I noticed they gave Connor the actor Bob Barrett's surname.
I think Jac is going, the actress occasionally seems to be dropping hints.

spiderlight · 29/08/2018 22:25

I dread Crohn's/colitis storylines - they never end well, and as a UC patient myself they depress me no end. Everyone else seems to have heart/lung transplants or need their heads sewing back on after falling out of a helicopter and still be sitting up in bed with their hair done by the end of the episode, but whenever they roll out an IBD patient you know it's going to be death or a stoma for them, at the very least.

I did feel sorry for Sacha - bits of it were inevitably highly implausible (and they really do need a lock on the door to the roof, FFS! Also why is there a 'Fire exit' sign on it? Who wants to be on the roof of a burning building?!) but the way he had to keep putting on his game face throughout the year rang true for me.

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 29/08/2018 23:04

I have just caught up after being away

I must confess my mind wanders and I think it will be the end for me if Jac leaves but can someone catch me up, when Sacha and Ric were arguing on the roof, when was that? I assumed it had shown a x hours previously and when Ric ran all those floors to the roof (as that's so much quicker than the lift!) it was then going to catch up so had almost given away the end but that didn't happen!!

SoupDragon · 29/08/2018 23:11

I didn’t even know they were killing off a main character.

I guess I do now 🙄

aaahhhBump · 30/08/2018 00:12

Just balled my way through that one on catch up.

The TPN bugged me though. When it was on our ward it was always in a red bag to protect it from light. Just seeing it brought back the smell. Envy not envy

MyOtherProfile · 30/08/2018 02:21

@ChoccyJules who is Bob Barrett?

MargaretDribble · 30/08/2018 07:01

For years my friend and I have texted each other during Holby and she chose to watch something else instead. That really is the beginning of the end.Sad
Maybe they should blow the building up in a terrorist attack, decide that the land could be better used for luxury flats and use At James' instead (is that the other hospital, never sure?)

MyOtherProfile · 30/08/2018 07:07

@MargaretDribble that really is the beginning of the end!

ChoccyJules · 30/08/2018 08:01

MyOtherProfile he plays Sacha

MyOtherProfile · 30/08/2018 08:19

D'oh yes!

DaffodilPower · 30/08/2018 08:48

I know what you mean @spiderlight, I have Crohn's and hate that they are always such negative stories... I've managed to avoid major surgery so far but my treatment path so far is leading me towards it I fear.

Watch this space though!

SleepingStandingUp · 30/08/2018 09:00

aaahhhBump our nurses used to compete to cut pretty holes in the Red bags to hang it through. I hate it when they get simple stuff wrong. It's like all these neonates in Emmerdale etc in single occupancy rooms with no nurses present. Yes Charitys baby born when mine was, I'm looking at you

spiderlight · 30/08/2018 09:46

Paddington - the argument on the roof was immediately after the surgery and Connor's death. Sacha then went and told Connor's mother and friend, said goodbye to people and went back to the roof, and Ric talked to Serena and then went looking for him to be a bit more supportive, saw him on the roof and ran back up.

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 30/08/2018 10:38

Ah thanks Spider I really should pay more attention Blush

PretendLife · 30/08/2018 11:46

I have family member with crohn's, I expect that is why I remembered Connor from before. I do wonder about this trial story and the curing of someone with motor neurone disease...and the MS story...Jac being 'cured'. I hope they are not giving false hope to people.

spiderlight · 30/08/2018 15:14

@DaffodilPower - hope you don't end up needing surgery. It's a crappy condition to have. I've got away without surgery so far, touch wood, but I'm never going near Holby - IBD patients there always come out either with a bag or in a bag!!

DaffodilPower · 30/08/2018 15:20

@spiderlight Grin very true - not an IBD centre to be proud of!

I hope you have a lifetime with your colon, too!

SleepingStandingUp · 31/08/2018 00:09

Not to be controversial but...

I liked Tuesdays episode.

It does depend on how they deal with it from here BUT...

I think wove the Connor Web well. Lots of scenes we'd seen but from a different angle.

Ric starting off trying to help then ballsing it up because Sacha isn't sucking it all up the he would I felt was accurate.

Serena being more perceptive and making Ric fix it.

Sacha saying goodbye to people but quietly, subtly.

The fact that Sacha wouldn't jump once Ric was there because he wouldn't do that to someone.

The number of times he cried alone because men his age don't talk about it.

The fact that the first step is someone - albeit Ric - being willing to listen. That's the whole basis of Samaritans, that listening helps.

I don't know the NHS' mental health crisis teams working practices so him going home I don't know. They couldn't section him. He could easily refuse someone to go with him. What else would they do?

My big BUT is what happens next. Another attempt? Ongoing issues? Some HH love? I think that'll be the decider for good or bad job.

spiderlight · 31/08/2018 10:03

I liked it as well. It wasn't perfect, but I realised I'd been crying quietly for most of it and that hasn't happened with Holby for years. I think Bob Barrett did a blooming good job, especially after watching the behind-the-scenes video on Twitter and realising he's absolutely terrified of heights.

PretendLife · 31/08/2018 11:11

They couldn't have him jumping off the roof really, would have sent a terrible message to anyone out there who relates to his story.

But as ever Holby ruin it with him being able to just walk out on the roof in the first place.....I find myself annoyed at these type details every week.

frazzled3ds · 04/09/2018 21:37

I hope this whole trial story line gets wound up soon..... nice to see a bit more of Dom this week, and HH too, though he seems to be getting caught in the middle between Gaskill and Roxanna.

If anyone is interested the autumn trailer is here: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06k7tfd

HalleLouja · 04/09/2018 22:33

Trailer thread to discuss all that stuff.

I managed to fall asleep and miss part of the episode. Whoops need to re-watch.

HalleLouja · 05/09/2018 08:23

Omg Gas-kill is a piece of work. HH don’t listen to him.

Optimist1 · 05/09/2018 09:15

My attention was wandering during that episode. To save me the trouble of watching it again could someone explain what Gas-kill is up to and what Roxanna's investigations have shown? TIA!

I have absolutely no idea.
