Anyone going to be watching the new Doctor Who now it is a woman?
Love Jodie as an actress. Never been fussed on the doctor before!!

I've been watching it with the DD, they are loving it and we had a conversation about partition afterwards so all good. It's actually really interesting watching the historic ones with the kids and a damnsight better than the curse of the black spot.

WhirlwindHugs · 11/11/2018 23:19

People whinging about it being too woke are very irritating. The supporting cast in today's episode were great and yaz is also an excellent actor. Not sure why she's getting so much dislike...

I am finding that maybe the plots are a little too simple for me as an adult. I don't need it to be crazily complicated I appreciate the fact that it's easier for kids to understand, but the 'demons' in today's episode... Its lazy writing to have them there and then not actually have to do anything to either get rid of, defend or help them. Rosa parks episode was much better in this regard.

I also think three companions is two many. The boys part could have easily been played by just one of them this week.

Hopefully they will get this kind of issue sorted in the next season.

If the greatest assassins in the universe discovered someone had obliterated their homeworld, wouldn't their next mission be to eradicate whoever did it, rather than suddenly becoming pacifistic memorialists?

She is a terrible actor. Completely wooden.

DoctorTwo · 12/11/2018 05:18

The only thing missing from last night's episode was the gran asking for 'the blandest thing on the menu'.

SoupDragon · 12/11/2018 07:19

She is a terrible actor. Completely wooden.

And yet you seem to like Graham... he is the worst of the lot!

SleepingStandingUp · 12/11/2018 12:37

It's all feeling a little Aaesop Fables meets Timeless
Random story set in the past with a time line that has to be protected / is still massively messed with, a moral at the end to be nicer / better.

I'd have had them do something small to alter the time line, have Yaz disappear. As per most time travel shows we'd ignore the whole unravelling of time but maybe the other two would ask who Yaz was. Then she'd realise that he had to die and would have to reorder time.

Aka spider episode. Yes to inhumane death eating rather other and starving. But also there were spiders in the houses, are we meant to believe that they all got to the hotel in time to be locked away? And the one in the flat next door surrounded by garlic, did they leave him there to die too? What about the one in Grandads House??

SleepingStandingUp · 12/11/2018 12:38

The writing just seems lazy.

And then they all lived happily ever after and all the awkward stuff got forgotten

Jodie Whittaker just isn't right. No authority, no strength, too out of breath all the time.
Too female maybe?
I agree the assistants got in the way last night. They could have parked them all except Yaz on another planet.

SoupDragon · 12/11/2018 12:59

Too female maybe?

No, just too weak.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/11/2018 14:26

I do feel they've gone very "female" in her character. She's the polar opposite of the emotionally stunted Peter Capaldi with her whole let's all be a tardis famalam, I'm waiting for her to suggest an Instagram account!!
There were touches of her stronger side last night, I just think thry need some real peril, some actual threat to life (alien only eats Inorganic material, aliens only there to be nice, Rosa Parks dude couldn't kill, spiders COULD kill but only off screen and no threat to anyone we love. They needed to half mummy Graham and then have them hack him out)

SoupDragon · 12/11/2018 15:18

Or fully mummify Graham and not hack him out. I'm not sure we'd notice the difference.

RustyBear · 12/11/2018 16:40

Too much like Father’s Day.

The thing about three companions is interesting - originally, when the series was running for most of the year, having three companions meant that one of them, or the Doctor, could have a holiday from the otherwise relentless filming. Later, in the Fifth doctor’s time, there were three companions again - Adric, Tegan & Nyssa, and apparently some writers found it difficult to fit all of them into their stories - there just wasn’t room for four characters. Possibly this was one reason why Adric met a sticky end in Earthshock. Chris Chibnall gave his reason for having three companions as wanting to give every member of the audience someone to identify with, though apparently this doesn’t include older women.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 12/11/2018 17:11

There are plenty of strong quirky women who could have done this so much better. I was excited about a female doctor but am disappointed with this one.

Piggywaspushed · 12/11/2018 17:28

Right, my main issue with alst night's epsisode was Yaz' s gran. Partition was 1947. She looked - what 20 - in those scenes? So , she'd be 90 ish.

No way.

It's a bit like when writers write in grandparents who 'fought in the war' , becuase maybe their own GPs did, forgetting that they themselves are now getting on. There is no way Yaz's grandmother loked that age, or could conceivably be that age! Great grandma, yes.

LassWiADelicateAir · 12/11/2018 17:39

And yet you seem to like Graham... he is the worst of the lot!

Not "like" He is the least worst of the 3 and Yaz is the most but all 3 of them could be left out.

phlebasconsidered · 12/11/2018 19:43

I just find Jodie irritating in the same way I found Matt Smith annoying. I like my Doctors grumpy. Ecclestone and Capaldi all the way for me. She's just too bouncy. A bit like my spaniel.

I also think i'm just mourning the fact that it's not Olivia Coleman doing it.

2rebecca · 12/11/2018 19:57

Agree I prefer a slightly grumpy more alien seeming doctor. I find the assistants tiresome. The fewer the better. Mary Tamm as the first Romana is my favourite assistant. No love interest no girlie screaming no detailed back story.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/11/2018 21:03

Too much like Father’s Day

Whose?

RustyBear · 12/11/2018 21:46

Father’s Day was an episode with Rose and the Ninth Doctor, where Rose persuaded the Doctor to take her back to the day her father died so she could be there for him. But she ended up saving his life, with dire consequences for the timeline, and to put it right he had to die.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/11/2018 01:19

I don't know why she can't leave one or two of them at home sometimes. They don't all have to be there all the time!

IsSheWeird · 13/11/2018 04:10

Oh Jesus, I didn't mind the first one, but this new series is the biggest pile of wank I have ever seen. It saddens me, I can't generally stand Steven moffat, but his first series was a masterpiece compared to this gubbins

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 13/11/2018 10:10

Loving Jodie but she is surrounded by too many companions. I like all the companions but there's too many of them to let Jodie shine.

nuttynutjob · 13/11/2018 20:35

I find that there are so many loose ends at this series and it's more of character development. Maybe questions will be answered next season. Imagine if the Stenza or Krasko have got something to do with the war in Skaro.

I miss Murray Gold, complex storylines, Doctor speeches but the show needs to change.

I have been following Blindwave Doctor Who reaction in YouTube for more than a year now. There's something magical in seeing someone turn into a Whovian.

  • they will be reacting to a Good Man Goes to War next week.
