Dr Foster is back on Tuesday

I vaguely remember this. Can someone jog my memory please? Also how did it end ?

OP posts:
DurhamDurham · 06/09/2017 16:17

Margot I hadn't considered the LSD influence Grin

Clawdy · 06/09/2017 16:35

Suranne's hair really annoyed me. Either tie it all back or wear it loose, that limp hank over one side of her face looks awful.

Beingrippedoff · 06/09/2017 16:47

I thought it was actually a good portrayal of what can happen when a husband runs off with new woman, starts new family and is basically pretty unscathed by the whole thing. But ex wife left unable to trust anyone, alone etc.
He's basically got away with the whole thing and I can only hope that he will get his comeuppance as the series progresses. I think they've deliberately chosen a very average looking actor to emphasise how unfair it all is the Gemma. I'm looking forward to her kicking his butt properly this time

2rebecca · 06/09/2017 17:03

Why should he get his comeuppance though? He moved away from his town for 2 years (although for most educated people that's normal) and hasn't seen his son for 2 years.
There are plenty of people whose second marriages are happier than their first and many of those started through affairs.
It is a very religious view of marriage which is odd in an increasingly secular society.
If he'd gambled away all their money (I think he was a fraudster too but can't remember) people wouldn't expect eternal misery, but have an affair and you should be eternally doomed even if the person you have an affair with is someone you are better suited to.
It does sound as though none of us should get married and we should just have boyfriends as people are much more forgiving of people ditching one boyfriend or girlfriend for another than adultery which still brings forth very old testament views.

PandorasXbox · 06/09/2017 17:09

It's not about the fact he committed adultery. He lied for two years plus, was manipulative, knocked her unconscious, has tried to turn their son against her and is now generally rubbing her face in the fact he's got a swish new house, young attractive wife and they're living right on her doorstep.

I doubt there's many that would forgive that tbh.

fertilitykate · 06/09/2017 17:18

But you have to move on. If you don't, that way madness lies.

Life isnt fair and sometimes people do shitty things but it doesn't mean we have carte blanche to punish them eternally. Move on.

Loopytiles · 06/09/2017 17:19

He has seen his son in the two years, just not frequently.

Loopytiles · 06/09/2017 17:20

Am suspicious about where he got all the cash.

2rebecca · 06/09/2017 17:27

I thought he was fairly wealthy before and good at parting people from their money and her parents were wealthy.
It won't be a believable reason whatever it is. Just like it's unbelievable Gemma stayed in a practice with the odious Roz surrounded by her ex's friends, especially with the shortage of GPs. It's all very silly.
I'd have liked a follow up Dr Foster that was unconnected to the first story line with her somewhere else.

TeeBee · 06/09/2017 17:31

So what does everyone think is in the gift? My guess is a rape alarm...just to sow the seeds of doubt.

TheSassyAssassin · 06/09/2017 17:34

But neither will let the other move on will they? And that, in some cases, can be true to RL. They both push each other's buttons (obviously in an extreme way as it's tv) and their need for revenge / control is all consuming. It's not pretty but it is human emotion in the extreme and means their respective fictional therapists can afford posh cars and holidays!.

I don't think they will be able to do a third series though - feels like the unfinished business will have to finish this time!

NikiBarbie · 06/09/2017 17:39

She should have listened to Jack the alcoholic gp.

Take her son and leave. That way she wouldnt have to see this.

I get the feeling Gemma is lonely though. Didnt have many friends.

SonicBoomBoom · 06/09/2017 17:45

Just HOW big is Simon's cock that she could feel it through his trousers from 2 feet away?

Aaaaaah, so that's what she sees in the smarmy git.

Pile. Of. Shite.

Disappointed.

CoraPirbright · 06/09/2017 17:47

Are we going to see the dishy lawyer-with-the-brain-tumour again? I thought he was fab and it would be a glimmer of hope if the docs had managed to halt the progression of the growth.

WHY on earth would the teacher want to see her again?? After that whole debacle, most normal men would be running for the hills!!

DooWhaaDiddy · 06/09/2017 17:48

Just watched it, not sure what to think of that!

anotherniceday · 06/09/2017 17:58

Why should he get his comeuppance though?

He lied and cheated on his wife for over two years, to the point it affected her sanity.
He cheated with friend's daughter. He gets to do the seedy old man/younger woman bit, but she gets with a teacher and is made to feel (by him and the son) that's she's screwing around and should be ashamed Hmm.
He effectively dumped his son to start a brand, shiny, new family with the young OW. .
(only wants his son in his life now, to get back at his ex)
His ex and their son has to live in a pokey property in comparison to the mansion with a pool, that his new child gets to live in.
He's turning their friends against her.
He's trying to drive her out of town.
He's patronising in a 'calm down dear' way.

Yep, I don't care how crazy Gemma gets, I want him to get his comeuppance.

NikiBarbie · 06/09/2017 18:07

Dont forget spending all her money and living off her and mortgaging the house and using the savings.

I want Kate to get her comeuppance too.

She sneered at Gemma for being arrogant and made digs at her for being crazy and old. Old ffs Angry

Kate needs some humiliation or is humility? Either will do.

I want Kate to realize she just created a vacancy for another woman and she is just the next one to get the shit treatment.

anotherniceday · 06/09/2017 18:13

I want Kate to get her comeuppance too.

Yes,
Right from Series one, you get the impression she's a spoilt little brat who's used to getting what she wants, even if it involves destroying the lives of another woman and her child.

KittyMcAllister · 06/09/2017 19:12

Wonderfully enjoyable trash.

Does no-one else think the teacher boyf could be a set-up (by Ros or ex)? As pp have said, most normal men would run for the hills given that first date scenario. Maybe he's being paid or otherwise persuaded to string her along or get ammunition as part of some elaborate revenge.

MrsFring · 06/09/2017 19:15

Remember how much they mentioned Simons inability to swim and his fear of water? The mega-house has an indoor pool, the camera kept going back to it. That's where Simon will end up, you mark my words.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/09/2017 19:17

It's a pile of steaming.....
So, apparently Suranne is an assistant producer. Shame - I thought she had an excuse - it was an acting job. Actors can't afford to turn down many jobs.
Perhaps it's for people who don't want the oldbrain cells put to much use when watching tv.
Dumbing down.
Melodramatic.

ktel1 · 06/09/2017 19:27

I haven't read through all of the posts yet but I just wanted to say what a mess that episode was.

All of the reviews I've read have been positive.

I feel like I watched a different program.

I quite enjoyed series 1, it wasn't great and I thought it promised a lot more than it delivered in the end but it was watchable.

This episode however was toe curlingly bad. I was cringing at the dialogue and plot.

Everything felt disjointed, the music was intrusive and far too loud and the actions of the characters weren't believable.

Figgygal · 06/09/2017 20:29

Oh banana no don't ruin Bertie for me

NikiBarbie · 06/09/2017 20:47

Gemma has obviously failed to notice that everyone took Simon's side in the affair. The friends concealed it for 2 years, and his financial issues. Did Gemma really think they would be loyal to her and would never talk to him again when they grew up with him in that town.

Kate neednt be so smug about it all. Calling Gemma old. Her youth might be an issue. She is only 9 years older than her step son. So when she is Gemmas age she will have a 30 year old step son and a husband who is pushing 60.

Putkettleonlove · 06/09/2017 20:47

As a GP myself I lost all faith in the plot when she agreed to date a patient and later pissed off mid Surgery after a rather unconfidential patient consultation in the waiting room to confront Simon/OW about the bitch flowers...I barely have time to fart during my working day let alone stalk any exes. I think I'll just enjoy the melodrama as a glorious pile of trashy TV to wind down to!
