The trailer looks good but I've not seen the first series, will it be easy to watch without having seen it?

OP posts:
SnickersWasAHorse · 29/07/2017 17:49

I didn't watch the first series but enough was explained that I could understand what was happening.

Found it all rather dull and predictable I'm afraid to say.

Firstaidnovice · 29/07/2017 18:33

Should I watch season 1 before season 2? I'm keen to watch, DH less so, I'm suspecting this might be one I end up watching on my own....

EllaHen · 29/07/2017 19:44

No, don't think you need to watch season 1. Dh is watching season 2 with me but didn't watch season 1. He wouldn't have had me pausing and ranting quite so much if I hadn't seen season 1.

We'll probably watch episodes 4 and 5 tonight.

I'm up for a 'now we've all finished the whole series, let's talk about it' thread. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/07/2017 19:56

I'm on the last one now!

Ulysses · 29/07/2017 22:33

Finished it. It was very absorbing but quite unsatisfactory. Lots of discussion points but wouldn't want to spoil it.

QueenoftheAndals · 29/07/2017 22:43

Onto episode 4 and enjoying it but fucking hell, Mary is an annoying bint and I want to slap some sense into her!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/07/2017 01:03

We're "just going to watch a little bit" of the last episode according to dh... having watched episodes 3, 4 and 5 back to back.

fairgame84 · 30/07/2017 09:57

I've got some questions about episode 6.
Is everyone caught up? I don't want to spoil it for others.

AnyFucker · 30/07/2017 09:59

Nooooo

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/07/2017 10:00

Start a new thread. I've finished now.

MsGameandWatching · 30/07/2017 15:30

I'm quite enjoying it - on episode three.

Mary reminds me of Judd Apatow's daughter who he has cast a couple of times. I wonder if it's more shouty confidence than actual acting talent because their parent is The Boss?

I know this is a dark programme and scenes set accordingly but I am finding Australia coming across as a very grim place as represented in this, both in attitude and appearance.

AnyFucker · 30/07/2017 15:50

That was my experience of Australia, Ms

And Bondi Beach was just as underwhelming as portrayed here

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/07/2017 15:52

I have never been but always had the suspicion it was similar to how it was portrayed. I've never been in a hurry to go tbh Grin

MaximumChocolateNeeded · 30/07/2017 17:35

I'm delving into Series two tonight, if I can get my little fuckers kids to bed Grin

InigoTaran · 30/07/2017 19:07

Please can pp who have seen the whole series start another thread or this will get so messed up? Apologies if someone has already done so! Smile

arsenicistheanswer · 30/07/2017 19:15

Sat down to watch the first episode and have an early night last night, but accidentally watched the first three. BlushWine

fairgame84 · 30/07/2017 19:26

inigo

This is the new thread for those that have finished watching.

AnyFucker · 30/07/2017 19:28

Thanks, fair

I still have 5+6 to watch

gingeristhenewblack43 · 30/07/2017 19:53

I binge watched the last series after a colleague recommended it. It did not make me want to visit NZ. Very grim but compulsive viewing, and the same with this series. I don't enjoy watching it but can't seem to stop myself.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/07/2017 22:32

We have just finished the last episode. I'll hop over to the other thread...

IdentifiesAsYoda · 31/07/2017 11:28

I couldn't watch. The vile misogyny does nothing to dispel the stereotype of Aussie men being misogynist. It's interesting, because it would not be so overt in a British Production, so I'm wondering if this is in any way reflective of what's real, or whether our dramas do a better PR job

I loved the first series...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2017 13:32

The vile misogyny does nothing to dispel the stereotype of Aussie men being misogynist I don't think it's meant to dispel it, I imagine it's meant to high light it.

IdentifiesAsYoda · 31/07/2017 14:23

Dame

I didn't phrase it that well, what I meant was - is it just a stereotype, or is it real? I'm trying to be delicate about Australian men!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2017 14:38

I have a feeling this is very real tbh!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2017 14:41

I remember a thread on here a few years ago from someone who had moved out there for her husband's work and was appalled at the casual sexism she encountered and she got absolutely flamed even though many people in the same boat agreed with her.
