Is coming back very soon! I'm guessing in the next 2-3 weeks.

Who's excited?! I've read all the books and can't wait for the new series.

OP posts:
ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2018 19:52

Yeah I'm confused too. I thought AT didn't want to play old?

Surely it would make more sense to stop now?

SadieHH · 24/07/2018 19:56

It's heartbreaking hearing you say Caroline is irritating. She's really not meant to be like that, and she's trying to rebuild herself after the loss of her child. This production sucks arse. Angry

beguilingeyes · 26/07/2018 08:15

The thought of a Debbie Horsfield 'fan fic' version is giving me nightmares. The series is so much better when she uses stuff straight from the books.

Westwing1 · 26/07/2018 11:55

Hi SadieHH, I feel bad about saying Caroline is irritating now. I haven't read the books and only know the characters from the current tv series. I hurt my back (much better today) and was very grumpy after last episode, I just wanted some reassuring tv with characters I liked and I really didn't enjoy it at all. I prefer the episodes with Cornish scenery and a mining based storyline, price of tin and some local politicking and I'm happy.

beguilingeyes · 26/07/2018 14:11

I can't recommend the books enough. There's so much more depth and character development. I'm not sure if Caroline is badly written or it's Gabriella Wildes monotone acting. Judy Geeson was a wonderful Caroline in the original series.

SadieHH · 26/07/2018 15:18

A combination of both I think. And you're right about Judy Geeson. She played Caroline with the right mix of attitude and vulnerability.

Westwing1 don't worry! She is irritating in this version. You might have guessed she's my favourite character (in the books) so I'm super cross at this portrayal.

ElspethFlashman · 26/07/2018 15:53

I'm just sad we won't get to meet Lady Harriet.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/07/2018 21:01

I can't even remember who Lady Harriet is? Enlighten me, ElspethFlashman

ElspethFlashman · 26/07/2018 21:16

Oh it's a spoiler so can't! She enters around the 7th book, or maybe 8th.

And is SASSY.

Clionba · 26/07/2018 21:17

SPOILER Second wife of George Warleggan.

dueiohuio · 26/07/2018 21:40

I think we will meet Harriet. I think Horsfield is going to take elements from the last books/make up her own story to finish the series.

ElspethFlashman · 27/07/2018 17:30

But it would surely take more than one series more, and I don't think AT is up for it.

Don't really blame him, he's getting rave reviews on the West End.

glamorousgrandmother · 29/07/2018 21:53

Actually feeling sorry for George.

hfuiweo · 29/07/2018 22:04

That was so bloody sad.

Dulra · 29/07/2018 22:16

Good episode I think it's getting better all the actors seem to be getting into their characters. The books make Elizabeth's death for more gruesome and ross decribes the stench of decay when he goes to see her body. Don't remember dr ennis finding the poison in the book but I may have forgotten.
I did feel sorry for george in this episode but he brought it all on himself

Ansumpasty · 29/07/2018 22:23

I was sobbing. Feel like I need moral support after that Wine

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 29/07/2018 22:40

Poor Elizabeth - I still remember seeing it the first time around Sad.

GretchenFranklin · 29/07/2018 23:33

Oh bloody hell, poor Elizabeth what a numpty. I don't understand why she didn't tell george she was due in March or something. Sad

The book was horrific I think she turned black with necrosomething illness, nobody could work it out. Awful.

Loved the opening scene with them all back in the past. Surely a prequel would be better for next series? My only memory of the latter books is Jeremy droning on about steam engines.

InsulatedNotIsolated · 30/07/2018 01:16

George Warlegen is an awful human being BUT Elizabeth brought a lot on herself through greed. She married George for wealth and status to keep her in the way she was used to even though she was still in love with Ross. Then her mad tryst with Ross resulted in her love child, Valentine. She then poisoned herself as she’s tried to bring on her labour early to avoid any further suspicion about Valentine.

None of that was George’s fault. You’d have to be as thick as two planks not to question Valentines paternity or Ross’s fleeting visits etc. He was right all along, it’s just that he’s such a despicable human being, no one cares.

SadieHH · 30/07/2018 03:09

She should have confided in Dwight for a start. I wouldn't trust Behenna as far as I could throw him but she knew Dwight enough to trust him, then he just might have been able to do something.

However, that's all by the by. She didn't have the courage to marry Ross and, more importantly, he couldn't provide her with the lifestyle she wanted. Instead she married the two people she thought could provide her with the best life, regardless of the fact that marrying his cousin and then his arch enemy would utterly wind Ross up.

But she kept him dangling and reeled him in every so often to play with him a little rather than close him off completely and let him get on with his life. By the time she actually decided she loved George rather than his money it was too late and she was suffering the consequences of her own games.

Nope I couldn't stand Elizabeth! Grin I didn't like her in this series or the books. She was played more sympathetically in the final few eps of the original series but that's about it.

Clionba · 30/07/2018 08:56

That was a great series finale, very well done and great performances. I loved seeing Francis, Verity and Aunt Agatha, it was like meeting old friends again! Very touching scene at the end with Ross and Demelza.

diddl · 30/07/2018 09:06

"But she kept him dangling and reeled him in every so often"

Yes-but he didn't have to be such a fool as to go along with it!

runningkeenster · 30/07/2018 09:16

Don't remember dr ennis finding the poison in the book but I may have forgotten

I don't think he did in The Angry Tide but it was alluded to in one of the later books, he'd found the bottle and kept it for years wondering what she'd done to herself.

Ansumpasty · 30/07/2018 09:24

I was frustrated why she didn’t just tell George that the baby was due in January, but then i realised that, because of the fainting and impeding treatment, she had to tell him.

SadieHH · 30/07/2018 09:38

Yes, in the Twisted Sword Dwight has a conversation with Valentine about his mother's death and Dwight thinks back to the little bottle he has, that he's certain brought about her death. Although he cannot analyse the contents, he has a fair idea what it was.
