I'm a bit confused by some of the current living arrangements....
Who lives with Eileen?
Is Sean still living with Billy?
Does Claud live with Ken?

Oh ok I thought the dry rot was in the salon originally, I must have tuned out when Gary was talking, I do that a lot tbf.

ellenanora5 · 22/01/2019 10:06

I think Gails father died sometime ago, he was gay and I think Gail didn't accept that at first but then she did.

Oh ye maybe Amy was wearing lipgloss.

Steve was really mean to go on like that, now the whole school will know.

thenightsky · 22/01/2019 10:24

Aud has a lot of bad luck with that Grasmere Drive house. I've lost count of the boiler issues she's had. Now this.

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2019 10:33

Steve was pathetic last night. Surely any normal person would put their daughter first in that position, and you'd make yourself put the anger to one side for later.

What a pity that they didn't show Amy dealing with this quietly (perhaps with Liz), rather than letting it become all about Steve and Tracy. I hated Steve's response.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 22/01/2019 10:40

I’ve just checked out the dry rot situation! Gary told Audrey in the salon that she had dry rot but he did not state where, so I assumed he meant the Salon, at least dry rot is not following Audrey around.

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2019 10:47

I think he'd been at her house fixing a radiator.

How sad is my life that I remember this! Grin

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 22/01/2019 10:49

Yes Audrey has had nothing but problems with that house, a few years back it had rising damp and she had to move in with Maria, Alma Sedgwick died in the spare room, Fred Elliott died in the hallway and Lewis died in the master bedroom! ‘‘Tis cursed I tell ya.

Clawdy · 22/01/2019 10:52

The scriptwriting for Steve's outburst was dreadful, but the scenes also showed what a poor actor he is. He should stick to silly comedy scenes.

qazxc · 22/01/2019 11:38

I still marvel at the fact that they can just sell houses and business in a couple of hours without solicitors, surveys, talking to banks about loans, examining the books, or even properly agreeing on a price.
I agree with everyone that the Audrey poverty story is ridiculous as the money was from an inheritance she didn't expect. She shouldn't be any worse off than she was before Archie died.
On the plus side David did mention the fact that there is no more room at the Platts (before being totally ignored by Gail).

Deadringer · 22/01/2019 11:52

Thanks bettyboo that makes sense, I guess I just assumed it was the salon too. Audrey also has boiler trouble any time someone needs a place to stay, grassmere drive sounds like a money pit, her moving to Victoria court apartments is a great idea. The cheek of Gary complaining about sleeping arrangements, wtf is he doing in David's house anyway! David should sling him out!

woodhill · 22/01/2019 12:19

Noticed Gail didn't give up her bed. Yes dry rot story is stupid

Did Nick steal the whole 80k

PremierNaps · 22/01/2019 12:28

Yeah he stole all of it.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/01/2019 13:14

The entire Audrey storyline is just embarrassingly bad. How can these writers be happy to put their names to this crap?

Audrey owned grasmere drive with Alf Roberts, successful businessman and her a successful business woman. There is no way they wouldn’t have had life insurance on Alf to cover the mortgage when he died. if they even had any mortgage left when he died. Audrey is in her 70’s and still working full time, also entitled to state pension, and I’m almost certain she will have no mortgage. There is no way she doesn’t have savings. But let’s say she doesn’t and really can’t afford to repair dry rot, she can sell the house, yes it will sell even with dry rot, not for as much as market rate if it didn’t have dry rot but it’s what a 3/4 bed detached house in the suburbs? Audrey could buy herself a one/two bed flat in Victoria Court with what she would get from the house and still have some left over.

And yes, why haven’t Gary and Sarah offered to move into Audrey’s while Gary repairs the dry rot? Makes complete sense.

Also think it’s about time the street behind the terrace was renovated. Gary and Seb could get loads of work from it and then Gary and Sarah could move into one of the houses. They could get a mortgage. Both working full time and paying no rent at David’s so able to save. That’s if Gary stops trying to singlehandely create the next generation with his testicles.

Steve’s acting was appalling. He was brilliant with the baby loss story with Michelle but aside from that he should just stick to comedy stuff.

I thought Amy was really good in the clinic when she said “I’m 14!” After the nurse asked if she was sure she wanted to terminate. Was it just me that thought the nurse seemed really reluctant to allow Amy a termination? I could easily see lots of teens walking out of that appointment and thinking they couldn’t go back to take the pills as the nurse was really offputting.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/01/2019 13:19

Also, where is Gemma’s flatfaced brother? Is he gone already? What was the point of him?

SymphonyofShadows · 22/01/2019 13:35

I don’t think Gary will get the work, because Audrey has mentioned getting other quotes too many times. Not sure what story that might lead to but the other quotes have been hammered home (sorry) in the usual subtle way

ILoveMaxiBondi · 22/01/2019 13:41

Agree with you there. They really don’t do subtlety at all do they? Grin

ajandjjmum · 22/01/2019 14:12

Probably Pat Phelan will be reincarnated to provide the most competitive quote.

SymphonyofShadows · 22/01/2019 16:37

Does Gary have the builder’s yard now? That has a cosy office that him and Sara could move into Grin, it makes as much sense as lilos!

MabelStark · 22/01/2019 16:55

God it really is dire at the moment isn't it! I love watching the soaps at Christmas - but I'd decided to quit watching in the new year. I'm still clinging on in there but I think it's habit. 🙈

Clionba · 22/01/2019 17:06

Gary owns a builders yard, Sarah is working. Bethany is working too. They couldn't afford to rent a little place in Salford? I know the BBC are there, but Notting Hill it ain't.
Aud and her money - none of it makes sense, as pp have said. That's a really nice house in a pleasant suburb. She must be well off.

thenightsky · 22/01/2019 17:32

Was it not mentioned that Aud's house was uninhabitable due to it being likely to collapse at any moment. Something about a big hole appearing? And maybe next door too?

*Disclaimer - I was only half-watching/listening.

TelephoneThing · 22/01/2019 18:16

Mabel Stark I quit and it's been surprisingly easy!

I've watched continuously since I was a kid (40+ years Shock ). I was busy before Christmas and got a few episodes behind - would normally watch them all on catch up but I when I read the summaries they sounded rubbish, so I didn't bother. Decided to drop it for a while and just read on here to see if it was worth watching again. So far, nothing has tempted me.

Too many ludicrous plots. 'Issue' storylines, rushed through and straight on to the next big drama (at which point the earlier issues are forgotten and never mentioned again). Too many characters and very few of them who are either interesting or likeable. Frequent inconsistencies, with both plots and characters. It's a mess Sad.

eddiemairswife · 22/01/2019 19:02

Does Gary own the builders' yard, or does it still belong to Jason? Didn't Eileen keep the books at one time?

Clionba · 22/01/2019 19:21

I'm confused now about the ownership of the builders yard. I did think it belonged to Gary.
