Re watched on iPlayer as couldn't sleep!

The major and Fi have a brief moment where it appears the mayor is colluding with her

BadHairDay0 · 16/09/2017 08:28

Does anyone notice that Eastenders has very good wardrobe, scene setters, hair and make up etc.

I'm slightly obsessed with all the background (more interesting that what's going on in the foreground most of the time!). I really love the attention to detail with all the house props / home décor and how's it's matched to the characters. I absolutely loved the redecoration of Honey & Billy's house after Pam & Les left. It thought: yep, that's exactly what Honey would have chosen!

And Stacey's and Martin's paint-over-the-wallpaper because they're strapped for cash. And Ben & Jay's crappy bedsit looks really authentic, with their roadsign and other random stuff. I just love it.
It's all brilliant.

Venella · 16/09/2017 09:49

fairfax I don't think I watched that one, I'll be on sausage alert!

Is the Kush/Denise situation a double bluff? As soon as she proposed and he said yes, I thought uh oh, that's it, he's going to be killed off, because that's soap law. But what if just this once it didn't happen?

Linda and Mick going round Ted's and Joyce's was absolutely ridiculous.

If they're just sending them to jail and that's it, then what was the point of introducing them in the first place? There might be more PSA about PTSD etc etc

WHERE's PHIL?!

Venella · 16/09/2017 09:52

I like to look at the sets and props too. Jack still has the Ibiza club posters hanging over the sofa.

The80sweregreat · 16/09/2017 10:08

Yes, where is Phil? he has a lot of time off considering he was in italy for most of this year. What has happened about the car lot and lying to Jay?

I like the old Ibiza club posters too!

Ted and Joyce's place looks so old fashioned. If they are both 'going dowwnnn' i wont miss them much. Maybe it was all done to just get L and Mick back together anyway, rather a long winded way, but it seems to have worked for now. How will Sausage get over his experience though? He is a budding hot shot lawyer dont you know!

AGnu · 16/09/2017 10:33

Pretty sure that the mayor just said that she'd asked council to take another look at the plans, not that they would definitely change anything. Classic sneaky politician move!

I actually felt rather sorry for Ted but then I recently lost my grandfather who never talked much at all about his experiences in the war. It did seem ridiculous how he went from the friendly old man in the pub to so severely traumatised that he nearly killed someone in a few episodes. They could've had some fireworks or something at some point, or at least showed Mrs Spam trying to soothe him after a nightmare, just to hint that all might not be hunky dory.

I think the set designs are the most well thought out bit of the entire programme at the moment!

Venella · 16/09/2017 11:18

Agnu Flowers

Yes, just like Fi changed from hard-nose to snivel-nose and back within a week or two.

I know Phil is tough as old boots and probably at home while Shazza is at the hospital and has lots of shopping to do – but someone could've at least mentioned him.
The writers could get super creative with the dialogue, eg "Sharon, how is Phil?" -"He's fine, he just needs some rest"

50Symptoms · 16/09/2017 11:22

I agree BadHair and others - its all brilliant. Apart from the scripts at the moment, I just cringe through most of it or turn the sound down Hmm! I have tried to get into Coronation Street as my mum says its lots better, but all the scene-sets and clothes and make up are so boring. As if its done on a budget or set in the early 80s or something.

youarenotkiddingme · 16/09/2017 12:12

Mayor said something to Fi about people can be persuaded to change their minds quite quickly hinting that you just tell them what they want to hear.
Then she ignored the direct question about Walford Towers (this always makes me laugh!) being knocked down.

SpanishFly · 16/09/2017 13:13

I still don't understand the whole Weyland/Fi/Max/Revenge storyline. It was set up months ago but I just don't get it.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 16/09/2017 13:44

Getting an icd put in is minor surgery. Takes an hour, local anaesthetic. They're acting like he's getting a quadruple bypass

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 16/09/2017 13:47

50 do not watch Corrie it's about ten times worse than Enders at the moment. Rita is going doolally and a load of nonsense about Phelan keeping Andy in a basement.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/09/2017 14:56

Hatesummer I'm still laughing at how you said Ian was quite chirpy when telling Louis about Steven.

He really was wasn't he? Remarkably so. His new BFF is obviously cheering him up no ebd!

50Symptoms · 16/09/2017 16:43

I think EE scripts could really do with a kick up the proverbial. Apart from a couple of top scenes - Abi and Lauren's arguments, Steven and Abi's scheming, Lauren's 21st birthday, and Max's shenanagans its all as blank as a botox bender. People staring into space and saying I care about you, I love you, we're a team, don't answer the door, she's your sister/brother/dad/whatever, its grim pickings. I did laugh out loud though a few weeks back when Sonia said "my fishfingers are defrosting" in an effort to get away from Joyce's old man, a fine comedic moment.

Thanks for the review Corporal, saves me the bother.

Akire · 16/09/2017 17:05

Ian was crying when Steven was going to die, now he has not a single tear. No phone call to his gran or brothers. No longing looks at his phot. Zilch! Pet hamster have been grieved over more.

cheesydoesit · 16/09/2017 19:50

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but did Kush and Shabnam ever get divorced? Maybe that will throw a clanger in the marriage works if he survives this op? No one is allowed a happy ending remember!

dingdongdigeridoo · 16/09/2017 20:10

The set design is well done and manages to make the homes look very normal. Ian's house is solidly middle class and a bit dull, Kim's place has the look of someone newly in the money who has gone for ostentatious crap. The shared house is scarily accurate and looks grubby and sad. Dot's house definitely has that old lady feel with dated furniture, reflecting her generation being so careful with money.

I like that none of the houses are properly coordinated or decorated like a show home!

SteampunkPrincess · 16/09/2017 20:16

i think that The shared house is scarily accurate and looks grubby and sad. is too caricature, too over the top

Optimist1 · 16/09/2017 20:35

My feeling about Ian's lack of reaction to Steven's death is that he's probably a bit punch-drunk from all the tragedy in his life in the recent past. He's pretty much emotionally anaesthetised about Jane's condition, too, isn't he?

Theycalledmethewildrose · 16/09/2017 20:36

I have to agree that the shared house is over the top. If the occupants were eighteen year old college students, I'd probably think differently. But they are all employed twenty somethings.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 16/09/2017 20:56

My houses were still like that when I was working in my 20s. Didn't earn much, expensive city.

Don't want Kush to die!

dingdongdigeridoo · 16/09/2017 21:28

It's a lot like houses I've lived in. When you live in the city and are in your 20s you don't waste your cash on nice interior design. Everything is second hand and jumbled together and minimal cleaning takes place.

Or maybe me and my friends were just gross.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 16/09/2017 21:41

Me too then dong

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2017 22:07

i still dont know why donna moved from her lvely 2 bed flat to live in an shared hovel

Can anyone summarise what the story is with Mr Spam? I watched last night's episode but clearly just glazed over when they were on the screen because I can't remember the "revelation".
