Dr Foster is back on Tuesday

I vaguely remember this. Can someone jog my memory please? Also how did it end ?

I am definitely enjoying this thread more than the programme to the point that I have only read the thread and not watched episode 2.

I thought series 1 was batshit but this one is taking batshit to a whole new level.

Gemma is pathetic. Truly pathetic. I have zero sympathy for her. He's a twat, she's, if anything, worse. Quite honestly, as she pokes around in people's lives, off her tits on drink, I think "well, who'd blame Simon if this is what she's like"

The premise for a second series was never really there IMO, man leaves wife, gets younger woman pregnant, wife has bit of a breakdown. Everyone moves on. The end. So to bring her back, she had to carry on being in the throes of batshittery (which she clearly is) but where will it end?

I am liking the idea of Kate being his daughter though. Because they were all obviously chucking their carkeys in the ashtrays at their naice middle-class supper parties. Maybe Tom is Neil's? Kate is Simon's?

I wonder if Neil-actor gets fed up with being typecast as a stripey shirt wearing philanderer? The times I've seen his bum in things. And he usually meets a sticky end as a result. You'd think he'd have learned.

The nightclubs always look like somewhere Steve Strange and Vivienne Westwood would have frequented in 1984. And there are always only about 25 people there.

PantPlot · 13/09/2017 08:32

It's fantastic to see such a non-sterotypical portrayal of a middle aged woman on TV

She's not middle aged- she's not even forty!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 13/09/2017 08:38

Really?? I thought she was mid 40s minimum!

RyanStartedTheFire · 13/09/2017 08:40

I thought Simon had said she was in her 40s in the first episode.

PantPlot · 13/09/2017 08:43

Nope- he said she was 'pushing forty' I'm sure (ish)

LoveDeathPrizes · 13/09/2017 08:48

Maybe teacher is being paid. That might justify the weird moment of wasted exposition about Gemma paying someone for sex... Hes beautiful too. She gets all the great cock.

MissEliza · 13/09/2017 08:49

I think there was potential in the second series. She'd 'driven' him out of the town he'd grown up in. Of course he'd feel bitter. However there was absolutely no development in plot or main characters last night. It was a waste of an hour.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 13/09/2017 08:55

I think she is stereotypical. Or at least how women are seen unfortunately still. Man leaves, woman falls apart because that's what women do. Woman becomes bunny boiling mentalist because woman, without man cannot function. Woman makes utter public arse of herself, risks losing job etc etc because can't go on without him. But then, woman thinks fuck that and gets on with life, wouldn't bring in the viewers I suppose!

It's definitely written by some neanderthal who hates women, that's for sure. I'm disappointed in SJ for gushing over it all the time. If anything, she should be a bit embarrassed.

PoppyPopcorn · 13/09/2017 08:56

Well that was another hour of my life I won't get back. What a load of twaddle. Simon is awful, Gemma is awful, Neil is awful, the Sian woman is awful - just hate the lot of them and the writing is piss poor.

EdnatheHousemaid · 13/09/2017 09:05

I found it quite exhausting to watch. And, I dunno, a bit depressing.

There are so many loose ends that carry over from one week to the next. What was she planning to do with those syringes she put in her dr's case when she was dissolving her wedding ring?

What was in the present she gave Kate?

So many 'really?' moments too: walking out on a patient (with no comeback), drinking wine with Tom's mate (where were his parents, didn't they hear them chatting?), why wasn't mate completely spooked by seeing her watching him outside? Why is perfectly lovely teacher so interested in her? Why didn't Neil refuse to find out info from Simon for her?

It just seems like quite hard work, watching this second series...

The smoking is odd. She's deranged and yet they've made a big point of her smoking again. Maybe it'll end with a fire.

NC4now · 13/09/2017 09:23

So she's late 30s with a 15-year-old son? So say, 23 when she had him? She's done very well career wise. I know a few doctors socially and they tend to put off having their children till their 30s, but I guess that wouldn't work so well, would it?

LoveDeathPrizes · 13/09/2017 09:26

No one shags in a free period. At best, you might do a bit of PPA and have a wank in the stationery cupboard but that's about all you'd have time for.

2rebecca · 13/09/2017 09:34

Another one enjoying this thread more than the series. I don't want her sitting stuffing herself with ice cream on the sofa but her behaviour is so silly you emotionally unengage from the programme. I presumed she was mid 40s due to being a GP with a teenage kid. Most people with careers aren't in a rush to have babies. Agree young folk aren't as in to night clubs as my generation were in the 80s and a small town night club wouldn't open midweek. Also estate agents often talk to each other and word would get round that she was divorced and her ex was wasting their time.
Agre Simon is too pantomime baddy

LoveDeathPrizes · 13/09/2017 09:39

Anna wouldn't be up with Neil's involvement with this at all. Why the hell is she on Gemma's side after she shagged her husband and then tried to sabotage their marriage?

LoveDeathPrizes · 13/09/2017 09:40

And why the extended dance sequence with Max?

Oh my god. That was so cringy (cringey?)! I was cringing all the way through that, but when she was lolloping on the sofa chugging wine, with that 15 year old CHILD I nearly cringed myself inside out.
I'm only just beginning to uncringe now.

SJ was 37 in series 1 so two years on makes her now 39. It was Simon's 40th when she found out about the affair so he would be 42 now.

Just watched series one back!

Pastacube · 13/09/2017 10:03

i was just reading that Neil is the son of the woman who used to be in the liver birds Grin

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 13/09/2017 10:09

I'm giving up, I've wasted too many hours watching disappointing tv dramas. I don't care about anyone in it, they all deserve each other. Simon likes the mind games and oneupmanship as much as she does, they're all so awful.

Shame, the first series started so well and I was wanting Gemma to come out well then that went a bit daft and now it's totally ridiculous.

Maudlinmaud · 13/09/2017 10:10

People seriously. Enough about the woman's looks and age. I sometimes read the feminist board, and it has obviously made an impact because I'm not liking these comments. They kick ass on that board btw so be careful Grin
This series is just warming up, can I remind you of how fantastic Gemma really is Bitch is right. And I'm a WOLF tonight
There done Grin
