I was very confused he made no sense and the writers have no sense

I quite enjoyed that episode. I thought the script could have been stronger in places but the acting was great.

Tina and Billy just nooooo

He portrayed, confused, deluded man who got lost on his way back to the nursing home.

I saw a man who still thinks he did nothing wrong and who is still obsessed with Kathy. What he was offering was the chance to stop what he is doing to Walford, whatever that might be. He wanted her to move on (forgive? Realise she made a mistake?) but not just because he was blackmailing her. When he does whatever it is he will tell her it was all her fault for being a silly woman and holding a grudge all these years.

I think JWB is a psychopath. No remorse or empathy and egotistical.

I'm glad someone else saw the same episode I did - I was beginning to wonder given no one else seems to have interpreted it as I did :o

Coming up next week, Lofty turns up at the square with a new head. And there’s an entire episode of him and Michelle having a deep and meaningful conversation about their past. Including lots of Michelle sighs and musings about middle age, like she’s Blanche du fucking Bois.

I think the whole avoidance of the word “rape” and him completely refusing to acknowledge that anything at all happened made it all a bit weird. It was like they were having two different conversations not with each other. If he had even said, “I know I made a mistake but I want to move on” it would have made a bit more conversational sense. But the whole thing just wasn’t natural. I think they were wide of the mark with This one.

The rape never happened according to him, though, did it? So he’s not going to mention it, never mind admit to a ‘mistake’.

And I can believe that even thirty years on, a rape survivor wouldn’t feel comfortable saying the word ‘rape’.

Well then why didn’t he deny it. Say she was wrong/confused etc? He just kept repeating the “I want to move forward” crap which made zero sense to Kathy as she hasn’t seen what we have so she has no idea what that means. How could she even agree to move forward with no idea what he meant. It was really badly done.

I'm surprised that Luisa Bradshaw White playing Tina doesn't have a word about the way Tina's sexulaity is portrayed. As a gay woman herself it must be pretty bloody annoying to play a character who seems to forget that she's gay so often.

I was washing up for the first part so I missed a lot of what JWB was boring on about.

She did. At the end when WB said he was interested in the future.

He wasn't 'just repeating' that they need to move on, he also talked about the trial and their relationship before the rape, before it got 'complicated' (his word). For someone obsessed, deluded and hell bent on revenge what he said made perfect sense to me.

I think denying it acknowledges that it happened. He came across as disappointed that she won't just let it go. To me, he is clearly a psychopath or something along those lines. I don't think you can judge him by normal behavioural standards.

As an aside, his voice is wonderful. I can imagine Kathy's feelings on hearing it again.

It's interesting that the female characters seem to be bisexual rather than gay (well, both her and Sonia, I can't think of any other gay female characters - have there been any other than Tosh?). The gay men don't - obviously Ben had that relationship with Abi but that was a clear storyline where he was denying being gay.

Tina has more one night stands with men than women.
She always feels sorry for them first as well - maybe its just her way of showing she cares or something? Who knows with EE writers, they seem a world away from normal people at times.
The whole Kathy/ JWB thing should also be resolved - its not good keep rehashing the same old stories. Will he also have this convo with the other woman he raped as well ( and was put in prison for?)

Soup - I think that that your interpretation is what they were going for, but as Kathy doesn't know his plans for Albert Square it made no sense. If she had discovered his plan prior to the scene and she was left with a choice of saying he didn't rape her or him ruining everyone on the square, it would have been a more powerful scene. He hasn't seen her for 20 years how would he know if she's moved on or not?
Her part was really to tell the viewers who don't know the backstory what happened.

red, kathy has no idea about this revenge thing with Max so your right, it doenst make any sense at all. unless there is more to come tonight or something - maybe Max will show up or kathy will start asking him questions or sounding people out as to what is going on, start doing some detective work. She sussed out that Jane was being blackmailed before she left, but didnt do anything, it might make sense to her now.

The emphasis in the episode wasn’t about WB moving on, so it’s not important that Kathy doesn’t know about his plan.

I think it did make sense from a story point of view. It's not important that she doesn't know what he's talking about and that is kind of the point. No doubt JWB will say something in his oh so reasonable voice along the lines of "This is all your fault Kathy. If only you could have moved on. Silly girl" and I do mean "girl" because I think JWB sees women as lesser beings.

JWB doesn't need to move on as he doesn't believe he has done anything wrong. The rape was all Kathy's fault in his mind just as the Walford plan will all be her fault.

I do think it's interesting that we've got different things out of a scene involving only 2 characters and one conversation.
