CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 6 "BEYOND THE WALL"

Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. There is a spoiler thread running here if you want to talk about production leaks and insider information as well

As a little warm up for later, HBO have just released a little teaser for tonight's episode here

*more not notebook!!!

SheStoodInTheStorm · 22/08/2017 18:16

Where has the lone wolf thing come from?

McTufty · 22/08/2017 18:18

Sansa said that the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.

MyOtherProfile · 22/08/2017 18:27

Given that Sansa hasn't killed anyone yet,
She has though, hasn't she?

Trills · 22/08/2017 18:29

Sansa killed Ramsey. Using dogs. It was rather memorable.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 18:32

In book 1 after Arya and Sansa have a big argument in King's Landing, Ned says to Arya "When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives".

The quote has never appeared before in the show but Sansa says it in the season trailer.

Trills · 22/08/2017 18:33

It could be interpreted as
1 - wolves need to stick together, they don't do well on their own
2 - it doesn't matter if one dies as long as there is continuity of the family/pack

MyOtherProfile · 22/08/2017 18:33

Yes. Although I guess killing Ramsey would be very different from killing her own sister.

No thanks spammer, I only accept job offers from people who know how to do links.

Trills · 22/08/2017 18:37

Of course killing her abuser is different to killing her sister, I was just agreeing that she HAS killed.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 18:39

Poison is a woman's weapon. In the books Sansa still has that hairnet with the strangler beads used to kill Joffrey. I think she'll use that to off Littlefinger eventually.

MyOtherProfile · 22/08/2017 18:47

Sorry Trills... wasn't disagreeing with you. Was just thinking about what the previous poster said about how sansa hadn't killed anyone, when she has, then thinking that Ramsey is a different kettle of fish from Arya.

Trills · 22/08/2017 18:51

Oh very definitely!

I don't think we'll see any Stark-on-Stark violence.

aayla · 22/08/2017 18:53

I think that Sansa is a lot stronger and smarter than Arya suspects and that will backfire on her. She thinks that she's dealing with 'Princess Sansa.'

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 19:01

Sansa's whole story is about her becoming more intelligent and scheming than Littlefinger but not showing it. In the books, Dontos more or less tells her 'if everyone thinks you're stupid, no one will ever see you as a threat and so act stupid to protect yourself'.

The problem is that there have been very few opportunities for show Sansa to demonstrate that she is as smart as Littlefinger, or even that she knows what he's really up to, as we can't see her internal thoughts. In the books it's pretty clear that he's not fooling her.

ElenaGreco123 · 22/08/2017 19:11

Arya Yes, I thought of Arya being found with Needle in his hand when spring comes. Who knows really?
Cool new name.

crazymissdaisy · 22/08/2017 19:30

ooh I've just watched a youtube vid which points out a really intriguing detail: when the camera focuses on the hole in the ice where Jon was dragged underwater, Longclaw is lying beside the hole on the ice, the wolf's head pommel has its eyes closed! BUT as Jon heaves himself up out of the icy water, they snap open! Why???

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 19:36

crazymissdaisy we've been talking about that on the leaks thread and there aren't any other theories other than WTF happened to Ghost?

Elena hopefully my girl Arya will sort her head out soon and I can change my username back! I might have to think of a completely new one otherwise.

juneybean · 22/08/2017 19:41

Found an explanation that bran might have been inside the sword

OlennasWimple · 22/08/2017 19:43

crazy - the Reddit conclusion is that that was just a droplet of water on the wolf head pommel

OP posts:
aayla · 22/08/2017 19:43

Jon is linked to the mormonts somehow. That conversation with Jorah about Longclaw was significant I think.

OlennasWimple · 22/08/2017 19:44

Arya - I'm contemplating a namechange too, now that the Queen of Thorns has gone

OP posts:
crazymissdaisy · 22/08/2017 19:46

oh I see, a water droplet? That's a bit disappointing! (I've been avoiding the spoilers thread). I was hoping it meant another resurrection from the icy waters or something. Or that longclaw was magic.

OlennasWimple · 22/08/2017 19:47

aayla - the Mormonts have always been one of the most loyal bannermen to the Starks, including in recent times with little Lyanna (who was named for Ned Stark's sister / Jon's mother). Their joint history goes back many many years
