Dr Foster is back on Tuesday

I vaguely remember this. Can someone jog my memory please? Also how did it end ?

Something happened with between Tom and Simon whilst she was looking for him in the garden... Tom seemed pretty upset about something when she said they were leaving and went quite willingly. I reckon Simon is holding something over Tom and thats why Tom left Gemmas so easily to stay with Simon. Tom looked pretty miserable at the dinner table when the screen was focused on just him...

Iamtheresurrection · 06/09/2017 06:01

I think Tom was caught having sex with that girl he was with. Simon caught them and used the information to blackmail him into staying with him.

elfinpre · 06/09/2017 06:07

She wasn't a "strong feisty woman" in s1 she was a fucking unhinged strong feisty woman with a manipulative twat of a husband.

The whole point of the drama is that no one is wholly in the right and both main characters behave appallingly.

The80sweregreat · 06/09/2017 07:08

Its just a bit of escapism, the first series was good - this looks to become revenge central - but i will carry on watching, just to see what she is up to with the syringes in her bag and so on.
i wondered about the water luncharmsrong , she is forever drinking.
Poor Kate, she should get out as soon as she can, but she wont.

Slartybartfast · 06/09/2017 07:13

oh and that house was so child unfriendly, all that glass, the swimming pool, and a toddler
and where was the toddler during the rest of the party.

The80sweregreat · 06/09/2017 07:16

slarty. The husband doesnt care about any of that , he just wants the swanky house and all the trophy wife. he really is a bastard.!!

Cocolepew · 06/09/2017 07:42

Does the wife of the neighbour she shagged know they DTD?
Roz needs her comeuppance.

Loopytiles · 06/09/2017 07:46

Sexist writing. The core character is the wronged woman as unhinged bunny boiler.

DH thought Tom had been shagging. I thought perhaps Simon had told Tom about what his mother had done before he attacked her - pretend to have hurt / killed him.

She can't easily murder Simon as she'd be prime suspect!

I disagree the friends are 2 faced. It's her ex's town after all, she's not been there that long and so many of them just became her friends through him. Many people know their own marriage may not be perfect and they may have come through affairs so don't instantly want to throw stones at the evil adulterer and never see them again when a couple split up but just see both as normal flawed people and presume the marriage had problems and wasn't working anyway.
I find Gemma too silly. I'd divorce her and live with younger but calmer woman too. Agree she should have moved away. She should lose her job as she's unbelievable as a GP any way. Agree it seems written by a man who hates women and thinks we're all unhinged harpies.

PoppyPopcorn · 06/09/2017 07:54

My main problem with this sort of series is that all of the characters are dreadful. You can't root for any of them because they're all manipulative or unhinged, so you don't really care what happens to them. The "Gone Girl" book which was so popular gave me the same feelings.

2rebecca · 06/09/2017 08:01

Agree, I just watched 10 minutes in the middle. Also unless I'm watching sci fi I like my drama to be believable. This isn't.

Imbroglio · 06/09/2017 08:09

Friend should have said she was going, not pretended she wasn't going. It's the deception that Gemma can't get her head around. Most of the characters accept some 'turning a blind eye' as part of getting along but Gemma can't. Interesting that Kate managed Gemma's intrusion of her wedding party by being publicly truthful, which disarmed Gemma.

Gemma is totally hypocritial when it comes to her own bending of the rules at work and expecting people to turn a blind eye to that.

flapjackfairy · 06/09/2017 08:11

I was also stressed out watching it and they are obviously going to let simon turn the screws and ' win' in every situation to wind us all up more and more!
Hopefully he will come a cropper big style in the end !
I have a mad theory re the present in the box! It looked just the right size and shape for a pregnancy test to me ! Could that be why gemma was asking simon whether he was going to have more children or not ? Could they have dtd and she is up the duff by him ! There was enough sexual chemistry between them to suggest they would be at it on the kitchen table the first chance they got !
That would be sweet revenge on kate and a right kick in the teeth at her wedding party!
Probably that is my imagination going a step too far though !!?

MissEliza · 06/09/2017 08:18

I was watching with 15 year old ds. He called Tom 'a complete little brat' for leaving his mum. For some reason, that made me feel good!
I think the teacher may be a partner in crime for Gemma. He had a glint in his eye when he realised it was her ex's party. He looks like he's up for a bit of mischief.

MorrisZapp · 06/09/2017 08:21

You watched it with your 15 year old son??? 'I felt your cock' and all?

I used to run screaming from the room if JR kissed Sue Ellen in my mums presence :)

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 06/09/2017 08:21

Just HOW big is Simon's cock that she could feel it through his trousers from 2 feet away?

ChestnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 06/09/2017 08:22

It's nuts and cringe worthy! I just can't suspend disbelief long enough. Particularly as to the impossibility the creepy, lispy, charmless, charisma free ex-husband could be considered desirable.

elfinpre · 06/09/2017 08:23

Agree it seems written by a man who hates women and thinks we're all unhinged harpies.

Are the male characters all perfect and wonderful? I think not.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/09/2017 08:38

I'm so glad the consensus is that it was cr*p.
I thought it was just me.
So disappointing.
I am glad she's not my GP Smile

Loopytiles · 06/09/2017 08:41

The male characters are arseholes too, yes, but dr foster is the main character and the main story is based on her "revenge"/being unhinged. Relies on boring, sexist and dated cliches about women.

elfinpre · 06/09/2017 08:49

The main story, I think we'll find, will be about Simon's revenge on Dr Foster.

I will keep watching: it's soapy, manipulative and deliberately provocative and the characters are awful. Televisual upmarket Take a Break. After series one I expected no less Grin.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 06/09/2017 08:51

Loopy but if she reacted in a level headed way, the story would be boring and would last one episode.
She gets over it and leads a good life. Who would watch that?

MissEliza · 06/09/2017 08:57

Yes Morris that was excruciating and I had recorded it so I fast forwarded. I expected someone to jump on that but just to point out, 15 rated films will have that kind of language too.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 06/09/2017 09:02

I'll keep watching to see if she still has that lovely swingy yet soft mac.

What are we supposed to think she's been doing for 2 years? Being all normal and professional yet the minute she hears he's back she's climbing round his garden???

MissEliza · 06/09/2017 09:13

I don't think her response in the beginning was that out of the ordinary. She was nosey about the house and of course was astonished that they could afford it. She felt naturally weird and anxious about Tom going to her ex's wedding. It was Simon who provoked her by sending that picture, the knobhead.
