Dr Foster is back on Tuesday

I vaguely remember this. Can someone jog my memory please? Also how did it end ?

That was awful telly. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but Suranne Jones is in credits as a producer.

flapjackfairy · 20/09/2017 05:56

Ai missed most of it but i see my prediction after week one that they would be at it on the kitchen table as soon as they could was bang on.
Wonder about my other prediction then ? Gemmas present to kate being a positive pregnancy test ?

flapjackfairy · 20/09/2017 05:58

Bang on ? No pun intended Grin

NotAgainYoda · 20/09/2017 06:31

Another continuity error:

Gemma's fridge door couldn't decide whether it was open or closed one second to the next

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2017 06:33

I was a bit confused at the end as they seemed to driving towards Parminster instead of away from it.
It was awful tonight - what happened to the sassy strong woman with her acid in episode one? it held so much promise, now its not.
2 more episodes to go and i;m just bored with it all and i dont care what happens to any of them, apart from the son.

NotAgainYoda · 20/09/2017 06:35

The80s

I didn't have my glasses on but we were thinking it was a sign saying Au Revoir from Parminster

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2017 06:38

ahh, that makes sense.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/09/2017 07:20

My biggest problem with this is that I have a son Tom's age and I can't imagine what kind of circumstances would drive me to act with only my own, unhinged, desires in mind rather than the well being of my son. Yes, I get that Simon was unfaithful yadda yadda yadda but seriously - who would really be so self-obsessed that they'd put their child's mental health at risk just to get some crazy revenge?

That part of it is so fundamentally implausible that the rest just doesn't matter.

Cagliostro · 20/09/2017 07:38

I wondered if the whole strangling during sex thing was some kind of omen about how one of them will be killed at the end

LoveDeathPrizes · 20/09/2017 07:39

I think Bertie's just a bit private from what I can tell with a bit of a healthy suspicion of the press. It's not hard to discover he's with Sally. They're a bit of a fixture at opening nights aren't they?

And YY to lack of consideration for Tom. It's not quite holding together as a convincing portrayal of parenthood but then it's all a bit pantomime anyway.

lasketchup · 20/09/2017 07:45

What were the syringes about in episode 1?? I’m really hoping all these loose ends are tied up it’s like never ever gets past face value, nothing deeper no underlying message it just is what it is.

Gavisconbreath · 20/09/2017 08:31

Another cringey episode last night, but I'm committed to seeing it through to the end now. There hasn't been much of Kate or her folks yet and would like to see more of them.

People have spoken about Simon not being Tom's father, but maybe Tom is actually not Gemma's? That's why Simon could easily drag Tom away and Gemma could not do anything about it.

For a minute before the sex scene I thought she was trying to film a conversation between Simon and Tom on the sly, but no, she turns all desperate and shags him downstairs while their son, who clearly is having mental health issues due to their horrid divorce, is suffering upstair having to listen to it.

If this is divorce, I'm glad I'm not married.

On the plus side, less smugness from Simon.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 20/09/2017 08:51

I've just realised I saw Bertie as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda The Musical. I thought I recognised himGrin.

He was absolutely amazing in it!

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2017 09:08

Gavisconbreath, i have a colleague who is going through an horrendous divorce - she is close to breakdown with it all. She certainly would not be trying to have 'hate sex'.
Its a horrible thing to watch someone go through.
I am at a loss now how this drama will unfold - i hope Tom doesnt do anything stupid.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 20/09/2017 09:16

I've never hate sexed anyone. I stick with hate hating them Grin followed swiftly with indifference.

I wouldn't give an ex the satisfaction of a hate fuck. I reckon they must only exist in some warped male fantasies.

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2017 09:30

she does need to get on with her life now - its been two years, she has a good career with money and a son that really needs her.
She needs to move on a lot - he isnt worth the effort. He really isnt.
It should have ended last night - good bye Parminster all the horrible people in it and start a new life with Tom.

NearLifeExperience · 20/09/2017 09:34

Isobel's mother used to be Simon's secretary, and bears a grudge because of how badly he treated her?
You know what that means, don't you? Isobel is Simon's daughter! Brief fling with mum (because his young doctor wife - who had only just conceived her own child - was always tired/ busy) then he dumped her!

They wouldn't allude to some bad treatment and then not provide some juicy follow up, surely?

Pregosaurus · 20/09/2017 09:36

Soooooo bad, but I'm totally hooked in the cheapest way! Really enjoying this thread :)

BLACKTUESDAY1 · 20/09/2017 09:42

That'd be awful meaning tom assaulted his own sister!

phoenix1973 · 20/09/2017 09:48

Enough already. This was cringeworthy and should have finished yesterday.
Im curious about what gemma gave kate though.

LoveDeathPrizes · 20/09/2017 09:54

Ooooh nearlife that would explain Kate's disgust and insistence that Tom be nowhere near his other half sister!!!

IrianOfW · 20/09/2017 10:02

"Although have to agree with the male-centred script. He nearly killed her. Now he hates her. He cheated on her. Lied to her. Destroyed her son. And yet somehow we're team Gemma or team Simon. There aren't many shades of ambiguity there unless you're a pretty massive misogynist"

Quite! Its extraordinary.

NikiBabe · 20/09/2017 10:05

Isobel's mother used to be Simon's secretary, and bears a grudge because of how badly he treated her? You know what that means, don't you? Isobel is Simon's daughter!

She used to be his secretary as in series one! It was recently that she was his secretary and she frequently stays with her dad. That was mentioned in series 1. Simon isnt her dad.

NearLifeExperience · 20/09/2017 10:08

Ah, fair enough, Niki I don't remember any of that at all from series one!
Didn't know we'd met Isobel/ her mum before.

RubyRed2017 · 20/09/2017 10:10

Far be it from me to defend the script but regarding the "hate fuck" thing. Its not really a hate fuck at all.

Simon still fancies Gemma, he is a serial shagger and likes the thrill of the forbidden fruit - now he is with Kate that's what Gemma is.
Gemma still wants him, she never wanted any of this remember. She wishes none of it had ever happened hence she hasn't changed anything hoping he'll just move back in.

People don't make rational decisions....or at least they have their reasons for making decisions, the outside observer can see they are not good reasons!
