Absolutely agree with PP who says they can’t tell if Meena is supposed to be moany or if it’s how the actress acts. I have been wondering.

roadmantings · 20/09/2018 17:29

That episode was a shark-jumper. The ridiculous brain surgery scenes were an insult to the intelligence and the ending was laughable. Holby has officially disappeared up its own arse.

sanssherif · 20/09/2018 17:35

Did you see gaskill go out of theatre to talk to hh then open the doors to go back in with supposedly sterile hands?
And essies loving look to him as he stitched her up.

Optimist1 · 20/09/2018 20:29

Would it be possible for Essie to accompany Gas-Kill when he eventually departs from Holby? She's never been a favourite of mine, but has been getting more and more irritating. Speaking to HH like he was a toddler, as mentioned by Nymph, was the final straw for me - she has to go! [angy]

I used to really like Essie, but for ages now she's just irritated me.

Duvall is a pointless manwhore.

sanssherif · 20/09/2018 22:50

Bet he's great in bed though.
I like Nikki, she's clever and fab.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/09/2018 00:20

I wonder if he could be a bit selfish in bed tbh. Or do you think his ego would just not let him do a bad job??

I like him and Petreenko the other day, now that's the match up I wanna see then Memeena can walk in on them

EndOfDiscOne · 21/09/2018 13:38

I missed the bits when Essie was in it originally (stopped watching for a good while) - but gawd she's fucking annoyed me from whenever she re-popped up. Like some kind of hospital-wide rent-a-mother-figure that's obviously kind of aiming at being how Megan(?) in the original Casualty episodes was meant to be but just going well into the "annoying as fuck" category.

I don't think the flashback sequences worked - Roxanna was believable (although the usual issue I have with casting female flashbacks kicked in that they all tend to default to going for exactly the same hair colour as the character has in the present day and what woman keeps an identical hair colour for 30 years?!) but Hansen at the start just didn't work for me, and Gaskill... well the entire fucking character doesn't work for me anyway. Duvet was in danger of gathering an extra dimension to his character (as opposed to the usual one-dimensional drapes himself over the desk flirting routine) for all of 30 seconds before he defaulted to well-toned-desk-ornament territory and Meena just induces the urge to throw a brick at the telly.

I like Serena though (without Bernie attached), and Jac, and Roxanna when she actually manages to make it through an entire sentence of dialogue without random pauses in the middle of it all.

sanssherif · 21/09/2018 17:05

I thought the young Roxanna nailed the mannerisms of Roxanna the older doctor perfectly. The speech was excellent.
Petrenko is fabulous.

twickletoes · 21/09/2018 20:57

I was so happy when Essie got cancer I thought she was a gonna

NymphInYellow · 21/09/2018 21:10

I don't think she ever had treatment though, apart from a hysterectomy, which she bounced back from in record time.

Maybe she'll finally cotton on, confront Gas Kill and he'll kill her before topping himself (best case scenario) Smile

EndOfDiscOne · 21/09/2018 21:37

She had extensive treatment (Holby style). She appeared in one scene on the operating table while the surgeons simpered/battled egos/macho postured over her body, then she lay in a very nice private room while everyone in the entire hospital apparently had no work whatsoever to do apart from pop in and share their entire personal woes with her while she dispensed wisdom, then she popped back to work within about 4 weeks of returning to the show.

So by Holby standards a very long, drawn out recovery.

Can anyone explain to me what the bit where Henrik and Prof Gaskell (as students) were doing when they appeared in a room soaking- I didn’t follow what was happening

spiderlight · 23/09/2018 11:36

I think Henrik had attempted suicide and Gaskell had stopped him - he was saying that his mother had walked into a lake and that he was doing the same so that his unborn baby (presumably Frederik) wouldn't have the shadow of a parent's depression hanging over him like he had.

MapleSyrupIsTheAnswer · 23/09/2018 11:43

Thanks for explaining!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/09/2018 11:43

Yeah I think his Mum had tried it when pregnant with him? And he'd gone home and found out his ex was pregnant with Frederik so was going to kill himself so he wouldn't pass on his bad juju (the word he keeps using with Essie to explain their bad luck)

MyOtherProfile · 25/09/2018 20:57

Oh my goodness this is horrific.

Pinkgeorge · 25/09/2018 20:59
