Whenever Kat goes on a drunken rant the stuff about being dirty is what she says about herself - Over the years Alfie must have heard it a million times, in the heat of an argument it’s not surprising that he would repeat it back to her.
I’m quite surprised at how many people see Alfie as complete change of character, the nasty Alfie has always been there, just not so on show!

southeastdweller · 26/12/2018 08:57

I liked that we saw again how much Harry's abuse has affected Kat's self-esteem, after all many years. I think it's very realistic. I didn't like it when she said Alfie took advantage of Hayley and said he's like Harry. I can understand why she did, but as Alfie said, Hayley's an adult. Alfie's not a paedophile.

I found it believable Alfie said Kat was soiled and dirty. He'd been found out and was pissed off. She pushed him into saying it.

Hubanmao · 26/12/2018 08:58

Yes, Kat has always gone on about being dirty and has actually taunted Alfie with that in the past, telling him she’ll always shag around and that he should leave her because she’s no good. So none of this is really a massive surprise or change of character. I think he’s finally snapped after years of Kat screwing around under his nose including banging the Russian upstairs while her kid was getting scalded downstairs.

He had a ONS (admittedly with Hayley who really is the definition of dirty) and suddenly he’s the spawn of the devil. Tbf he didn’t know til the other day that she’d even gone through with the pregnancy. And although he said he didn’t take precautions, being infertile must have made him think it was pretty safe, no?

I’m on team Alfie here. Oh and he built a loft conversion complete with spiral staircase in a couple of days so pretty handy too.

MrsCar · 26/12/2018 09:21

Brilliant episode, really fantastic actors.

dogsdinnerlady · 26/12/2018 09:30

The Slaters' house must be magic. In it you can cook and host a Christmas dinner for 20 people, put on a tart-themed karaoke for the diners, install a loft conversion and working fireplace in a few days and still have time for everyone to push off down the pub before it even gets dark.
Where do all those characters who have been cast out into the (metaphorical) snow at Christmas end up? They usually have no money on them, no spare clothes and nowhere to go.

youarenotkiddingme · 26/12/2018 09:34

O also liked Stacey standing up for Alfie saying it's one mistake. Would have been totally 2-faced the other way (remember Arthur?!) if she hadn't. But EE usually doesn't worry about things like that!

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2018 09:40

The new staircase was completed in a few days almost!

Hubanmao · 26/12/2018 09:42

Stacey did stand up for Alfie in the end but she was pretty hypocritical to begin with, having a go at him when she treated Bradley and Martin so badly

shineyshell · 26/12/2018 09:44

I'm still reeling from it all tbh!
Do we think Alfie's dead? His kids are going be distraughtSad
How are the Slaters going to sort this out?

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2018 09:48

Uncle Harry has so much to answer for. ( rotting in hell I hope)
That flashback at the start was very uncomfortable.
I know it's only a soap.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2018 09:49

I think Proper Kat and Alfie finished when they drove off in the snow in a ford cortina years ago. I think they brung them back and the scriptwriters don't really get them, so every Kat storyline is based on her abuse, and Alfie, who used to be a cheeky chappy has become a con man, stealing off his friends, who has forgotten most of his family (Spencer? Or all those Moon cousins who died/disappeared?) and now has real flashes of nastiness and occasional racism. His comments to Kat about his pure baby girl were really awful, I'm glad he fell down the stairs after that. I think they used Shane Ritchie's voice for Uncle Harry in the dream. Great acting from Kat and Alfie but a shame to finish their story that way if you think about how they got together years ago that was a happy ending.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2018 09:53

Agree Max and Stace will eventually end up together. Martian has gone way down in my opinion for staying friends with the blokes who raped Ruby.

cariadcat · 26/12/2018 09:58

I'm Team Kat, never liked Alfie even before all this stuff with Hayley. Hope he doesn't get back up!

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2018 09:58

I'm not sure about Max n Stacey : I know Martin hasn't been wonderful lately , but his a better person than Max is.
The actress that plays Stacey looked pregnant to me last night ( as mentioned on here too) so I guess they will have to write her out soon if she is.
Will she take her children with her?

cariadcat · 26/12/2018 09:59

I don't see how Stacey could ever get together with Max properly. I mean Bradley basically died for her & loved the bones of her, then she settles down with his dad? Plain wrong.

cariadcat · 26/12/2018 10:02

Stacey did stand up for Alfie in the end but she was pretty hypocritical to begin with, having a go at him when she treated Bradley and Martin so badly

!!! This

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2018 10:05

I only saw the last 10 minutes (so I saw the Duff-Duff )
I was catching up on Christmas Eves episode .

Why id they only show half of Stu's face ? Left side in complete shadow? Is he going to be horribly injured and we only see the full effect of Mick's pasting when he finally pegs it in the armchair

Need to get DH away from the TV now so I can watch EE properly

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2018 10:08

What was the whole dancing around in fetish wear half way through about? I don't get how that was for the karaoke contest as no one was singing?

PatricksRum · 26/12/2018 10:12

Can anyone help me with this?
Constant confusion for me, so when Alfie moon first arrived he was pretending to be someone else. So was Spencer and nana his actual family or the person he was pretending to be's family?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2018 10:16

I don't think Bradley treated Stacey that well when they were together. I think Stacey was referencing her own last Christmas when she was standing up for Alfie and saying people make mistakes, as Kat has numerous times. But this was probably prompted by Alfie making her feel bad earlier to save his own skin. Stacey, like Jay and Dot, does talk more sense than most. I hated Kats rant at Jean, I hate anyone being mean to Jean.

nancy75 · 26/12/2018 10:20

Spencer & nana were his actual family. He pretended to Peggy he was someone who had got the job of manager of the Vic

The80sweregreat · 26/12/2018 10:22

No, Alfie turned up penniless and took over the Vic - Peggy had asked the brewery for a new manager and Alfie kind of took on the job despite not having any experience at all! ( only on EE eh?) he was such a big hit with the punters they had a petition to keep him on once it was discovered he was a fraud, and Peg agreed.
nana, spencer and co turned up later once he was learning to run the pub etc. He was great, happy, cheekie chappie, good with people and a friend to Kat at first. how things change eh? even I liked him back then! He was Kat's ' man in the moon' - now his the man in a coma probably!!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/12/2018 10:31

It's his own fault, the logs he smacked his head on were only there because he insisted on building a bloody fireplace.

southeastdweller · 26/12/2018 10:33

Like I said last night, Alfie is a classic loser. How anyone can torch their own home for the insurance not knowing for sure if their family was in there or not is beyond me. He’s been dodgy from way before that, though.

PatricksRum · 26/12/2018 10:37

Thanks for clearing that up 😆
I was constantly wondering if he was pretending to be their long lost cousin or something.
