Anyone watching this new series by Kay Mellor?

Not a bad opening episode. I wish I knew I'd needed tissues sobs Rebecca Flack (I hope I have her name correct) is playing a good baddie.

I quite enjoyed it too, definitely needed the tissues!

I think RGL also specifically relates to marriages conducted at short notice (usually you’d have to register intent to marry before hand would you?) due to the ill health of one party.

It was a bit odd that she had this affair and didn’t seem too bothered or guilt stricken (apart from not wanting to get in trouble at work) and then wanted to marry her boyfriend. Considering the fact the other woman is already pissed off with her and has this amo she was certainly not treading on egg shells around her!

Although one or two bits were rather implausible, I enjoyed it. Very good acting from the young dad.

I thought a lot of it was predictable and a bit ridiculous. The storyline with the young couple and baby went on and on and really had no drama! I might give it one more go

I really enjoyed it. I rolled my eyes, though, when Judy walked in on Kate in the strongroom - talk about contrived. Looking forward to seeing the Judy character develop.

"On the baby's birth certificate she should have entered the mother's name at the time of the birth, i.e. her maiden name"

I thought it could be any name she wanted to go by, provided she was not attempting fraud. Perfectly OK to start calling yourself by another surname at any time you want, isn't it?

I want to like these BBC dramas but they always end up a bit bonkers and strange, lie DR Foster running out of her surgery every couple of minutes and the Dr on Trust me, throwing her certificates in. The bin and so in.
I was sat with DP watching LLand R trying not to act like I'm on Gogglebix and commenting every two minutes as it gets boring. However as soon as Kate ( is that her name, I've forgot) got the image of her in the store room shagging as a text message , I was commenting that she now has the upper hand because she could go to work and threaten to go to the police as the scorned woman (Rebecca Font) has now sent indecent images and that is an offensive! She should try to double bluff her!

I disagree that Kate has the upper hand! She’s got more to lose than Judy if/when it all comes out. Is sending a video to someone of two people having sex really illegal?

I agree I don't think she does have the upper hand. I'm thinking what I may do in that situation and that is to act as if I'm not intimidated by it and show that I'd be quite happy to turn the tables on someone. ( even if i didn't feel so confident inside!). I'd be be saying things like she has vomited an offence under the communications act and although one of us may lose our job, one of us will end up with a criminal record!

However, this is only me overthinking a to programme!

Massive typo!
Nobody vommited. It was supposed to say 'committed'

What Judy has done is sent a sex tape without consent. Certainly Rick hasn't consented for Judy to share the video.

You are right @luckylavender she was in The Thick of It! My memory is shite, so I mixed up the two programmes.

I was looking forward to it because I thought it was the telly version of the Radio 4 comedy series set in a register office. I thought it was dire - packed full of cliches and with a virtual klaxon going off whenever an important plot point was approaching.

Remember that recent Tracey Ullmann sketch where all the TV characters were described as "she's a busy woman ... but she's at the top of her game"? That was the lead character here, I thought (except that she wasn't at the top of her game and that incident with the mother's name could get her into deep trouble). I wish it well but I won't be back.

I'm not generally a fan of Mellor's writing but this I enjoyed, having Ashley Jenson in it doesn't hurt, she's very likeable.

I'm a registrar and was glued to this, even if I did shout at the TV quite a lot! Most of the scenarios in last week's episode have happened in my register office (apart from the sex in the strong room I think - our local authority are too poor to afford CCTV Grin) but not all on the same day. A wedding by Registrar General's Licence can often be arranged in only a few hours, but it does need the well person to give notice of marriage, a doctor to write a letter confirming that the ill person is too ill to be married in a register office/church/other place licensed for marriage and is not expected to recover from their illness, and authorisation from the General Register Office. A home visit to the parties to a suspected sham marriage is very unlikely however! Looking forward to tomorrow's episode ...

This is just ridiculous. That guy saying "I'm a woman" when it's the first time he's worn a dress in public.

Then he makes a bottle for a new born baby without asking a single question about it.

Then the new born baby hasn't cried once and hasn't seemed to have been inside his own house yet. Wasn't he born two days before the wedding? And it's obviously the guy's first baby yet he's handling his son like he's his tenth.

It's hard to believe in anything on a screen when you want to scream.

It’s ridiculous rubbish isn’t it?

When that man said “I’m a woman on a journey” I wanted to throw something at the TV.
No, you’re a man on a journey! Ffs. Very disappointed in the writers.

It’s like it has some kind of inner checklist going on.
Murder? Check
Affair? Check
Partner not actually divorced? Check
Man becoming woman? Check
Deathbed wedding? Check
Wayward daughter? Check
Proposal? Check
Blackmail? Check

Etc etc.

I think Kay Mellor is playing plot bingo!

It’s rubbish, it quite entertaining rubbish!
