Dr Foster is back on Tuesday

I vaguely remember this. Can someone jog my memory please? Also how did it end ?

Kate's disgust is completely misplaced. Fucking a married man who lied to her, lied to his wife, lied to his son, lied to her father to get funding and smashed his wifes head against a glass door.

Strange she isn't disgusted by her husband and herself. Instead she is smug about winning that "prize".

I can see Simon tiring of Kate. She is naive and fucking boring.

She doesnt seem to work so he's supporting them: big house, big mortgage he said. When Kate is barring Tom from the house Simon actually looks daggers at her.

So Simon's lost a lifestyle where his wife bankrolled the family, worked hard and was slightly crazy just like him and he had a good relationship with his son and now he's stuck with Kate and lost his son and lifestyle where his wife pays the bills. Kate's got nothing about her, never did. She's bland and boring. Something tells me he'll get sick of her.

RubyRed2017 · 20/09/2017 10:21

Yes NikiBabe but she's also 23 and blonde. (she must be 25/6 now surely as 2 years have passed?) Unfortunately men are that shallow so he will keep her around as a trophy. Also her rich dad may well be bankrolling them dont forget Simon is said to be a crap businessman. But Simon will no doubt shag around on her, he's already started.

There is a good series to be made exploring the consequences of infidelity and divorce. Sadly, this isn't it!

Istoletherainbow · 20/09/2017 10:39

Need to catch up with this episode, but wtf is hate sex?! Confused Sounds like delightful viewing Hmm Did I read strangling somewhere?! Seriously, I'm not sure I can watch actually. It sounds really gratuitous.

LoveDeathPrizes · 20/09/2017 10:40

Yeah she's the one who enabled Gemma to see Kate and him for the first time. I still wouldn't rule it out though.

Gavisconbreath · 20/09/2017 11:09

the80's

I meant that I think this depiction of divorce is pretty extreme and I'm not keen on how the writer has portrayed Gemma as desperate by having 'hate sex'. I'm guessing most people wouldn't do this, but then a divorced couple being amicable probably wouldn't make it to TV.

I'm kind of hoping it comes together well in the next two shows and it depict Gemma's character as making better decisions.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/09/2017 11:18

I love this thread! Looking forward to catching up and spotting the continuity mistakes!

RyanStartedTheFire · 20/09/2017 11:31

Gemma still wants him, she never wanted any of this remember. She wishes none of it had ever happened hence she hasn't changed anything hoping he'll just move back in.
Yep. Her sending that text telling him they were leaving was her looking for a reaction to me. He simply put his phone down and carried on with his new family.

Gavisconbreath · 20/09/2017 11:32

Did the concept of 'hate sex' exist before this thread, or was it invented here?

If you had to give someone a definition of hate sex how would you describe it?

I've just read that Suranne Jones has said that we'll end up feeling sympathetic towards Simon at the end

I bloody hope not.
If it does end with us hatting Gemma and feeling sympathy towards Simon, then it will be proof that this was written by a man who thinks that all women are crazy and drove the poor man to it.
I want Gemma and Simon to get their revenge and come out of it smelling of roses.

Not going to happen, is it?

If there's a series 3 they should get MN to write it.
Now that I would definitely watch Grin
We could show them how it should be done.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 20/09/2017 11:40

The neighbour in the show used the term "hate sex". If I'd not seen the show and heard it elsewhere I'd assume it was another term for rape (which this wasn't).

mydogisthebest · 20/09/2017 11:41

Personally I didn't feel that much sympathy for Gemma in series 1. In this series I have absolutely zero sympathy for her. She is a horrible, crazy woman

cudeatahorse · 20/09/2017 11:53

I have zero sympathy for Simon.

He's a horrible, nasty, crazy character.

What kind of man slams the door in his offspring's face and won't let him live there, because the new wife 'won't like it'
Your child should come first before any demands from the second wife.
Who are these men that treat their new children better than their old children?

Simon is vile. I hope he gets his comeuppance. I have zero sympathy for men like this.
It's always the older children from their first marriages that usually suffer.
They get treated like toys. Discarded for newer ones.

The scene where Tom was being rejected broke my heart.
I can imagine that happens fairly frequently. For real.

merrygoround51 · 20/09/2017 12:05

Cudeatahorse Plenty of men do this. I know of 2 who threw their sons out because their new wives demanded it.

The sons were having behavioural issues (one using low grade drugs) which were no doubt driven by difficult separations.

The new wives simply didn't want to deal with it and the Dads didn't have the character to be there for their children,

Its extremely sad.

cudeatahorse · 20/09/2017 12:07

It's very interesting that Gemma gets the Crazy label. yet I haven't heard that term used to describe Simon, not once.
Yes, she has done some extremely crazy things, but so has
Simon:

Obsessed about her for two whole years.
Buys a house a couple of streets away.
Shows his son horrible pictures of his mother.
Interferes with his son's schooling, just to score points (email)
Purposefully wrecks his BF's marriage by getting him drunk and setting a honey trap.

and that's just to name a few.

and yet men can get away with doing all sorts of crazy stuff, but never get labelled crazy. Confused

Crazy and Paranoid are labels reserved exclusively for women Angry

2rebecca · 20/09/2017 12:07

Gemma won't be moving far. She's senior partner in a GP practice so will have to work at least 3 months notice if she's resigning and dissolving the partnership. Ending a partnership isn't like walking away from a PAYE job with a month's notice, so she'll still be in Parminster. I was sure the sign on the house said "To Let" yet she sent Simon a photo of a "For Sale" sign.
I think moving away from the pretend friends is sensible.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 20/09/2017 12:11

Glad I've found this thread. Binge watched the first series but going by the comments here shall not bother with this one.

KungFuEric · 20/09/2017 12:20

It's at that 'Dear God what am I watching? but I still am' stage now, and I feel I'm committed to see it through to the end.

I'm a bit disappointed by the rape storyline, it feels grubby to try to pigeon it in and just leaves everyone looking unpleasant. There's no one you want to root for anymore.

happinessbythekilowatt · 20/09/2017 12:23

Didn't Anna say that she could still live in the same town & never have to see Simon? (when she was saying Gemma is a fool etc and wants to see him.) So maybe the selling of the house was faked and they're not really moving? I still think they're going away (to Mary's?) but not permanently.

Need to know what was in the box she handed Kate. Has Kate opened it yet? Maybe it was something damning about Simon & now Kate & Gemma are seeking out some sort of long drawn-out revenge Grin

Sorry I don't know how to do italics so I've just done bold..

2rebecca · 20/09/2017 12:31

It wasn't a rape though, the girl was clear it stopped before penetration. It was a violent sexual assault though.

JamOrCreamFirst · 20/09/2017 12:39

Anyone remember the film "War of the Rises"? They both ended up dead.
