I sobbed at the meeting with Hannah. ‘Did you look for me?’ Broke me. My son is two and I so see how June wanted to give a life times wisdom in ten minutes - enjoy your life, love your parents. How desperate she was to know they were kind to her and having to ask the Martha to love her. That’s what I would want - I thought about it a lot when the news of trump separating families broke. How awful to not even know if someone is being kind to your child.
That scene was some of the best tv I’ve ever seen.
I disagree that the rape was gratuitous. Horrific, yes, but I think it’s like what a P.O. said about Gilead seeming normal now until we saw the juxtaposition with Canada. Rape has become normal in gilead and is ‘just’ the ceremony, but it isnt ‘just’ a ceremony. Rape is rape, and I think that was a brutal reminder of what all these women are experiencing every month. Just because it’s expected and routine and normal now doesn’t mean it should be glossed over, sanitised and tastefully camera-panned-away from if that makes sense.
I also felt for Eden. She’s just a child. I really do think nick could be kind to her, explain even that she is very young and they have a whole lifetime to grow together etc. Not lead her on but not leave her out in the cold.
