How amazing is Mad Men

Just rewatched it on Netflix and loved it as much as the first time. It's just so bloody incredible I honestly feel a bit bereft. The last episode is so brilliant, no lame endings or feeling disappointed.

I genuinely think it's the best tv ever made. Not sure why I'm posting this as I realise I sound like a gushing mad woman.

I have such a crush on Pete Blush

GingerKitCat · 27/05/2018 21:46

@Sorrel ShockGrin

I always liked Cosgrove Wink

dingdongdigeridoo · 27/05/2018 22:06

Unfortunately, when there are threads about older shows there are often spoilers! Sorry.

I always thought the fat Betty storyline was because of JJ being pregnant. It was a good twist though. I always wondered whether Betty was miserable because she was starving herself. She rarely ate and smoked ALL the time.

I have never known someone to have a crush on Pete! I’d go for Roger. He’s funny, drinks martinis, and would probably be amazing in bed.

TheDowagerCuntess · 28/05/2018 03:53

Roger is hilarious - so sexist but you can't help but like him. Very suave, too.

Plus I think he genuinely cared about Joan - and would certainly never have done to her what her vile husband did.

SorrelForbes · 28/05/2018 07:48

Pete is my guilty secret! Roger is my second favourite though.

Madbengalmum · 29/05/2018 19:28

Mad men is in my top three series.

  1. Sopranos
  2. Mad men
  3. Breaking bad
IdaBlankenship · 29/05/2018 19:36

I loved Mad Men, so much that I can't rewatch for fear of not loving it so much second time around.
I adore the Tom & Lorenzo blog too, they get so much detail from the costumes.
The bit I loved most was a look that Pete & Peggy shared after he announced Trudies pregnancy, it told their whole history in one glance. Phenomenal acting.

endoftether82 · 29/05/2018 20:00

Ida, I think it's even better second time round.

Also raising a hand over here at having the hots for Roger.

Fizzywinegum · 29/05/2018 20:01

ida I love it even more every time I watch it!

Slightly perturbed by people having secret crushes on Pete Campbell - he is a brilliant character though and must have been a great part to play.

bringbacksideburns · 29/05/2018 20:43

I miss it.
I might rewatch!

And yes the scenes stay with you.
Betty shooting at the birds in her backyard.
Of course the Lawn mower bit - I think that was when I realised that the series was something else and then I got hooked. You have to persevere.
Megan putting on Tomorrow never knows on the record player and Don sitting back in his chair listening to it and then abruptly turning it off. ( Read into that so many things about what was happening to him)
Roger on LSD. I loved Roger!!

Apparently they were toying with Megan crossing paths with Charles Manson when she moved to the Hollywood Hills but decided against it.

Brilliant.

Gah, Mad Men! I love love love it! I've just returned to work after a year of mat leave and I watched it all from start to finish while I was snuggled on the sofa feeding DS. It's got into me like no other series has. The characters are so cleverly done, so real and so many layers and complexities. The cinematography, the sets, the costumes are so evocative. I could gush about it all day!

I'm off to read those blogs now.

MissTulipan · 29/05/2018 21:11

I totally loved Mad Men too...

There is nothing like it. I loved the characters, the history, the clothes, the set and the story lines.

I must watch it again too.

Thirtyrock39 · 29/05/2018 22:04

What are people's fave seasons with out giving away what happens?
I am not enjoying season 4 as much as season 3 which is definitely my favourite so far. Hoping season 5 is a cracker think I'm losing sympathy for don he just seems an arse in this season- although I loved The Suitcase episode. And not enough Peggy and Betty

CAAKE · 29/05/2018 23:07

Oh my goodness. Thank you for this thread recommending Halt and Catch Fire. ITS got LEE PACE in it! LEE. PACE. 😍

CAAKE · 29/05/2018 23:08

Sorry, and yes, I love Mad Men and agree the final episode is one of the best bits of TV ever.

MissTulipan · 29/05/2018 23:09

Halt and Catch Fire is also brilliant and the last few episodes really were wonderful.

SorrelForbes · 29/05/2018 23:14

On episode 8 of series 1 of Halt and Catch Fire. It's not in the Mad Men league but very watchable all the same.

fuckadoodledandy · 29/05/2018 23:15

@CAAKE... I know, he is so good in this. Fell slightly in love in the last series..his character development is stunning. Would watch it all over again but my husband already thinks I'm a weirdo for having watched it twice through!

fuckadoodledandy · 29/05/2018 23:16

@SorrelForbes it's a grower...I didn't get hooked until season 2...

CAAKE · 29/05/2018 23:17

@fuckadoodledandy have you seen the film The Fall? That's where my love of Lee began...

SorrelForbes · 29/05/2018 23:18

I'm definitely sticking with it. Cameron reminds me of the girl in Some Kind Of Wonderful.

fuckadoodledandy · 29/05/2018 23:19

@CAAKE no...but it sounds like I've got some weekend viewing coming up...thanks for the tip...I will track it down!

CAAKE · 29/05/2018 23:28

The Fall is quite bonkers overall, but it's beautifully made. It's one of my favourites, try it for sure.

wherewithal · 30/05/2018 10:41

Mad Men, The Sopranos (Best. Ending. Ever.) and Deadwood are pretty much my holy trinity. Was a fan of 6 Feet Under, though not a fan of the finale.

I would also highly recommend Better Call Saul, and though sadly it’s not on Netflix, The Americans, finishing its run tonight.

SorrelForbes · 31/05/2018 07:08

Oh yes, The Americans! Another wonderful show that finishes this week.
