It's the latest six-part Kay Mellor drama. It's about three women, Linda, Sue and Gail, as they - according to the official blurb - struggle with the changes and responsibilities that come with being a modern woman of a certain age. Phyllis Logan, Miranda Richardson and Zoë Wanamaker lead the cast.

Trailer here -

Anyone else going to be watching?

So random friends of a murder suspect can burst into the police station and the interview room eh?

keepondreaming · 17/01/2018 23:41

Ending with the cat was a bit shocking, didn't see that coming!

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2018 09:17

Could you use your own son to represent you in court at a work discrimination case? wouldnt that be a 'conflict of interest'? ( i dont know, but it doesnt sound right) Plus he is only doing it to get back at his biological dad i think - even if they do have a case against him.
The cat scene was horrible - she loved that cat.
It is very similar to the syndicate programme, i know its the same writer.
the scene with her mum in the care home touched a nerve as my dad has mixed dementia and is adamant he would ' never end up in one of those places' - i found that a bit sad really, very close to home for me. I am glad that somebody had a go at her son though.

Yes, toooldforthisshirt37, I thought exactly the same thing. After the first heavy hint was dropped I realised that they are 100% going to start a bridal magazine for the mature bride and ZW will be the cover star of the launch issue, remarrying the bloke she’s almost but not quite divorced from.

I expect that after some ups and downs, ZW and the soon to be ex will manage to prevent the decree absolute from being issued at the last minute, perhaps involving a car chase sequence and running through the streets of Leeds to the town hall etc.

The new magazine will be a roaring success. Wendy Craig will remortgage her house to invest in it. Anthony Head, the love rat, will come crawling back but by that time MR will have met a real man (plumber or similar, perhaps fixing things at launch party venue) and will send him packing.

PL’s husband will, of course, show up before the end. He and Paula Wilcox planned the whole thing. He hopes to get PL banged up then he and PW can skip off into the sunset together. But she will be saved by her loyal children who do amateur sleuthing on the boat.

Is that enough cliches? I will probably carry on watching it though, to see whether I am right.

ITV must love Kay Mellor. Looks like they even let her decide the casting.

The80sweregreat · 18/01/2018 13:14

I wonder if Sue will go out with the insurance man ( although he didnt have very good news for her friend) I was a bit confused there - they are not going to pay out because they think her husband killed himself? must have been a clause that he didnt read about! so what will she do about the mortgage and bills etc/
Paula wilcox was scary.
I agree that they will call the new magazine ' second time around' or something and her friend will feature in it and it will be hugely successful and AH will be frothing at the mouth and the new features editor will get the sack. Mind you, ZW 's ex doesnt seem that into her, so maybe not!

SylvesterTheCat · 18/01/2018 18:22

The cat scene was disturbing and unexpected. I don't think it was necessary tbh.

MsLumley · 19/01/2018 21:32

Just watched half of the second episode on catch up then gave up. What a load of clichéd, predictable, unfunny crap.

MissEliza · 20/01/2018 16:27

The scene with ZW and her mum on the bus was so touching and well acted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2018 18:02

It’s easy watching

Tho still think he’s alive

SylvesterTheCat · 21/01/2018 22:25

Grin blonds

RestingButchFace · 21/01/2018 23:30

I agree with a new magazine bit I think they cover will be Wendy Craig as her partner has just proposed.

The80sweregreat · 22/01/2018 10:37

resting, yes, probably! i bet the new mag will be a big hit.
still dont believe you can use your son to represent you in court.

cheesydoesit · 22/01/2018 17:38

God, it's awful. Don't even know why I am watching it. Just caught up with episode 3 and I cannot believe ZW's character just let her grandson go off with his mother who he didn't even seem to recognise. Surely contact would have been supervised. Not sure why I am expecting realism from Kay Mellor!

VQ1970 · 24/01/2018 21:09

This is really pissing me off tonight.

newhopewithanyluck · 24/01/2018 21:34

It is fairly grim isn’t it?

VQ1970 · 24/01/2018 21:42

Everything is just so far fetched and ridiculous. I know it's not real and there is some artistic licence allowed but this is taking it too far.

Middleoftheroad · 24/01/2018 23:29

I find the main character (the one whose DH is dead/missing) really irritating...

hmmmmm · 25/01/2018 09:20

So she did kill him?

I'm quite enjoying it even though I agree with pps.

thenightsky · 25/01/2018 10:23

Its as daft as Love, Lies and Records. Cliche piled upon cliche. I knew that lass would announce she was pregnant. The whole thing is so predictable.

Hhakuna · 25/01/2018 13:56

event the pregnancy thing seemed unrealistic she goes around telling everyone saying she might be, but then says she hasnt even done a test

The80sweregreat · 25/01/2018 14:14

sounds as if the lady with the husband on the cruise did kill him, as she wrote in her confession! Seems a bit harsh to me that they might not say anything - although the other woman was clearly unhinged. i dont know what i do in that situation myself - maybe she might fess up, but the thought of having some money to pay off the house etc might be too much of an incentive to keep them all quiet!
It is very manic, just problem after problem, although i did mutter ' bingo' when she started saying about the online magazine for older brides etc etc.

Lambside · 25/01/2018 17:36

Is there one more episode?

Lambside · 25/01/2018 17:36

Is there one more episode?

Lambside · 25/01/2018 17:49

Ooh double posting, strange.
Anyway found out its six episodes. Six episodes! How many more dramatic twists can we take?

TremendousWorkGodfrey · 25/01/2018 22:42

LOL! I’m enjoying it. Total nonsense but it’s not supposed to take itself too seriously is it. Can’t remember the last Kay Mellor thing I watched.
Cat scene was shocking. Agree about Phyllis Logan’s hair, very distressing Grin.
Not side why there are some many extremely close up camera shots - is it a heavy handed ‘we know they are older women and we’re not going to try and hide it’ thing?
Son not telling his mother about children was unbelievable. Did she NEVER go to his house, ever?!
Having said all that, I am enjoying it, as long as I don’t think too hard about it!
