Anyone watching? Ok this is really mean but she doesn't look her best. Her hair and make up are not flattering.

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 22:56

Adele blubs all the time when she is singing the woman is worth millions,

PurpleStar123 · 05/11/2017 22:57

Clicked on this thread expecting it to be about how amazing Sheridan is. Except it was about her putting on weight. Well done, Mumsnet! For the record, I think Sheridan is amazing.

MrsJayy · 05/11/2017 22:57

She was better at Cilla than Cilla she was great

Fresta · 05/11/2017 22:58

She is a fab actress, and was great as Cilla. I love the fact that she isn't vain and plays varied roles, often looking like shit.

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/11/2017 23:03

What a nasty thread.
Sheridan is an amazing actress and has played some really great roles. She's been open and honest about how badly losing a parent hit her and is an inspirational young woman.

But no, let's bitch about her looks (even though she's beautiful).

Thetoothyteeth · 05/11/2017 23:06

Bitchy bitchy bitchy thread, judging someone on their weight and looks and tattoo. Utter bitch antics. This is why i don't take mn seriously - you can't be sure if any opinions when you ask for information are coming from someone decent or someone who gets their kicks starting threads like this.

Sheridan Smith had a breakdown and her dad died. Poor woman. Ffs.

ComedyBoobs · 05/11/2017 23:11

Blimey, the vipers are our tonight Hmm

parklives · 05/11/2017 23:11

She’s a fabulous real woman, we’re so used to seeing women airbrushed into abstraction on all forms of media that it’s obviously difficult for people to remember that.
She’s representing the average Jo who made it, and good for her.
I never really been a fan, and of course she’s not the worlds best singer, but she held her own and did a great job and I really respect her for that, especially with all the haters.

Ticktockwedontstop · 05/11/2017 23:15

You are right whatshoudmyusernamebe, this is a really mean post and totally uncalled for.

It’s such a shame the way some women seem to enjoy pulling other women down.

poptarting · 05/11/2017 23:24

This thread is grim and I’m reporting it for not being in the spirit of mumsnet.

papayasareyum · 05/11/2017 23:25

I’ve been on Mumsnet for many years and there’s a really unpleasant attitude towards women’s body size. If you’re female and weigh more than eight stone on Mumsnet, god help you

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 05/11/2017 23:30

I used to know her and she is amazing and very kind... as well as being an incredible actress. I recently saw her in Funny Girl and she was outstanding.

It's really sad that no matter what we do, it always boils down to appearance with women.

onlyonaTuesday · 05/11/2017 23:36

Why does this happen on threads about famous women?
In the past few weeks there has been bitchy comments about, Amanda Holden, Nigella, Claudia and now Sheridan.
They have been . Too fat, too thin, too much work done, fake tan wrong, make up wrong, don’t like their voice, ect
I just don’t get why it matters?!?!

squoosh · 05/11/2017 23:52

I really like her acting but that style of singing and the whole national treasure thing doesn't really do it for me. Feels a bit dated.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/11/2017 23:59

I expect this thread will go ‘poof’ but I’d just like to say that I think Sheridan is bloody brilliant. Everything she’s ever done has been absolute class. Did anyone see that episode of Inside No 9 where she’d been in a car crash and was reliving the moments of her life until she died? It was on again recently and although I knew what happened I still cried. And when she portrayed the lady that died of cancer. Had me howling. She’s such a fantastic actress. And a fantastic singer too, hence why she does theatre.

And I though she had a lovely set of pins in that short dress at the end there.

applecrumbleandcream · 06/11/2017 01:22

Strange how mean and heartless some people get to slag her off because she had a cry over the emotion of a song that obviously means so much to her. And to say she's put on weight, wrong clothes etc..please and should be expected to bugs scrutinised.....really??!!

sheldonesque · 06/11/2017 03:42

Love her. The lass is watchable - there is just something about her. The 12 days of Christine was beautifully done and like you Ms Adorabelle , I broke my heart. Same with the C Word.

I would rather watch her singing show tunes a million times over than the gusseted performer on the show before it. I may sound like a Nanna but if you need to flash your drawers when you sing then your talent won't be your voice.

OtterInDisgrace · 06/11/2017 03:50

I don’t care what she looks like, ffs. She seems such a lovely and authentic person. Incredibly rare in a ‘celebrity’. The people on here so overly concerned with how she looks - have a word with yourselves.

Sharknado · 06/11/2017 04:03

It's really sad that no matter what we do, it always boils down to appearance with women.

^This^
I rarely post but I have to say what an unkind and pointless thread this is. After all her achievements it is such a shame that Sheridan Smith’s appearance should be the reason a thread was started about her on mumsnet by another woman!

Honestly OP how would you feel if, after getting to the top of your chosen profession, all it boiled down to is being subjected to completely irrelevant and unkind comments about your appearance.

OtterInDisgrace · 06/11/2017 04:24

Incidentally, I don’t think it’s that those who are saying ‘stop judging’ don’t actually see change in people. It’s not like we don’t register that some people may look a bit different to how they used to.

It’s that even if we see it we don’t think it’s worth starting a conversation over and drawing others into a potential dissing contest.

People change. Sometimes they may indeed look to others like shit - in the accepted shit-looking catchment area of the day - but ffs, can’t we and shouldn’t we rise above this very base ‘need’ to point this out? And by ‘this’ I mean, our OPINIONS, mainly?

ToEarlyForDecorations · 06/11/2017 09:56

Goading much ?

RosyWelshcakes · 06/11/2017 10:54

That was the most fabulous treat.

DeleteOrDecay · 06/11/2017 11:06

This thread is so sad. This is an inspirational, insightful and talented woman and the focus seems to be on her weight and her looks.

Totally agree. This thread is a perfect example of the pressure women are put under (sometimes by other women) to constantly be pleasing to the eye at all times. This wouldn’t happen if the thread was about a man:

mydogisthebest · 06/11/2017 11:49

I love Sheridan and forgot this was on so only caught the last 5 minutes. I will watch it on catch up.

I think she is beautiful and seems a lovely person. She is a brilliant actress - loved her in Mrs Biggs and Cilla. In Cilla I was surprised just how good her voice is.

I booked to see her in Funny Girl in London but she was off when I saw it so saw her understudy. The understudy was brilliant but I wanted to see Sheridan so I booked for the local theatre when it toured. She was off then with mumps. I was so disappointed.

It seems I am destined not see her. I would love to have seen her sing Don't Rain on my Parade

MrsJayy · 06/11/2017 12:09

I am really shocked at some of these comments basically saying omg she was a state fat cant sing and terrible make up why is she even on telly jeez.
