Willow, the mole question is that Gregory told Maggie that negan already knew of ricks plans .. So Dwight seems too obvious...maybe Gabriel...

Willow2017 · 08/11/2017 07:52

Ahh i see forgot that bit but at the time wondered if he was just covering his own ass. He had already hinted to Simon something was going to happen and thats how he got a free pass to the sanctuary.

CaptainBrickbeard · 08/11/2017 08:05

The callbacks this season are just reminding me how much better the show used to be! I am so, so bored of Gimple's trick of leaving a cliffhanger (Negan and Gabriel) for umpteen episodes - yes, it was powerful the first couple of times but I wish he had something new up his sleeve.

Rick's confrontation with Morales didn't bring us anywhere new. They've been wrestling with the same moral dilemma for ages now and there was nothing revealing or insightful in bringing Morales back.

I keep thinking about what a fantastic antagonist the Governor was and how Negan is so one-dimensional and pantomime in comparison. When he locked Andrea away with Milton, that was terrifying and suspenseful and genuinely shocking. Nothing they've done with Negan parallels it.

I feel like the battle scene now are flat because the main guys are in no real danger. In the Wolf attack on Alexandria, I was convinced Carol was going to die - taken out by one of our guys when she was disguised as a Wolf (I'm glad that didn't happen!) so I was totally on the edge of my seat. Now I know that the main cast aren't in peril and the deaths of minor characters are so clunkingly signposted - Aaron and Eric got so much screen time, it was glaringly obvious that Eric was going to die.

I really love this show but I'm wondering if it has just gone on too long now, or if they can actually pull something fresh and new out to get me gripped again.

MinorRSole · 08/11/2017 10:09

I have to confess that I am finding it a bit boring now. I’m a hardened fan but it’s just not working for me at all this season. I wish they would hurry up and dispose of Negan so we can move on.
I think I’m more interested in the character progression now and perhaps rebuilding civilisation.

It’s also pretty frustrating that the walkers seem to be a non issue now, they swat them away like flies and we haven’t had a good walker induced death in ages.

There are too many egos in the show and too much focus on the popular characters. I’m just bored and a bit sad

MinorRSole · 08/11/2017 10:11

They made a mistake with the deaths last season too imo, the show really isn’t as good without Abe and Glenn

Aridane · 08/11/2017 10:43

Yes - all a bit lacklustre- 'just' fighting scenes

Willow2017 · 08/11/2017 11:03

I dont have a problem with it so far. The whole 'war' was going to take major planning on thier part and was not going to be over in one episode. Plus I think expecting it to keep moving quickly along is unrealistic, life isnt like that, shit happens along the way to screw up plans but stuff still has to be taken care of. JMHO.

And i know Eric was 'wearing a red jumper' but it still pissed me off i liked him. Oh well maybe Aaron will eventually hook up with Jesus 😀

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2017 11:47

I want to know more about the virus. After all even if they rebuild civilisation it will still be a huge issue.
Wish I could remember eric. What is the significance of the red jumper

CaptainBrickbeard · 08/11/2017 12:04

Stealth, I'd like that too. Am going to try FTWD as I think my favourite bit is the collapse of civilisation; now it's all a bit of a grinding and relentless struggle and it's just lost the excitement!

I was remembering Shane and Otis and how terrifying the overrun school was - now they wouldn't bat an eyelid and would just plough through the walkers. Or Noah in the revolving door, that was a great perilous moment! I definitely want to see a proper zombie threat again, they are just like gory wallpaper now.

Its the curse of the red uniform in Star Trek. All the security officers who went on field trips with the main characters had red tops and invariably died Grin

Well there was the part when Rick and Michonne were at the old fun fair last season and they thought they could handle the walkers and it all nearly went very wrong.

BeyondNoone · 08/11/2017 14:01

Surely the walkers will be less of a threat now though? Some of them have been rotting away for years, plus you have to bear in mind that (generally) the people who are around now are those who have shown they are able to fight?

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2017 16:11

Really good point selection bias. Though some of those will be getting elderly or weak. Presumably people still suffer the usual diseases and don't get treated.

Yes but the people must be getting weaker too.sone of them anyway

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2017 21:53

Ah I've just seen the latest episode and realised this is the one with eric!
Why are they all wearing arm bands?
Why is Rick's taking endless photos?
Does ezekiel remind anyone else of Brian blessed?

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2017 22:05

Oh and they seem to have no problem with cats, fuel, guns, bullets, cameras etc but they really need hair bands for jesus and daryl. Daryl looks like my dd after a shower.

StealthPolarBear · 08/11/2017 22:20

And are Gabriel and negan still locked in that truck?

I think the Polaroid’s are gore Negan and co as they had them pinned up at the first outpost they took two seasons ago. Glenn saw them, the Lucille victims.

StealthPolarBear cats 😂

BeyondNoone · 09/11/2017 07:56

Yeah, he gave Darryl one of Glenn too, when he was captive

DontOpenDeadInside · 09/11/2017 13:11

Is Eric definitely dead? I have a feeling he was taken by the saviours and it was a different walker we saw. Surely they would have had Aaron kill Zombie Eric?

Grin yes Brian Blessed with dreads! cats Confused

Aaron was too griefstricken to go and end it for Eric walker, I don't know wouldn't he have wanted the closure.? The Aaron actor compared it to Morgan being unable to shoot his wife (didn't she then go on to kill his son?). But on a practical level it was too dangerous they needed to get on with the mission which was Eric's last wish from Aaron and also there were a lot of walkers in his vicinity. In the comics apparently he is killed outright so I am not sure why he was turned unless he is going to come back into it as a walker in some way possibly like Morgan's wife.

Willow2017 · 09/11/2017 18:21

He is definately dead you could see him walking away towards the other walkers.

Originally it was someone else doing the 'walking away bit' but he asked to do it and they reshot it with him so he could do 'Erics' final scene.
