Liking it.
Casting excellent.

Doesn't take much to smoke you guys out eh?

Stop playing the victims, the poor mes.

Poor us, being told we're dim, pity us because we are the picked upon.

Grow up lads - it just makes you look more like what you're claiming you're not.

RhiannonOHara · 15/09/2017 12:34

OK, no more engaging with futuristic. Nasty post.

MsGameandWatching · 15/09/2017 12:56

We get it you don't like it, you don't get it, you think it's simplistic. Personally I think some of the programmes you describe as being intelligent viewing are cliched, dull and derivative. I don't try to imply that people are dim for enjoying them. What's wrong with you that you need to do that?

TizzyDongue · 15/09/2017 12:59

One thing it's easy to detect: futuristic1 is actively and passionately consumed by her dislike of JK Rowling.

ShoesHaveSouls · 15/09/2017 13:01

Are you feeling quite well, futuristic? Maybe go and get some fresh air...? Wink

PinkBuffalo · 15/09/2017 14:35

Just come back to this thread and it's gone a bit Shock
Shoes I am loving strike (haven't read the books) and I love Midsomer as well! And what I've seen of father brown, I enjoy that too! And miss marple etc... But to be honest, I am not super clever like a lot of people on here, so I'll just enjoy it quietly Grin

PinkBuffalo · 15/09/2017 14:38

Talking of disabilities, as someone who was born with complete cleft lip, it's really nice to see someone on prime time with the same facial feature! I was really pleased!

RhiannonOHara · 15/09/2017 16:28

As a bit of an aside, has anyone else noticed that Tom B as Strike occasionally pronounces a long 'a' in words like 'bastard', in a kind of south-west/Norfolk way? Is that a feature of his own accent (I think he's from Kent) or some detail of the character from the books?

Notonthestairs · 15/09/2017 16:47

Strike was brought up in a squat in London and then had a few years in Cornwall so his accent should be a bit all over the place.
I enjoyed the books. Tom B a bit too attractive in my opinion, It's not necessarily a bad thing (!) but Strike is supposed to be enormous and pug ugly.
I've only watched one episode so far, I will be watching the others. The third book was def the best of them and the darkest story line.

RhiannonOHara · 15/09/2017 16:50

Oh, that's interesting. I wonder if he is going for the odd Cornish sound. It is very very sporadic, though and otherwise I think he sounds generically 'southern'/'London'.

I think Tom has bulked up for this part; he was much more svelte (and hot!) in The Musketeers.

Dillite2 · 15/09/2017 18:33

A question to those of you who think that Tom B is too attractive and someone uglier should have been used- who would have you preferred?

RonWeasleysWilly · 15/09/2017 18:46

In case no-one else has mentioned it...

In the book someone (forget who) says that Leonora looks like Rose West. In the TV version she's played by Monica Dolan, who previously played Rose West in 'Appropriate Adult'.

RonWeasleysWilly · 15/09/2017 18:48

And to join the ongoing argument: not wuite what I was expecting but still an enjoyable watch. Apart from the dead gutted author bit.

Notonthestairs · 15/09/2017 19:19

Well he's described as looking like Bill Beaumont (rugby player) so that's how I visualised him. No idea of any actors that resemble BB!
Am I over invested?! Probably!

MsGameandWatching · 15/09/2017 19:34

I think Tom B is perfect 😍

MaroonPencil · 15/09/2017 20:50

While he doesn't look anything like the novel Strike, I would not have preferred anyone else as I am very happy to watch Tom B Grin.

Oblomov17 · 15/09/2017 21:12

Loving TB in his coat! And think his filling out is fab, because he was a bit too slim in Musketeers, at one point.

Loving 'Rose west'. She was cast perfectly.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/09/2017 22:58

I think his accent is Cornish mixed with SE London.

Notonthestairs · 16/09/2017 00:31

I've caught up with episodes 2 and 3 finally. No TB was not my idea of Strike. He is now. Love Holiday Granger as Robyn.

Just caught up with last weeks.

JK needs to get writing faster-can't bear the thought of not having a Strike fix on a Sunday evening Grin

Walnutwhiplash · 16/09/2017 22:36

I'm enjoying this in the same way I enjoyed Lucky Man - great actors, great camera work, London looks gorgeous, all hugely watchable notwithstanding the ropy plot/writing. As an armchair critic I find it really interesting just how much lavish production is able to lift a very average script.

fascicle · 17/09/2017 10:46

I disagree on the writing, Walnut. I think it is very good - completely natural dialogue between main characters, with greater eloquence/formality of speech from characters in the literary/publishing world.

RhiannonOHara · 17/09/2017 12:36

And think his filling out is fab, because he was a bit too slim in Musketeers, at one point.

Ooh no, I loved how svelte he was in The Musketeers.

MaroonPencil · 17/09/2017 21:15

Anyone else think TV!Matt is more sympathetic than Book!Matt?

Also, that he looks like Tyger Drew Honey?
