Is coming back very soon! I'm guessing in the next 2-3 weeks.

Who's excited?! I've read all the books and can't wait for the new series.

OP posts:
Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/07/2018 19:18

I wondered if it's when she loses the baby?

Clionba · 16/07/2018 19:18

Doesn't Morwenna lose the baby?
I'm really enjoying the storylines, especially now Elizabeth is pregnant! Great scene where Ross meets Valentine!

beguilingeyes · 16/07/2018 19:40

I thought Ross hanging around Trenwith and meeting Valentine was a bit ridiculous. 'Come and meet your illegitimate son.'

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/07/2018 18:27

I can't quite fathom how Ross continues to have any respect for Elizabeth for publicly supporting George's catalogue of conniving wrongdoings. It doesn't really make any sense?

beguilingeyes · 17/07/2018 19:11

A lot of Horsfield's writing doesn't make sense. George is suspicious about Valentine so hey, let's invite Ross in for drinks.

thunder029 · 19/07/2018 21:27

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 After the 'night', Ross and Elizabeth have very little to do with each other in the books. The series is deviating a bit

SPOILER

Yes, Morwenna loses the baby. A couple of months later she finds the courage to run away from her awful MIL, and leaves John behind. She goes to Drake's house, and plans to go to Trenwith after talking to him . Drake begs her not to go, and asks her to marry him instead. At first she says she can't because she's contaminated and can't bear to have sex with a man after Whitworth, or even be touched. Drake says it doesn't matter, he will never force her to do anything. She agrees, and Drake is always very careful with her, though unfortunately the story barely focuses on the two characters after book 7.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/07/2018 06:41

thunder029 thanks for letting me know. I have read the novels but an awfully long time ago (the details are all a blur). There's just something very 'off' about Ross and Elizabeth's continued 'bonhomie' - on screen - on so many levels.

Ansumpasty · 23/07/2018 15:35

I loved that Geoffrey was the one to say how much Valentine looked like Ross. His laugh juxtaposed against George’s face was brilliant Grin

ElspethFlashman · 23/07/2018 15:40

Yes I absolutely hate Ross and Elizabeth being all yuk yuk yuk har har. When she can't even look Damelza in the eye and George has really suffered because of his (totally correct) doubts.

It would make more sense for a lot of wariness and distance to be between R & E. Instead they have banter? WTF???

I actually felt a bit sad for both Valentine and George last night as obviously there was an affectionate relationship there. It's so tragic.

OnePotato2Potato · 23/07/2018 16:10

Enjoyed last night's episode... Monk Adderley was so sleazy though Envy yuk.

It moved very fast perhaps too fast. Ross and Demelza are so up and down and Ross too reckless... his pride and ego was too big to turn down the duel and now the man's dead. If they have to face the law because of it... well was it even worth it?!

OnePotato2Potato · 23/07/2018 16:18

Also as much as I dislike George and Elizabeth, I do feel for George. His son is not really his but his enemy's and he knows it! Elizabeth is stuck as she can't prove otherwise, I know what is coming up and it will be heartbreaking. All this because of Ross's recklessness!

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 23/07/2018 16:26

Did anyone notice George turning into Chandler Bing?! Could I BE more.... some of the language is far too modern. I will find it in my heart to forgive if Ross takes his shirt off again.

WomanLifeIsGoodish · 23/07/2018 16:50

I feel for George too. He’s also bang on the money about the snobbery in the monied world. No wonder he’s got such a large chip on his shoulder!

Not enough Sam in that episode.

SkaPunkPrincess · 23/07/2018 19:20

I absolutely hate the stupid way Caroline talks to Ennis through her fucking dog like she can't emotionally connect with her own husband. It's so twee and child like.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/07/2018 19:50

I know what is coming up and it will be heartbreaking. Agree. I can remember watching the equivalent to upcoming episode as clearly as anything, all those years ago. It's one of those scenes that has stayed with me. :-(

ElspethFlashman · 23/07/2018 19:55

Also the fact of the matter is, Ross is a shit husband.

It's wierd cos he's by far my least favourite character. I just think he's a dick.

Even when Demelaza was shattered and was dying to go to sleep, he was horny so he didn't give a shit. I bet if she'd said no he would have sulked.

beguilingeyes · 23/07/2018 19:57

Is she ever going to get out of fucking green?

Ansumpasty · 23/07/2018 21:15

I did, hahaha!

dogsdinnerlady · 23/07/2018 21:44

Dimelza has to wear green because she's a redhead except that she (the actress) isn't really. I myself am a proud titian-headed beauty and avoid green as it's such a cliche. Like her in the claret/rust colours though.

Westwing1 · 24/07/2018 12:19

Just watched Sunday's episode and really didn't enjoy it. Adderley was vile, Caroline is so irritating the way she communicates with her husband, Ross and Demelza constant 'I love you, I don't trust you, can we mend our marriage, I love you' on a loop is so dull. Have got bored with Morwena (heartless of me). I think I only like George and Elizabeth at this point (George has won me round oddly), I think they can be a lovely couple, and George's Uncle and Prudy. Agree with poster will D ever get out of green. Am I on my own with everything else?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/07/2018 12:29

When I watched/read Poldark as an impressionable teen, it was the 'bodice ripping' aspect of it - and Ross being a bit of a cad - that appealed. I do agree that his character (and relationship with Demelza) don't sit so well with me as a full fledged adult!

weuilfhwie · 24/07/2018 18:47

Ross and Demelza's relationship is abnormal from the off, and doesn't resemble a healthy relationship until after the time jump IMO. Before that, the Elizabeth and Hugh issues cause constant poblems.

SPOILER

I think Elizabeth's death is the turning point. That's when Ross finally lets her go, and Demelza stops seeing her as a threat.

greyday9 · 24/07/2018 19:38

Series 5 will be the last :(

www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/992395/Poldark-Season-5-spoilers-Ross-Poldark-Aidan-Turner-Debbie-Horsfield-BBC-video

Disappointing. I suppose the last couple of books are very sad, but I'd have liked to have seen them all adapted.

Clionba · 24/07/2018 19:46

I don't know how they're going to do a series 5 because it jumps ten years or so. We're now at the end of The Angry Tide. Then there's a gap in the narrative. Will they just age the characters?

greyday9 · 24/07/2018 19:51

I think they will 'fill in the gaps' and include the things we didn't see in the novels due to the jump

SPOILERS

  • the birth of Bella
  • the blossoming of Drake and Morwenna's relationship and the birth of Loveday
  • the birth of Dwight and Caroline's two daughters
  • Sam and Rosina's marriage

And probably add some things from the later novels, like what happens to George, Geoffrey Charles etc. My theory is they'll carry on with the current characters and take things from the novels for these, but they won't follow the stories of their children (Jeremy, Clowance, Valentine etc).
