Lots of rumours of who is going to be on but none confirmed as far as I know.

OP posts:
Guienne · 17/08/2018 10:39

I think when they're relying on a vlogger they really are scraping the barrel. So far the only one of these that I'd recognise if I passed them in the street would be Danny.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 10:43

I listened to Chris Evans this morning and Ashley said her being asked to do it was last minute so potentially she got talked into it by the talent recruiter woman Stefania or the rumours they were struggling to recruit were true after all or someone dropped out.
I liked her on I'm a celeb so will give her a chance to razzle dazzle me! Grin cos clearly my all-important vote will be the difference between Shock Boot and Finalist, oh yes

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 10:44

Try telling that to Lulu, sass! Grin

MrsJayy · 17/08/2018 10:47

I think getti g the youtube fella is trying to be relavant(sp) apparently he has 8million subscribers however i don't think his following will watch the actual programme and just watchhis bits on youtube.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 10:59

Colin and Kristina, Lesley Joseph and Anton etc
(just being facetious, it is usually height related, adding in:
chemistry in rehearsals eg Robin and Lisa
celeb preferences in contracts eg Anton and Widdy
potential for showmances/PR eg Gio and Laura (am sure he was originally with Anastacia)
whose turn it is for a duffer/ringer eg Aliona and Johnny/Oti and Danny
geography eg iirc Pasha and Carol
occasional humour or odd couple pairings eg if they put Dianne with Graeme for Ashes references,
production avoiding scandal eg putting happily marrieds together, placing Kristina with Daniel post Ben

SassitudeandSparkle · 17/08/2018 11:06

Shock I thought that was the person we dare not mention, because Brenda's, erm, 'comments' about her are part of the reason (allegedly) that celebs are less keen on doing SCD than they were Shock Grin

There have been occasions when I've liked a contestant that I previously knew nothing about so I don't expect to know a lot about everyone taking part, but I do expect to have heard of them if they are billed as celebs. Probably understandable that in a long-running series that they have to scrape the barrel some years, just by the law of averages never mind fears of looking bad on tv.

Loving the airer down the stairs Grin Glitterball

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 11:32

Ah [whispers] Lulu... I do not blame Brenda in any way for that: Right from the off she did not have the grace to act pleasantly surprised by the pairing (she wanted Pasha), in the first It takes two she made a faux pas about it all being about her (many a truth...) and then dancing solo when eliminated. My God, he did well to keep it in for 5 years (I don't think he first said anything until 2016 and she had already slagged off production for the height mismatch, made out Brendan's training wasn't all that and claimed she should have gone further because of her previous success on the comic relief version).
and I don't even like Brendan that much (''I want THIS one'' wrt Helen, ''This girl'' bingo, being exasperated with Sunetra because she could not go all-out in training etc) I wanted him to have an obvious duffer/plus size contestant before he left Strictly...just to see whether he could teach a routine to someone not tall/lithe and to come up with creative choreo. But they never did - his duffers/middlers (Victoria/Kirsty/Michelle/Charlotte) were not obvious except for Jo being an older contestant but still thin/lithe/glam. Maybe it was part of his contract Wink

Lulu. I made no bones about it. We didn’t gel, we didn’t get on. I didn’t think she was a particularly nice person. I don’t think she thought I was a particularly nice person. So it’s just — [intake of breath from audience] — call it like you see it, you lot. Call it like you see it. I think it’s important to gel and get stuck in and apply yourself to the show. It wasn’t for her and, therefore, it didn’t work for us. But hey, like I said, not everyone’s going to like everybody (2016)

SassitudeandSparkle · 17/08/2018 11:35

No, her dancing on her own when she was eliminated was awful! She just walked away from him!

I haven't seen him live, but I believe he's been quite expressing his opinion on her there for a while now Grin How he coped with Victoria Pendleton I don't know.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/08/2018 11:54

I think Victoria P, although a) truly crap and b) psychologically wobbly, got a pass from Brenda on the grounds that she was prepared to work extremely hard (to very little effect) and sign up to his belief that he was a god amongst men. Ditto Charlotte (although she wasn’t flaky).

Claire King otoh, who was actually talented and hardworking to the limit of her physical ability, was never popular with Brendan because she didn’t think he was God’s gift, and her disability meant she couldn’t work the hours that he thought she should.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 12:09

Ooh I forgot about Claire.
She does back up Lulu re claiming that Brenda was intolerant and impatient.
And this...
"Me and Brendan got off to a bad start from day one when he said he wanted to be partnered with Emma Bunton or Carol Smillie.
"I've always felt like second-best and it's meant that I've never had any confidence....He's had a very negative attitude.

That might explain not giving him potentially more vulnerable contestants.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/08/2018 12:16

Ah yes I’d forgotten Claire’s real crime: not being Emma Bloody Bunton.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 12:18

I know 5/9 so far sass but the ones I don't know (Vick, Stacey, Ranj, Joe) seem nice enough. I don't mind not knowing them as there are those in the past I ended up loving (Rindy, Chelsee, Judy, Daisy)
It will amuse me if after recruiting Faye, Ashley and Vick, in true Monkseal Year Of The Woman stylee, 57 YEAR OLD ringahroo D-J-J leaves them all standing.

SoupDragon · 17/08/2018 12:19

I already plan on voting for DJJ as I love him so much!

MrsJayy · 17/08/2018 12:24

Brenda reminds me of the snooty male dancerin strictly ballroom if i stick my arse out far enough judges can kiss it seems to be Brendas attitude.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 12:24

Evil I wish I had a Like button.

soup Dragon yes, he seems to have a big following. I genuinely had no idea. Good for him. He looks very dapper in his suits, I must say.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/08/2018 12:27

I’d love to see DJJ win it too. According to Wikipedia his children rejoice in the names of Danae and Dante Langlais-John-Jules, which are…interesting choices. There was a weird run-in with the cops a few years ago though, that might get dragged up by the tabloids if (when) he gets though to the later rounds. Can’t remember the details.

SoupDragon · 17/08/2018 12:28

A lot of people will remember him as Cat and then Death in Paradise. I also remember him from Storymakers on CBeebies. He always seems so happy in photos too.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 12:37

Lalalalalalalalalalala [fingers in ears] Trying to forget Storymakers Grin
(even now DH sometimes emits Storymakers in a huge whisper at me)

LaurieMarlow · 17/08/2018 12:38

So excited about DJJ. im already rooting for him.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 17/08/2018 12:39

I remember him from MI High as well.

I remember watching Storymakers with my little brother. He was scared of the Blue Cow.

ellenanora5 · 17/08/2018 12:51

Is Stacey Dooley the lady who was in NHS programme recently.

I'd completely forgotten about Lulu and Brendan.

I always thought he should have won with Sophie Ellis Baxter, I thought she was very good, wonder will her mother ever do it.

I might have missed it but is Eamonn Holmes doing it, (crosses fingers he isn't)

CaveMum · 17/08/2018 12:59

Evil I think you’re right about DJJ and the police. From memory I think he had a mental health breakdown and was arrrsted after threatening behaviour in public.

MrsJayy · 17/08/2018 12:59

No Eamon isn't doing it yes Stacy dooley was on the Nhs programme, she did investigative documentaries for bbc3 they were really interesting.

MozzieMagnet · 17/08/2018 13:00

Not that I know of and Janet Ellis didn't do the Blue Peter children in need last year. Mark Curry won. Maybe there's space for him and you have two older male ringers. I'M 57! SO AM I! That would be awesome.

CaveMum · 17/08/2018 13:03

Apologies, I must have misremembered regarding the mental health breakdown, there’s no mention of it in this article: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7689681.stm
