THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 2 "STORMBORN"

Come and discuss the second episode in the penultimate series, airing July 24th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6

HBO description of the episode: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episode and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones Smile

I don't think the grey scale thing is that off the wall, Shireen was cured so not the first. The maesters don't want to be in a position where they have to treat something that is highly infectious so the treatment is outlawed. I was properly gritting my teeth in sympathy for Jorah.

Actually I think the Maesters are a bit shit and don't want all the books public so people realise the truth!

So frustrating that Jon leaves just as Arya heads back.

yumyumpoppycat · 25/07/2017 07:55

Totally agree about theo in Reek mode he has PTSD, which is actually pretty realistic. I think he will try to rescue her though, but on his own terms when he has built up to it.

Buscake · 25/07/2017 08:03

pinyata I'm pretty certain littlefinger does know about jons parentage. In the last season he is at winterfell in the crypt (I think) and Sansa is talking to him about Lyanna or Jon (my memory is shite) and there is definitely a knowing look from Baelish. Wish I could be more specific but I just can't remember accurately Confused

Some living people are going to have to know so that it can be revealed anyway

ElspethFlashman · 25/07/2017 08:05

Yeah he looked like he couldn't even talk up on the deck, it was very well done.

The only annoying thing was that it would have been perfectly rational to jump overboard at that moment, he had no hope of saving Yara and would just have been running into a sword. It could have been portrayed as a strategic retreat.

Instead it apparently was all about showing Theon has made no progress from Reek. I don't expect him to be cured or anything but I'd like some hint it could happen.

Cos if he's still Reek he's only of limited use in the story to come. He was able to help Sansa whilst Reek but it took a lot out of him and there's no evidence he could ever help anyone again.

I haven't a clue where they're going with this character tbh. Maybe he'll join the Nights Watch?

RJnomore1 · 25/07/2017 08:06

Truth be told I think the maesters are very self serving and won't do anything which exposes them to risk.

WeDoNotSow · 25/07/2017 08:06

So I'm guessing the series has fucked Quaithe off then? Could have had a few dream scenes or something?

EllaHen · 25/07/2017 08:06

Did anyone else shout 'Woof!' when Euron jumped off his drawbridge? Just me then.

I think you are right about the Maesters Yumyum. Back in the day, before the printing press was invented and most folk were illiterate, priests were generally the only people who could read and heralded much power.

ElspethFlashman · 25/07/2017 08:07

Little fingers accent drives me insane!

It's not even Aidan Gillens real Irish accent! He sounds pure Darby O'Gill! WTF is he doing?

iklboo · 25/07/2017 08:09

We play the 'What accent will Aiden Gilles be doing today' game.

nigelsbigface · 25/07/2017 08:12

I think they said the grayscale treatment was outlawed because the maester that first tried it contracted it himself in the course of treating the patient?

AdalindSchade · 25/07/2017 08:13

Quaith was in series one wasn't she?
Maybe the showrunners found out the point of her and decided to expedite that plot point without her

SootSprite · 25/07/2017 08:28

Isn't Tyene the sand snake that had a flirt going on with Bronn? Maybe he might save her or something? Get Jamie to step in?
Ellaria is dead woman walking though.

I do hope Theon tries to save Yara but I imagine she's well fucked off with him right now, she looked so betrayed (and a bit pathetic, I thought Ironborn were supposed to be quite hardy? She came across more damsel in distress, all wide-eyed and confused looking).

BroomstickOfLove · 25/07/2017 08:31

While I would like to think that Theron will recover, redeem himself and find happiness, i suspect that narrative convention dooms him to sacrifice himself to atone for what his betrayals.

I worry about future heirs to the iron throne. Dany can't have any more children, and there really doesn't seem to be any suitable woman for Jon to marry to create a stable alliance.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 08:32

How is Tyrion going to get his Unsullied/Dothraki to Casterly Rock.

He has three options:

  • By boat. This means having to sail halfway around Westeros and past Euron's fleet as well as the Reach's. Do they even have any boats left?
  • By land - marching straight down the Gold Road. This means marching a force of 'foreign invaders' across Westeros and hoping there's no little accidents along the way.
  • By GoT miraculous 'no questions asked' teleportation.

I'm going with option 3.

iklboo · 25/07/2017 08:38

Euron looked like Rufus Hound on PCP last night. It was a bit jarring he was so OTT panto baddie.

It amuses me that D&D decided not to give Euron the eye-patch he has in the book because they thought it would be too naff and 'pants-pirate' (to paraphrase).

Instead, they have him acting like one.

I think Alfie Allen gave a stunning performance.

Dlpdep · 25/07/2017 08:59

Who is at Casterly Rock right now? Is it Bronn?

SootSprite · 25/07/2017 09:01

And EllaHen, you were not the only one thinking Woof! 🤣

Middleoftheroad · 25/07/2017 09:03

Yumyum I do think Theon will save Yara - and himself in the process.

How did Shireen contract greyscale as a baby?

I too shouted 'woof' when Euron rocked up. But I do love a villain. How I yearn for Joff and Ramsay.

Middleoftheroad · 25/07/2017 09:05

Wondering what Littlefinger is plotting while Jon's away? I think it will end in Arya turning up just in time. I want to see her with Brienne again rathet than Sansa, to observe the dynamic.

Fiderer · 25/07/2017 09:22

Middle I think someone gave Shireen a doll contaminated with greyscale shortly after she was born.

maggiso · 25/07/2017 09:22

I thought Broon was with Jamie when they rode towards the smoking Kings Landing following Cirsies pyrotechnics?

maggiso · 25/07/2017 09:23

Bron!

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 09:33

In the show, does Brienne know that Oathkeeper was forged from Ice?

Do Jon/Sansa know that Brienne is carrying what remains of the sword stolen from Ned Stark?

I think Brienne should behead Littlfefinger on the orders of Sansa using Oathkeeper and then offer the sword back.

ElspethFlashman · 25/07/2017 12:27

I think Alfie Allen gave a stunning performance

He's so committed, I'm in awe. Has he ever been nominated for anything? I must check.
