Liking it.
Casting excellent.

I like the books. The casting is good.

Cooroo · 27/08/2017 22:07

I like the steady pace and fairly low key approach, though OH fell asleep.

whyhastherumgone · 27/08/2017 22:08

Casting seems spot on so far - just catching up on Iplayer. His office is exactly as I imagined as well.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/08/2017 22:09

Haven't read the books. Enjoyed this epiosode. Love Tom Burke.

Clawdy · 27/08/2017 22:12

Tom Burke is perfect as Strike. Holliday Grainger is good, but seems to be in everything at the moment.

The80sweregreat · 27/08/2017 22:17

Robin is much more humble in the books. A good egg!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 27/08/2017 22:17

I didn't like Tom for Strike when I heard he'd been cast, He didn't look like the Strike I'd pictured when reading the books but I'm happy that I was wrong. I really liked this tonight, can't wait for pt2 tomorrow.

Thurlow · 27/08/2017 22:18

Really enjoyed it, very true to the feel of the books. Tom Burke is excellent. But I am slightly biased where Tom Burke is involved Wink

RiverTam · 27/08/2017 22:21

Oh, do people think he's well cast? He's not how I imagined Strike at all! Physically he doesn't seem anything like imposing enough, and too good looking.

But I did enjoy it.

The80sweregreat · 27/08/2017 22:24

Tom does t have 'pubic hair ' on his head, as described in the books!
He is also smaller than i imagined.
Still, not a bad attempt. I feel his pain when he has to walk everywhere!

littlemissneela · 27/08/2017 22:26

Loved it! I pictured Strike as someone much older, but that wouldn't work with the Strike/Robin thing. I loved the books, and am just loving this series. The music is wonderful as well.

So just in case your aren't sure, I rather liked it Grin

Xmasbaby11 · 27/08/2017 22:26

Everyone is better looking than they were in the book, but that's to be expected!

I really enjoyed it and thought the pace was good.

whyhastherumgone · 27/08/2017 22:27

Yes Robin seems more confident and sure of herself in the tv show - unless I'm misremembering. For some reason I had her in my head as being more timid at the beginning but could be wrong...

The80sweregreat · 27/08/2017 22:29

She isn't as confident at first, she grows into her role by book 3 I think. Matthew was well cast, I hate him.

whyhastherumgone · 27/08/2017 22:34

haha me too @The80sweregreat - from the moment he appeared on the screen

TizzyDongue · 27/08/2017 22:35

I liked it - wondering if Robin's relationship will be sacrificed in the tv adaption.

Didn't realise it was on tomorrow - thought it was a Sunday thing.

MistyKnightsTwistout · 27/08/2017 22:43

We loved it but having read the books and watched musketeers wondered if they'd out Tom in a fatsuit! He was so slight in musketeers. They did a good job of making him look imposing. But it was really good, beautifully done. Can't wait for the next one!

whyhastherumgone · 27/08/2017 22:59

Hmm I'm not so sure now I've seen the whole episode. I liked the casting, the vibe, the character dynamic between Strike and Robin...

I liked the setting and how it all started but it seems like it's deviating quite a bit from the book - with Rochelle for example - which I don't have a problem with if it's done well but it felt a bit disjointed to me? Don't want to give anything away for those that haven't read the books, although it seems they might be taking the plot in a different direction anyway...

Will be tuning in again though.

RidingWindhorses · 27/08/2017 23:00

I thought it was terrible. Shock

Pedestrian. Wooden. No suspense.

After scandi noir and Spiral this was toecurling.

Timeandtune · 27/08/2017 23:05

I loved it and loved the books too.Thought all the casting was excellent.
Hope they film all the books.

RidingWindhorses · 27/08/2017 23:06

Not forgetting the script. Shock

MaroonPencil · 27/08/2017 23:51

I enjoyed it, and I won't say no to a chance to watch Tom Burke, but he is really too young and handsome to play Strike as described in the books. I am just taking the TV show Strike to be a different character from the book one, in my head!

HelenaDove · 28/08/2017 00:30

Havent read the Strike books. But enjoying this. What happened to Strikes mum? Didnt quite catch what the Martin Shaw character said in the restaurant.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 28/08/2017 08:32

I enjoyed it.

The bit when she nearly went backwards down the stairs !!Shock

The80sweregreat · 28/08/2017 08:47

Strikes mum died when he was about 18. It's hinted it was a drug overdose. She was a groupie , Johnny rokeby is strikes dad and he is a rich rock star, but he has disowned strike and didn't believe he was his son ( he is) strike has a few half brothers and sisters. My image of his dad is a kind of mick jagger type in a famous band.
