Finally! Season 2 starts on July 4th on More4.

Been waiting for this, we haven't been able to find a download of it anywhere.

OP posts:

Loved that Randall and Beth had "honest" reactions - relief, then "I'm gonna kill him!" "Only if I don't kill him first!" As this programme can tend toward the saccharine, perfect reactions at times.

Very hard to let deja go. I have SO much respect for people that foster, I can't begin to imagine how hard it must be to open your heart and home to strangers, and then to deal with handing children back to neglectful, even abusive parents. So hard!

NotPennysBoat · 08/09/2018 14:13

Great episode but pleeaase bring back some happiness! I can't take any more heartbreak!
It's not in my planner for next week, is it on a break??

VanGoghsDog · 08/09/2018 14:28

I think Daisha going back to her mum was happy and Randall realised that as he'd been stopped from meeting his father. Not every family is perfect on paper, but if a child can have the love of their natal parent and be safe, surely that is best. Plus, she has some extra adults on her side now too.

Graphista · 08/09/2018 17:05

It's on my planner - more4 2300 Wednesday

HannahnotAgnes · 08/09/2018 20:29

That's exactly how I saw it Vangogh. Made me sad for him though that no matter how much his parents loved him, he always had that yearning & would have chosen his biological dad every time.

Collywobbles1984 · 10/09/2018 14:04

2300?! Have they put it back ANOTHER hour?!

Graphista · 10/09/2018 14:10

Yep! Bloody annoying! Doing a great disservice to a fantastic show.

Collywobbles1984 · 10/09/2018 15:52

They really are! Makes me wonder how long we'll have to wait for season 3, or if we'll get it at all!

Unihorn · 10/09/2018 15:56

That's why so many people illegally stream shows!

Graphista · 10/09/2018 17:45

It's certainly a big factor for many! The tv stations and programme producers bitch about illegal streaming, competition from legal streaming and other media yet can't seem to get their act together in providing what viewers want.

Ultimately viewing figures relate to how many people advertisers are reaching. There's peak viewing times which I would guess, certainly in uk if not other countries with similar regular working hours etc, is 7pm to 10pm. Programmes scheduled outside those hours aren't considered as valuable to advertisers. To consider this programme as less valuable to advertisers is INSANE. It's getting great ratings in America and has won many awards.

A quick google shows some newspaper articles saying that it's not found an audience in the uk. But is that really surprising when it first aired at 1035pm for season 1 on ch4, they've now moved it to all4 and are farting around with times! Why?!

You know what? I think I'm gonna email ch4

LightastheBreeze · 10/09/2018 20:56

The same happened with The Americans, another excellent series, it ended up at 1 am

Unihorn · 10/09/2018 21:12

I watched the first series on Netflix then sort of forgot about it until it reappeared on Channel 4. I think it could have done really well if it had been marketed better.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/09/2018 21:34

I didn’t cry

Am I a heartless bitch

Graphista · 10/09/2018 22:17

Email sent no reply yet.

Yes I was loving the Americans then it ended up in places I couldn't watch it!

Graphista · 11/09/2018 19:52

Got a reply. Basically glad you like it but it's not getting enough viewers in the 9pm slot so we bumped it and there it's staying!

Graphista · 12/09/2018 23:19

Ohhh this will be interesting. The pearsons in therapy! How long till the veneers slip?

Irony on the casting directors part? Having the addiction therapist played by the daughter of a world famous alcoholic!

Get where Beth's coming from I'd be livid too.

VanGoghsDog · 13/09/2018 20:52

Kevin is such a sap. Spoilt, needs to grow the fuck up.

Graphista · 13/09/2018 21:00

He does! But then why is that? Why's he like that?

Randall was always "old head on young shoulders" type, but Kate's more mature too.

VanGoghsDog · 13/09/2018 21:15

Kevin had the things that youth values more - looks, sportsing, the best girl etc. Those things came naturally to him. When things stopped coming naturally he didn't know what to do.

The dad bigged him up and allowed him to disrespect his mother.

Randall had what is valued by adults - brains, reliability. Mum over compensated due to him being adopted.

Kate had it easy because she's a girl, but her relationship with the mum suffered due to her self-image. Imagine having that beautiful woman as your mother!

Jack held them all together. Kate was close to him but she had Kevin to mother so she turned to that. Randall had the mother. Kevin really didn't have anyone.

It was nice to hear from Miguel though.

Graphista · 13/09/2018 21:55

"Imagine having that beautiful woman as your mother!" I was thinking that when they were discussing 'the black bikini'. The mother can't help being gorgeous, but I do think she could help what kind of mother she was.

But then that's kind of her reacting to the way Jack was. Nobody sets out to be the "bad guy" parent, but some do set out to be the "good guy" one..

Jack has been presented as "the greatest dad ever" but I think now with Kevin in therapy we'll start seeing more of the negative side of him (I hope). Milo ventimiglia isn't afraid to play unsympathetic characters either so I'm really hoping they'll explore that side more.

As a child of an alcoholic myself SO much is ringing true for me. Jack always being the 'fun' parent and making mum look the bad guy by manipulating and backing her into a corner - eg announcing the holiday without checking with her first, being the one taking Kate for ice cream every day...

He just says yes to everything fun the kids want to do. Total Disney dad. Then Rebecca has to be the one reining in the fun, thinking of the practicalities and doing what's actually good for the kids.

On the rare occasions Rebecca does anything fun or suggests - Jack sabotages her.

Randall is repeating the dynamic to a degree except he's the non-fun one and Beth gets to be the fun one.

Toby tries to live up to the pedestal Kate's put Jack on with the grand romantic gestures. Grand romantic gestures are easy, being there for someone through the daily grind is much harder.

VanGoghsDog · 13/09/2018 22:07

Luckily for me my mother is pig ugly Grin

Graphista · 13/09/2018 22:18

Haha! Mine isn't but neither is she stunning but she doesn't look her age which my sister and I have inherited (actually bro too). She's in her 70's but looks 50's and has experienced reverse age ID issues - when she's requested oap discounts she has to show ID cos they don't believe her!

I'm the eldest but we (the 'kids') are all now 40's and get taken for being in our 30's. Bro got mistaken for a graduate fast track 'knob' Grin by someone when he got his new post after last promotion - he's police. But no he's a ranker.

In that respect I wonder if my dd better off having boys! She's stunning (not just a mum boast - been regularly approached by model scouts since she was tiny. She's never wanted to do it though).

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/09/2018 07:38

Can’t dis jack

Wonder if we find out what happens this week

Kevin has a lot of issues

Graphista · 18/09/2018 10:05

Hmm I think that's going to be the 'twist' though... Until now jacks been presented as a sort of 'perfect' father and husband, which of course nobody is, but this often happens in families when someone dies. They become almost sainted!

Miguel might be the key here - he was jacks best friend but we've already seen that he also saw his flaws!

And I've yet to come across an alcoholic that was never unpleasant, badly behaved or downright abusive when drunk. That's barely been explored yet, and the writer has said it's based on his own life experience - his sister also struggles with her weight like Kate and she's even a consultant for that element of the show.

I agree can't remember if it was Kevin or the therapist that said it - but they're a family of addicts.

Jack and his father both alcoholics, Kate food, Rebecca and Randall arguably perfectionism, Kevin alcohol and painkillers.

Not dismissing what Randall said about Kevin's timing either. My experience is that most addicts are at least a little narcissicistic and crises tend to happen when they're not getting the attention they crave.

Can see this in Jack too. Yea he's the 'good guy' parent but because that means he gets to play the star, the one everyone loves!

Unihorn · 18/09/2018 10:37

His death is episode 14 I think, but is touched upon slightly in episode 13.
