A new adventure awaits us in the New World. It's going to be savage!

Yes Claire really does look annoyed most of the time! I get she was a massive deal in 60s Boston, but she gets to shag Jamie. I think he's worth it Wink Not that I am obsessed....

I totally forgot Lord John Grey. I have a huge sift spot for David Berry so I was very happy.

Lessstressedhemum · 25/03/2020 11:00

Claire is a pain in the backside. She burns my biscuits even more than Brianna. I don't know what Jamie sees in her unless he really loves obstreperous, arrogant, bossy, bad tempered women!

You'd think that getting to have his boundless devotion and shagging him whenever she feels like it would but a smile on her face, but no. He even puts up with her fuss over Frank and his ring, even though that marriage was a sham. I'd be a lot grumpier if I were Jamie, tbh.

Yes she is! But a lot gentler in the C20th. The scenes at Culloden and Lallybroch when she visited in 1960s fair broke my heart.

I have a question for you lessstressed (seeing as you are an expert!) - In season 1 at Leoch did Jamie ever explain why he was kissing Leoghaire in the alcove and saw Claire watching and carried on? I always wondered whether there was some subtext there that I had missed given that he said he had already fallen in love with her before that. Did I miss something?

Lessstressedhemum · 25/03/2020 14:19

Myth, it's been a while since I read the first book but as far as I can remember, it was just hormones.
Laoghaire plays a much smaller role in the earlier books than in the show

I quite liked the fiery exchange between Claire and Jamie, it reminded me of Season 1 a bit. I always assume Jamie loves her because she's very much his equal and the sex is obviously great. I did watch the episode with dd2 on my lap and quite a few interruptions.

Jocasta's story was well done and brought us back to realise that Jamie and Claire weren't the only ones to lose so much.

One review I read said that both Jamie and Claire have great character development but a lot of other characters don't. I find Roger and Bree a bit inconsistent as characters, tbh, though Roger is trying to find his place.

Mytholmroyd · 25/03/2020 15:57

it was just hormones Ah okay - thanks! Seemed a bit out of character is all.

it reminded me of Season 1 a bit. yes a bit but it actually made me laugh when they were pushing and shoving and then jumping back - all a bit odd. I was hoping for something a bit more like a Jamie version of turtle soup ...

Just disappointed that it could have been so much sexier and longer Grin

Shosha1 · 29/03/2020 11:48

Not about the show, but has anybody been following the cast on Instagram? Richard Rankin has been very funny.

Dreading 507. Have read the books and know what's coming.

BonnesVacances · 29/03/2020 16:47

I love Richard Rankin. I'd choose a day with him over Sam Heughan any day.

Tonight's/tomorrow's episode is a tearjerker apparently. Do we think this is going to be goodbye to Murtagh seeing as he isn't actually supposed to still be alive anyway?

BonnesVacances · 29/03/2020 16:49

Oh @Shosha1 I've just read your post properly. Not Murtagh then, if it's something that happens in the book. I've not read them so I've no idea what's coming.

shartsi · 30/03/2020 01:28

Too many spoilers all around, apparently 507 is the best episode since season one. I can't wait to watch it.

Lessstressedhemum · 30/03/2020 09:59

507is heartbreaking.

Watching tonight with tissues handy Sad sounds like it's a tear jerker

Lessstressedhemum · 30/03/2020 10:44

It is. It starts off on a high but it all turns to dust soon enough. It's really, really well done. And there is a dripping wet, shirtless Jamie to feast your eyes upon.

I am self isolating and normally I send my kids off to school and settle in for a Monday Outlander fest. Unfortunately I have a grouchy husband as well as the kids under my feet. Grrr! Will watch later. This Corona virus is a pain in my arse.

shartsi · 30/03/2020 12:40

It is heartbreaking, probably the best episode since season 3. There was some convincing birthday sex , barn sex was so bad. I hope the remaining episodes are this good. Jamie is one sexy 50 year old.

Lessstressedhemum · 30/03/2020 13:10

If only I knew any 50 year olds who aren't my brother who look like that. And my brother only looks like that because he works out like mad every day and is very careful with his diet.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 30/03/2020 17:44

That was heartbreaking. Murtagh, Roger and the penicillin. Good to see Graham MacTavish as Buck MacKenzie, though. I liked Jamie telling Tryon what for after the battle too.

I think some of the criticisms of this Season are because the American Revolution was lots of skirmishes rather than one big battle, like Culloden. It's never going to live up to Season 1 & 2.

JADS · 30/03/2020 17:56

That was good. Tear jerker, but good.

Outlander does battles really well, it always has. It suits both Jamie and Claire to be honest. They both seemed weirdly relaxed compared to the posh society wedding last week.

Ok leave aside that Sam Heughen is supposed to be 50, woah. Wet dripping Jamie and a bit of birthday sex - what more do you need. Claire's creepy Marilyn Monroe bit was actually quite funny.

The symbolism of the red coat was absolutely brilliant. I thought Jamie looked a bit BJR in it, all wickedly handsome.

I love Murtagh and was sad to see him go, but thought it was a really fantastic scene. Really pulled on the heart strings.

Finally, Roger, my poor innocent idiot child. He did try, bless him. I haven't read the books, so I had to spoil myself to see what happens to him.

Can't wait for the next episode. Which won't be for 2 weeks apparantly.

cushioncovers · 30/03/2020 20:39

Just watched this episode. Was that actually Roger? 😢or is it going to turn out to be someone else who stole his clothes?

shartsi · 30/03/2020 20:49

According to the books. Yes it is Roger. He is badly injured and his voice is damaged permanently (not lost) we never hear his beautiful singing again.

cushioncovers · 30/03/2020 20:59
Sad
BonnesVacances · 30/03/2020 21:00

I know it's not in the spirit of it and it was supposed to be horrific, but I thought Jamie looked hot AF in the red coat. Blush Did they surround him with little men, because he looked huge in this episode? I've not noticed it as much before.

Florabella · 30/03/2020 21:53

That was the best episode in ages! I felt stressed the whole way though, and it was heartbreaking. Really felt more like the Outlander of old. Hoping the rest of the series can live up to this!

JADS · 30/03/2020 23:02

@BonnesVacances I thought Jamie looked absolutely stunning in that red coat too. Despite it being utterly traumatic for him.

I listened to an interesting pod cast about George Washington yesterday. He was originally a British commander who got overlooked and ended up fighting on the other side. So Jamie is in good company Wink

Lessstressedhemum · 31/03/2020 00:03

The red coat was mind boggling. How does someone look so hot yet so traumatised at the same time. It was utterly attractive but totally repellent. I've actually made myself feel a bit sick because I found him so attractive in the coat. Under normal circumstances, I can't stand red coats because of what they represented to my ancestors and what they did to vast swathes of my country.

At least Jamie was able to tell Tryon where to get off after the battle. That was a highlight. But not as big a highlight as a soaking wet Jamie with his shirt off (swoon)

Poor Roger, his life is changed forever now.
