My first thought was that the driver ledthe soldiers to them. Or they just found out about the econ family and pilot through the safe house, but not necessarily June. If they’d known June was in the plane, I don’t think they would have started shooting blind and risk killing her.

Gilead may only have been aware that the plane was going back and forth to Canada smuggling goods. It was unlucky for June that they decided to take action that evening.

I didn’t realise the econ family had disappeared, I thought they were just out at church?

And why did the pilot ask June about her clothes, isn’t it obvious she would have got changed/disguised in the months she’s been in hiding!? I feel so sad she didn’t get away.

I think that an econowife's husband is just called a man in the same way that the husband of a Wife is a Commander. Men in Gilead are people in their own right while women are defined by their husbands.

I think it’s Omar. June found a Quran and prayer mat, so they must be a muslim family pretending to fit in. Very dangerous indeed!

The husband told June that they’d be back around two. That’s why she was getting more stressed with the marbles when it was nearly five. It meant something had happened to them.

June knew the safe house was no longer safe. Then Omar and family went missing; I think he had been found out as a transporter and they were questioned but denied it all, hence why they didn't know June was in his house (it wasn't the plan after all).

After omar had recieved the text surely June would have asked more? I liked how she said not to wait though...

The role of her mum as a feminist seemed placed. June was such a bad woman because she worked editing other ppl's words and wanted to marry. Seemed a perfect comparison of her mum speaking her own words of truth and all foreseeing.

Did find it interesting how there must be propaganda about the handmaids like last season where they were told they loved their work to the visitors.

Yes if the final safe house that delivers you to the plane is comprised, it seems likely the plane will be compromised. I guess she didn't have many other options though. Except trying to get out on foot on her own, but I'm not sure where she was in relation to the border. Obviously Moira managed but I'm not sure what she did for food, water, shelter and navigation.

I definitely wouldn't have gone to Omars house though. Hugely high risk that you will be seen by neighbours, even just walking in. Maybe she could have asked Omar to drop her off in the woods with whatever food and drink he has.

Econowife can't be VERY fertile if she has only got the one child.
Re the econowives, I seem to remember from the book that they wore clothes striped in the colours of wives/Marthas/handmaids to indicate their fulfilling all three roles, hence the 'econo'.

To be fair, perhaps Omar isn’t very fertile. Most of the Commanders are sterile - so the general male population will be.

Found this episode so depressing - surely she is not just going back after all her efforts - I felt so bad for June!

I think I may have missed something- how did June find the plane in the middle of the forest and how did she know where and when to meet them ?
