Liking it.
Casting excellent.

Think there just hasn't been much focus on him. Might get nasty this episode.

Hepzibar · 17/09/2017 21:43

Book Matt irritated me immensely and I didn't have much sympathy fit him.
Can feel more sympathy for TV Matt is, as you say Maroon

Losing it with tonight's episode- it's a bit clumsy and I'm a bit bored.

That said, I love Tom B as Cormoran, loving him!

Is the editor's house the tardis?

MaroonPencil · 17/09/2017 22:04

Next year?! I thought they would be doing all three books now Sad

wowfudge · 17/09/2017 23:33

We've really enjoyed Strike so far. The characters are really well drawn, it's well scripted and the chemistry between the two leads is great.

HelenaDove · 18/09/2017 02:29

Oblomov I agree I like my men to look a bit "lived in"

The80sweregreat · 18/09/2017 13:41

I dont recall Matthew doing the ironing in any of the books! lol
all he seems to do is disapprove of Strike , moan about the money she earns and generally be a bit of a misery towards her.
Al ( Strike' half brother in he restaurant) was well cast, just as i imagined him.
shame book 3 isnt until next year though, its a much better story then book 2.

PinkBuffalo · 18/09/2017 15:30

I thought I misheard last night when they said next year!
I did spend some time thinking Matt was Tyger Drew Honey though.

MissBabbs · 21/09/2017 20:23

It's feels a bit staged to me. Street scenes don't look quite natural. Considering all you need is some passersby and the odd car something is amiss that these don't look real. Is it because JK is producing? I also think some continuity is wrong. A bit inexcusable in this day and age.

I've been watchin Netflix and Sky series and this comes over as unconvincing though the leads are good if a bit charicatured. The smokers don't smoke like smokers.

You can't leave that hanging...we need examples!

Am now enjoying reading the first book, even though I know who dunnit.

MissBabbs · 23/09/2017 08:04

Haha, can't think of much but when Robin was drinking her pint of cider, it would cut away just as she put it to her lips, to a back view, then front view again and she put it down. Then again wobbly raise, then cut, then front view as she put it down. I watched because it looked wobbly and I wondered if it would spill.
When she was following Andrew there was a tall blonde woman between them, this woman was so much in shot I was thinking hmmm, is she going to attack Andrew, is she a Russian Spy, but no she was a general member of the public, dressed in non appropriate clothes and fiddling nervously with her cuff. Then the written work stuck on the gravestone. I don't think sellotape would stick to granite.
When they went into the dinner that the writers/ book people were eating the door swung open as they passed through, then was closed in the next shot of it.
I also found the speech unclear quite often and they seemed to be entering doorways all the time, are people always in through the day? I don't know how this is normally handled in drama but once I'd noticed things it distracted me from the plot.
I heard someone on the radio say that BBC drama stems from the theatre whereas American drama stems from the cinema.

i'm enjoying it, i haven't read the books (huge potter fan, couldn't bear to have my love of JK R tarnished by not liking her adult fiction). Also a huge jonathan creek fan and don't mind a bit of midsummer. Morse is my gold standard for crime drama though.

I like Strike although the dynamic between Robin and her BF is wince-worthy, I've only watched the first 3. The character of Strike is as fresh and interesting a detective as I've seen in recent years on TV.

I agree though, that kind of central london, down at heel quirky environs hasn't existed since at least the late 90s, too much money sloshing about, the comment about him setting up in a ground floor in Peckham these days is more likely!

RhiannonOHara · 25/09/2017 16:26

I lost the thread of the last episode of Silkworm. It was pretty confusing and I'm a bit dim; all those characters with grudges and history.

I also didn't really think

SPOILER

it was that believable that the agent woman would kill him in such a gruesome way. She was portrayed at first as quite hard-bitten and mean. Then in the restaurant scene when she breaks down and tells Strike he asks too much of people and tells him he's cruel, she seemed so genuinely vulnerable and wobbly. I couldn't reconcile that with the idea of her disembowelling him. Not to mention taking the innards home for her dog!

fascicle · 25/09/2017 18:30

MissBabbs Didn't notice the drinks; was also wondering about the woman near the graveyard (but then I think it's ok to play around with viewers' suspicions); agree with the sellotape - gaffer tape needed.

Rhiannon re: your SPOILER comment - there was a marked change of demeanor, but I thought that was a tactic so that he might leave her alone.

Hepzibar · 25/09/2017 21:29

Autumnleaves I am a huge Potter fan also. I was not disappointed with any of JKR's adult fiction. Loved The Casual Vacancy and all the Cormeron Strike books.

good to know hepzibar, I shall have to check it out. Just watched ep 1 of silkworm, other than not understanding why Robin is stringing it out with her fiancee, the poor man, I'm enjoying it.

RhiannonOHara · 26/09/2017 12:33

fascicle, yes, maybe she was acting. He did seem remorseful and kept apologising for upsetting her.

Madeyemoodysmum · 29/09/2017 21:16

Just catching up with the silkworm
Really enjoying and find myself lusting over strike massively which is odd as he isn't my type at all.

If I was robin jd dump the boy and jump the man.

Autumnleaves7 · 30/09/2017 11:08

How long do we have to wait for any more of these? And what are people watching now? There's a detective drama shaped hole in my life!
