Programmes that never get repeated

Every Easter I hope (in vain) that The Passion will be repeated on tv. It was in the late 1990's with Gina McKee and Paul Nichols and set in Devon, never even been released on dvdConfused. Does anyone else remember it? What other programmes have only been on once and you'd like to see again?

SFX magazine used to do a series called “Isn’t it time you gave XXX another chance?” in which they would defend unpopular works of science fiction. Their two page article on Crime Traveller read simply “NO!” in 200 point capital letters.

Also Spitting Image

llangennith · 03/04/2018 00:57

Keel Sharpe is being repeated at the moment.**

Keel · 03/04/2018 01:05

Is it? Brill. I'll have to look for it

tobee · 03/04/2018 01:44

Janet McTeer and Imelda Staunton as two friends who were feminist academics but who got involved with murders/mysteries and turned detective. They did two (book adaptations) and were quite quirky and unusual characters for tv at the time. I'd like to see them again and wish they'd made more. Anyone remember them?

Jam and Jerusalem

So underrated, but beautifully written and cast. We have the dvds which dd adores, but not the Christmas episode, which I cand find except on US dvd.

crumpet · 03/04/2018 01:58

French & Saunders ruined House of Elliot for me (actually I think it was repeated some time back). Always waiting for that sodding penny farthing to go by Grin

ateacupofgin · 03/04/2018 05:05

Jake's Pogress, another Alan Bleasdale with Juli Walters, Robert Lindsay & Amanda Mealing.

Holding On, I think this was written by Tony Marchant and starred Lesley Manville, David Morrissey, Phil Daniels.

Both on winter 1996, captivating and brilliant performances but a Skyplus fail means I missed the last 2 episodes of each...

Ofthread · 03/04/2018 06:43

There's a big reason why lots of stuff never gets repeated - aspect ratio. Older stuff made in 4:3 (square telly), I've noticed that they hardly ever broadcast it anymore.

Vitalogy · 03/04/2018 08:16

That's a good point Ofthread now and again I've seen this but very rarely.

Eggzandbacon · 03/04/2018 08:18

At least one episode of the Janet McTeer/Imelda show is on YouTube as I tried to watch it.

Vitalogy · 03/04/2018 08:35

That's good then Eggzandbacon I have a copy of Janet McTeer in Precious Bane that never gets repeated either, probably due to what Ofthread mentioned. I like her, I think she does a lot of theatre work. No TV work which is a shame.

Vitalogy · 03/04/2018 08:41

Ignore what I said Blush just looking on IMDB she's done loads, never seen anything though Confused

morningtoncrescent62 · 03/04/2018 09:18

I can’t remember if it was good enough to be repeated but I’m trying so hard to remember the title of a children’s ghost/time travel series from the late 70s ( ITV I think & poss on Sundays). The girl lived in an old house & could swap lives with another girl. I do remember a bit where they were together though, sitting on swings, and the girl in the past was a bit of a cow! I do remember it being quite dark & it stayed with me, even though I now can’t recall the name. Anyone put me out of my misery?!

I think this is 'Come Back Lucy'. I absolutely loved it, and every now and then I look on Amazon to see whether there's a DVD of it. There's an edition made in Germany, but it's slated in the reviews (apparently it's been edited and messed about with) so I keep waiting for a better one - don't want to ruin my wonderful memories of it.

I agree with pp about Fame. I have DVDs of seasons 1 and 2 and I'd love to see the rest again.

Another shout for 2.4 children, sunset beach and Cracker.

DGRossetti · 03/04/2018 15:50

Just saw Maureen Lipmans name, and remembered watching "Agony" in the 70s ...

(although I note it's now available on DVD).

For my money, there must be some never-seen-since gems hidden in the BBCs "Play for Today" vaults ... Flipside of Dominick Hyde, the one with Billy Connolly (revealing him to be a fine actor) ... the one about the cure for the common cold ... the one about the Yorkshire by-election ("Green and Peasant Land" ?)

tobee · 03/04/2018 16:22

@Eggzandbacon oh dear! Tried to watch it? What went wrong?

DGRossetti · 03/04/2018 16:39

Any Ian Richardson fans ?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_Schulz

was brilliant ...

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 16:42

Rhoda. I LOVED Rhoda. Never seen it since the early 80s

haverhill · 03/04/2018 16:45

A weird but compelling series called Brond mainly set in Scotland. It starred John Hannah and Stratford Johns. I vividly remember the Brond character sauntering across a bridge and casually pushing a child off the edge!

phlebasconsidered · 03/04/2018 20:03

The Beiderbeck tapes, Chocky, Children of the Stones, Dear John, Joking Apart, Dramarama, Play for Today, Clocking On and Our Friends in the North which was bloody wonderful.

Eggzandbacon · 03/04/2018 20:39

tobee I think the sound quality wasn’t good on my tablet!

elspinsdemariscal · 03/04/2018 20:51

Kate & Allie

OddBoots · 03/04/2018 21:11

It was a one off but pretty fabulous, 'AD/BC Rock Opera' - it was a nativity by Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry with a comedy cast.

It was for children on CBBC but funnier than a lot of comedy for adults 'Sorry, I've Got No Head' - also a great cast.
