Arrgh. You need a court order to remove children from their parents. Unless they are in immediate danger of harm, which they clearly weren't, when the police can provide support to SS to remove the DC immediately. You simply cannot turn up at a house at night and say "send your kids elsewhere for tonight, love and we'll see you tomorrow, ok?" It takes a lot of back and forth to court and visits by SWs to gather the proof they need to provide the judge to grant the order. Seriously. I'm so angry I think I might write my first ever complaint about a TV storyline.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 06/10/2017 22:27

We have SS involvement and it was exactly this fear that they could sweep in and take my DC that made the whole thing so incredibly stressful at the start until I realised they couldn't. I can't even tell you how awful it was at the start because of that fear.

DameSquashalot · 06/10/2017 22:35

It’s really bad. When I had DD I was struggling and had worrying thoughts, but I was too worried to tell anyone because I thought they would take DD away.

They really should think about the impact. I didn’t get my worries from a soap, but tonight’s episode will not help anyone that’s vulnerable.

NoCryLilSoftSoft · 06/10/2017 22:45

It really won't dame. I actually felt really panicked watching that happening tonight and it brought back all those feelings of anxiety. People need to feel they can ask for help if they need it. They need to know that SS will not swoop in and steal your children and soaps like EE have a duty to be responsible with the storylines the put out.

DameSquashalot · 06/10/2017 23:05

With all their PSAs I would expect them to do a lot more research before broadcasting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/10/2017 23:07

It's a shame ee doeent research some storylines better

Maybe Luke is feeling bad as likes ben but doesn't want to hurt him - but wants to hurt Kathy

Didn't reliese kneanu was from Benidorm

Does Ben never have to listen to Abi whinge? Surely she'd have mentioned the name of the company that her Dad & sister work for!

liverbird10 · 07/10/2017 05:06

@TeaAndToast You most definitely made that up! Grin Kathy never had a baby by Wilmott Brown.

She did, however, get pregnant after being raped as a 14 year old. That baby was adopted, and called Donna. She appeared in 1987 and died of a heroin overdose in 1989.

theotherendofthesockportal · 07/10/2017 08:54

@AGnu I can’t imagine Ben actually listening to Abi, he probably just heard noise lol

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2017 09:00

How did Ben know exactly where Weyland was? the keyring just said Weyland, he may have googled it, but you still have to find the place and know where to park, in london thats not easy to do on a good traffic day even with a sat nav! yet he got there and found its car park in no time at all in the middle of canary wharf. Its a wonder he didnt bump into max - he has disappeared lately. The chairman is just stupid too, all that lurking around looking sinister. makes you wonder why they want that run down square.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 10:26

The chairman of Weyland is so overacted, he is quite funny. Standing in the doorway with raised eyebrows. Lol.

In reality, Ben wouldn't have been able to access an underground car park and security would have taken the keys from Ben and said they pass them on. If he managed to bypass security, the reception desk would have stopped Ben and taken the keys. If Ben insisted on speaking to Luke/said he is expecting me, reception would have buzzed through to let Luke know Ben was on the way.

It is very unlikely that Ben would have made it past security and reception and end up sitting on a chair outside Luke's office until somebody opened an office door and spotted him.

Anyway wouldn't WB previously have tried to find Kathy and learned she had died years ago. Highly unusual that his revenge started so many years after and just when Kathy came back from the dead. Even if his encounter with Max in prison suddenly made him remember how much he hated the Square's residents, wasn't Max already in prison when Kathy reappeared so he wouldn't have been aware that she wasn't dead.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 10:30

Arthur's bruises were obviously from the hospital. Karmel and Kush would be aware of this as they saw him in hospital. Where is Denise while all this is going on, not very supportive to Kush really. Did they end up moving in together?

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2017 10:35

wildrose, all fantastic points!
The whole thing has just been dreamt up in order to bring back James Willmott brown ( who nobody liked or even care about or indeed, with some people, even remember ) in order to give Kathy and the Mitchells another 'turf war' even though Phil is a bit old and ill for it all and in real life would be putting his trotters up , as mick would say. It was fun at first trying to sort out who was who and why Max was creeping around meeting people ' up the shard' etc, but now we've all figured it out and been told whats going on, its lost its appeal and the main baddies are just not scary / credible enough. WB has done really well for himself, they have their 'empire' , so just leave it be.

SoupDragon · 07/10/2017 10:41

WB's revenge seems to be against the whole of Walford though. I imagine that finding out Kathy wasn't dead was a bit of a bonus. I can't remember how the rest of the Walford population behaved towards WB in that time.

Why is he gunning for the Vic in particular? Wouldn't the Albert be a target as I think that used to be the Dagmar? It seems odd he's going for places rather than specific people.

The whole thing with Stacy "not coping" is odd. Was it explained how Arthur got her tablets at all? I wonder what Carmel said to SS when she made her anonymous call given they turned up mob handed so promptly.

southeastdweller · 07/10/2017 10:47

The Vic is the heart and soul of the square, though, so it makes sense he's after it.

It was Luke who met Max in prison, not W-B. Maybe W-B never knew Kathy 'died'?

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 11:00

What have Weyland bought/tried to buy so far?
The chippie? Owned by Kathy's son. Hardly a 'win' for WB as Ian was dying to sell it and they paid over the odds for it.

The Vic. At one point owned by the Mitchells but not anymore and it wouldn't have been owned by them back then. Mick refused to serve Max though so is that the reason?

The car lot. Now owned by the Mitchells but was. Frank Butchers first and so far they haven't expressed any interest in it. We are just guessing something might happen because of Phil's secret phone call about telling Jay lies and because Max originally owned it so is probably bitter about not having it?

The garage maybe? Totally coincidental and they haven't expressed any interest in it but Max tried to trick Ben out of it before so is probably bitter about not having it.

Anyway how would anyone know who owns what as most of the 'businesses' in EE change hands by cash. That explains why they are going after places though.

In the boardroom at one point, Luke's phone rang and the 'comedic baddie' chairman remarked along the lines of 'another boy on the go'. Isn't it very unlikely that implied serial dater Luke would so quickly and fall so hard for Ben who he knows A WEEK at most?

Personally I think it isn't adding up because it simply doesn't make any sense and is bad writing.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 07/10/2017 11:02

I agree the SS storyline seemed a bit clumsy with loads of irregularities. Wouldn't the social worker at least look at the alleged bruises? Confused
I find it odd that Stacey and Martin aren't tying themselves in knots trying to work out how Arfer got hold of her pills? They just seemed to accept it was an "accident" and aren't at all baffled by it.

You're right Blondes there was no need for the lingering close up of Mick's hairy moobs. So unnecessary Grin

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2017 11:25

The ' baddies' were talking about building flats a few episodes ago, but i cant remember if they meant on the car lot site or the Vic? This is why they want the Vic ( i guess) Janine tried doing this once too and nearly succeeded, but didn't.
Biggest mystery to me is why Luke even gives Ben the time of day - surely someone with his money would have gone to a garage closer to where he works and have someone drop it off for him too.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 11:27

I think taking his car to Ben's garage was just an excuse to see Ben.

southeastdweller · 07/10/2017 11:37

It’s not just about Luke wanting ‘a bit of rough’ he’s also using Ben to get the garage.

Thymeout · 07/10/2017 12:09

Wayland's prime motive is financial. If they buy up all the freeholds and do a deal with the council, they can redevelop the whole square and make £millions. Revenge is just the icing on the cake. They'd do it anyway, whether there were grievances or not. But it looks as if personal involvements, Fi, Ben, Max, might end up putting a spoke in their wheel.

Is the SS storyline still Sean O'Connor? It reminds me of the Helen Archer saga on DV and coercement which had hundreds of posters protesting about legal details which he'd overlooked.

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2017 12:23

It could all do with a make over though, Kathy's 'caff' is beyond grim and hasn;t had a spruce up in years. Beales must be an eyesore now after the fire and the Vic is dated. The Albert isnt really mentioned and not sure if jack is still running the boxing ring gym ( Ingrid mentioned the gym to Jack last night) the car lot is just empty and has litter everywhere ( and soft bin bags)
maybe Weyland is what it needs after all...

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 12:42

Why the garage though? Hardly the 'hub' of the Square. Why haven't they sought to buy Jack's flat conversion and build a tower block or concentrate on a group of buildings beside each other to create one large building.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 07/10/2017 12:56

Buying up all the freeholds makes sense I suppose.

So the Albert is next although that might be in keeping with young tenants of new apt blocks so maybe not. But Jack's flats, then the undertakers meaning Billy is once again out of a job, the minute mart, Yet no mention whatsoever of these. And people's actual houses ie the home owners?

If the concentrated on one particular area it might make more sense but the chippie was not beside where the garage is. The cafe is not beside the car lot. So they will have pockets of buildings that are right beside a homeowner's house, a homeowner who is attached to the history of the Swylyare. Perhaps Ian is one of the main residents who would refuse to sell his aunt's house but they have written the storyline of Jane needing a bungalow to get around this?

Presumably they already have the launderette, Deans old barber shop, Tania's old place, the chippie,

We need a map of the current layout of the Square!!!!!

The80sweregreat · 07/10/2017 13:01

wildrose, the whole 'geography' of the square is a bit beyond me at times. i agree that a patch of land for flats is a better idea then pockets of places doted around. the vic would make ideal flats with its old fashioned windows. Jane and Ian were going to move to a ground floor place, but i;m not sure where this was!.. its all a mystery.
