Hi all

Fred was being sent paper work in the hospital, so Serena can probably lie about how well he's doing, and he'll just happen to be out of it whenever he has visitors.

legolimb · 01/07/2018 22:48

Hurrah. Thing are looking up.

I need to watch this again as missed a few chunks.

PP are right that Emily looked dreadful.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 01/07/2018 22:51

They did this exact storyline in Scandal actually. President unconscious, First Lady forging his signature. They got away with it because he came to at the 11th hour

Can anyone tell me what Dolores said in the bus, I rewound it twice and it was too quiet to make out

ArtfulPuss · 01/07/2018 22:52

Serena herself has been so conditioned to subservience that it took June's prompting for her to take control in Fred's absence, which as June obviously intended led to the elimination of Cushing and his enquiries. Great role reversals: Serena wearing the trousers again (metaphorically if not literally!), acting with authority and making decisions in place of her husband, and June protecting Nick, rather than the other way round.

Loved the pen click too - such a clever allusion to last week's ep. Looking forward to seeing what chain of events will be detonated this time...

WitchSharkadder · 01/07/2018 22:57

MrStark, Serena got rid of Cushing by forging documents which accused him of treason. After his arrest, she wrote new orders to reduce the security measures that he’d put in place and asked June to edit them. She wants things back to ‘normal’ eg, no more bodies hanging in front of houses or Marthas shot in the street.

It’s odd isn’t it how repulsed Serena was by the horrors of Gilead when it was on her doorstep and she was under suspicion. No thought for all those people who are suffering and have been for so long under the regime.

I thought odette was listed as one of the names killed in the bomb?

Yes that confused me too. They definitely said Odette (something) when reading out the names of the handmaids who died in the bomb.

ArtfulPuss · 01/07/2018 22:58

Maybe Serena will take charge of Fred's 'medication' to ensure that he remains incapacitated for as long as it suits her?!

Crinkle77 · 01/07/2018 23:01

I wondered if she might bump him off. Pillow to the face or something after a sudden turn for the worse before he or anyone else uncovers what she done.

WhyDoesItAlways · 01/07/2018 23:02

I listed to the list of handmaid's killed in the bomb again and Odette wasn't mentioned.

TheSausageEmperor · 01/07/2018 23:05

Whose version of Venus was that at the end?

EvilTwins · 01/07/2018 23:14

Excellent episode!

JustLikeBefore · 01/07/2018 23:21

fantastic episode.
loved the pen click st the end. it's the first time I've wanted to watch the next one straight away.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 01/07/2018 23:28

That makes sense, Witch, I had to pause it twice for interruptions and got confused

scrappydappydoo · 01/07/2018 23:32

Just catching up - I felt ill at the beginning when the words they were using for funeral were so similar to what we say on remembrance Day :( Loved the ending though. I seem to go through a rollercoaster of emotions each episode.

I am intrigued by their religion - they always seem to quote the Old Testament - there is very little New Testament and no mention of Jesus. I know it's meant to be reflective of the hardcore Christian right in the US and I am actually grateful that it doesn't resemble my faith too much but I would love to explore that further.

iheartmichellemallon · 01/07/2018 23:42

Great episode, but no way can Serena be trusted.

AmberCurtain · 01/07/2018 23:48

amazing episode. I like how June and Serena have found a common ground and are working together, I just hope she doesn't stab June in the back the minute the baby is born.

xsquared · 02/07/2018 00:18

@Whydoesitalways Odette Johnson was mentioned at around 1:37-1:39 of

xsquared · 02/07/2018 00:20

@TheSausageEmperor Shocking Blue, I reckon. Definitely not Bananarama!

Iggi999 · 02/07/2018 00:29

Moira’s baby was so big when she gave him up wasn’t he, I would have thought they would do it more quickly so the baby wasn’t attached to his birth mother. (Clearly not the saddest thing on tonight’s show, but it still bothered me!)

sherazade · 02/07/2018 00:30

Serena is fascinating . As awful as she is , we want her to be good .

Slanetylor · 02/07/2018 00:34

In Ireland’s mother and baby homes mothers had to mind their babies for a year before they were forcibly adopted. I’ve no personal attachment but have read the mothers stories. I find this element to the handmaids tail very upsetting. But again based in reality.

CoolCarrie · 02/07/2018 00:55

I notice that there are no crosses anywhere, no one wearing a cross or crucifix, nothing religious looking at all.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 02/07/2018 01:57

The only crosses I’ve seen were the ones the handmaids walked past tonight at the cemetery before they did the burial ceremony for the deceased handmaids.

AmberCurtain · 02/07/2018 02:02

There were crosses over the graves in the background tonight and also in the scene in the colonies when they were burying the dead. There was another bit on the colonies when the woman who Emily poisoned was hung uo on a cross. I wonder if it's because most of the religious aspect comes from the old testiments and the whole reference to crosses is because of jesus which is in the new testiment?

AmberCurtain · 02/07/2018 02:04

Please excuse my spelling - I have really bad dyslexia and autocorrect can't understand me tonight!
