Hi all

Here is the next thread for those who are watching The Handmaid's Tale Season 2 on Channel 4. Please don't put any spoilers on this - the other thread (for those in other countries who are watching ahead of the UK) is:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3239228-Handmaids-Tale-Season-2-SPOILERS-VIEWING-AHEAD-OF-UK-SREENING

Is there a way I can watch it live on my tablet/phone? I simply can’t wait a whole hour to watch on catch up.

You can watch it live on the All4 app.

Place marking.

@GripNeeded That’s what’s worrying me. Whilst she’s been through some dreadful things this season I was always ‘comforted’ (totally the wrong word but you know what I mean) by the fact that whilst she was pregnant they couldn’t kill her. Now that’s gone I’m scared for her, especially as Serena has been clear about wanting her gone straight away, so she isn’t even protected by the need for her to breastfeed.

Roussette · 05/08/2018 13:05

I think Gilead is so desperate for more fertile women, she won't be killed. They had to bring back women from the colonies after all

Hygge · 05/08/2018 13:24

I don't think anybody was nearby to respond to those shots and come in the car we saw.

She had time to go inside afterwards and birth a baby.

That seemed to take quite a time after she shot the gun. If someone was nearby, heard the shot, and decided to investigate, they would have been there a lot earlier. If they heard the shot and contacted the authorities and waited for them to come to investigate that would have been longer.

But I think that the Waterford's have spoken to Nick and so know he was captured, and they've gone back for a second look now they know June and Nick didn't run away (or not together at least).

Nick may have had to tell his captors he was there with June as well, so it could be them coming back.

But either way, I think she's going back to the Waterford's house with Holly now, at least for a brief time until Serena can get rid of her.

People keep posting in thread 4, there's about 30 post spaces left in it if lots of us post . Or similar on it, we can close it or it will get complicated when the show starts and people are answering comments on this thread on thread 4

Crinkle77 · 05/08/2018 13:34

My colleague was watching on show box so has seen it all. We do talk about the episodes that I have seen but she bloody slipped up about who it was that was in the car. Could have bloody killed her. Don't think it will spoil my enjoyment though. Excited!!!!!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/08/2018 13:44

I closed the thread Blush bit anal of me but Thread 4 kept leapfrogging thread 5 in my Threads I'm on and it was annoying me BlushGrin

theredjellybean · 05/08/2018 13:53

Crinkle77 · 05/08/2018 14:01

Everyone be careful. There is a thread entitled 'handmaids tale - that's it.' Don't click on it. I spotted it but did not read it. Think it is click bait thread.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 05/08/2018 14:06

Thanks Crinkle.

If any bastard starts threads with spoilers in the title I'm going to report their arses off.

Crinkle77 · 05/08/2018 14:16

I might keep off the telly addicts threads for a bit. Will just find this thread via 'i'm on'.

TangelasVine · 05/08/2018 14:21

I feel really nervous for tonight's episode. Serena will be furious at missing the birth and her ceremony. And she's terrifying when furious.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/08/2018 15:45

I can’t wait for tonight’s episode.

Blessedness Ben the fruit.

Or, without the dubious assistance of autocorrect, blessed be the fruit.

legolimb · 05/08/2018 15:58

I'll be watching it tomorrow on catch up.

I like to be able to rewind if I miss a bit due to the whispering and darkness..

I think it's Nick in the car. She can not go back to the Waterford house. No way.

thanksamillion · 05/08/2018 15:59

If Serena wasn't involved in the birth I wonder if that would affect how she bonds with Holly (taking the pessimistic view that June doesn't escape). Is that the purpose of the birth ritual?

EmpressOfSpartacus · 05/08/2018 16:28

Thinking back to how it worked with Rachel & her handmaid, this is the Bible extract:
And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; that she may bear upon my knees, and I also may obtain children by her.

So since Serena wasn't involved in the birth, I wonder if that even has implications for whether Holly will be seen as her child?

TangelasVine · 05/08/2018 16:41

I can't see Gilead letting a handmaid keep a child. Offred belongs to Fred in their ideology. I'd expect lots of remarks from the other wives about Serena missing the birth though and can imagine Serena blaming any of the usual baby stuff like crying on it.
There's also not many other parents around apart from the lady that always complains about baby Angela. Can't see Fred being that interested in doing any actual parenting. Serena has also idealised it in her head with huge nursery full of toys that a newborn won't be interested in. If she gets to keep baby Holly she's going to struggle.
Wonder if she'll send June away then get her back when she can't cope? Mirror of the scene with baby Angela in hospital?

VenusStarr · 05/08/2018 16:42

Checking in for later. Really hoping for some positivity today.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 05/08/2018 16:45

I can't see Gilead letting a handmaid keep a child.

No, nor can I. And of course they're assuming she's Fred's daughter.

legolimb · 05/08/2018 16:51

So since Serena wasn't involved in the birth, I wonder if that even has implications for whether Holly will be seen as her child?

She wasn't involved in the conception of the baby either. Not in the Gilead ceremony sense at least. She was just stood in Nick's room whilst he did the deed.

TangelasVine · 05/08/2018 16:51

I'm still hopeful June can get away somehow. The Waterfords have got to explain the lack of birth ceremony if they find and keep Holly. I wonder if June could strike a deal where they let her run but they keep the baby. It would be horrible but probably June's only chance to escape is without any of her children.

EmpressOfSpartacus · 05/08/2018 17:01

I think Serena hates June so much now that she'd be just as happy to see her in Canada as anywhere else if it meant she was gone permanently.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/08/2018 17:23

I don't think it need be a problem explaining the lack of a birth ceremony. Some births are very fast. And they could easily go, 'do you know what that naughty girl did? She had the baby by herself in her room, so selfish and irresponsible! We didn't find out till the next morning.'
Of course, it's still not ideal given they would still be failing to exemplify the perfect Gilead family, but it's not half as bad as what really happened.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/08/2018 17:24

If June got to Canada she has a lot of beans to spill. Can't see Serena letting her go UNLESS Serena herself wanted to bring down the regime.
