SPOILERS ALERT

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 2 "STORMBORN"

Come and discuss the second episode in the penultimate series, airing July 24th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6

HBO description of the episode: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episode and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones Smile

Omg amazing. GrinGrinGrin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/07/2017 17:35

*in the books Cersei's Master of Ships, a dodgy character called Aurane Waters, has pretty much buggered off with all her fleet and is making alliances elsewhere. The crown is pretty broke and has few forces it could send to Dragonstone. An alliance with an Iron Born fleet would make strategic sense in the short term.

Dany being able to land on Dragonstone in the books makes sense if their is a Tyrell/Targ alliance as the Tyrells have taken Dragonstone from Stannis (albeit in the name of the crown in the loosest sense).*

Thank you, Arya! I have actually read the books but the details have now got all mixed up in my head.

Is Westeros that big? In my head it's the size of the UK, being based on the Wars of the Roses etc, and sailing around the UK wouldn't take that long. And Dragonstone isn't far from King's Landing at all. It would be like sailing from Norwich to, say, Liverpool (Casterly Rock is about Liverpool in terms of the map of Westeros). A week at sea?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/07/2017 17:36

In fact, if the Wall is Hadrian's Wall, then Westeros is essentially the size of England and Wales, which would help explain why people can travel across it so quickly.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 17:40

I think Westeros is the size of South America. From what I remember, the edge of the New Gift is something like 150 miles from the wall.

Here is the map I always use:

quartermaester.info

I'm reckoning a good couple of months at sea, but I'm not sure.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 17:57

Just looked at another map which says the Gold Road (King's Landing to Lannisport) is 750 miles. I reckon it must be about 3000 miles by sea from Dragonstone to Casterly Rock.

Wobblebeans · 25/07/2017 18:55

I'm sure this has been asked already, but is there any way to watch Thronecast on now tv?

NotYoonique · 25/07/2017 19:11

Yes there is, you can watch it live on Monday night or I expect it will be on the catch up

Wobblebeans · 25/07/2017 19:25

Ah, I've got it. Thanks! Smile

Sleepthief84 · 25/07/2017 19:46

Ooh I love Thronecast! Started watching it last season. Sue Perkins is so funny and hey always have good guests.

OlennasWimple · 25/07/2017 20:23

I've found this site with decent shots of the book that Sam was using during the procedure to remove the greyscale. The recipe for the ointment is pine resin (antibacterial), elder twig bark (anti-inflammatory), beeswax and olive oil (emollients). So fairly basic pharmacy, and no dragon glass Confused Hmm

There was a nod to the glass candles in one of the books that Sam was looking at last week, when he found the reference to all that dragonglass under Dragonstone. I wonder if that was the fan service bit done and there will be no more Quaithe now

Wohoo.. I am so happy to see so many GOT lovers here. I am one among you who stays up at 2 am to watch the show.
I hope to join the discussions after the next episode.

honeyroar · 26/07/2017 14:16

I was just thinking, is it likely that Hodor and Bran's wolf (and even the children of the forest) will now be white walkers?

FanwankTheAbsurd · 26/07/2017 15:01

Wight Hodor, oh my god I never thought of that. I'd properly be in bits if they did that 😭😭😭

BelaLugosisShed · 26/07/2017 16:08

Undead Hodor is a possibility but Summer and the children should have gone up in flames when the main Cotf set off her grenade in a fab Aliens homage.

DesertIslandPenguin · 26/07/2017 18:20

I was quite disappointed with the special recipe for the ointment, too. Maybe it's all in the technique! The Arch-Maester will be rather peeved to come in the next morning and see a fully recovered Jorah...

I expect Sam to spent the rest of this series in a cell being monitored for infection. I'm sure he could have found a pair of gloves!!

I found the battle at the end very hard to follow as it was so dark. Thank you to whoever posted the picture showing what/who was hanging off the ship as I missed that!

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 26/07/2017 18:52

I'm sure Sam had gloves on?

OlennasWimple · 26/07/2017 19:00

Sam had gloves on (but no mask - and I'm not sure I would have swigged from the flask of rum that I had jsut passed to the very infectious patient I was there to treat....)

This really tickled meGrin

DesertIslandPenguin · 26/07/2017 19:42

Well spotted @OlennasWimple !! I must have closed my eyes against the yuck factor before seeing them.

AryaUnderfoot · 26/07/2017 19:46

Given the fact that the Tyrion's-companion-gets-greyscale-and-brings-it-to-Westeros bit is the only part of the entire fAegon storyline that's been included in the show, I'll be pretty disappointed if Sam is able to just cure it that simply with no re-infection/spreading. It will be a really pointless waste of air-time in an already shortened series.

Why was Davos, who served Stannis for years, not aware that Dragonstone was built on a mountain of dragonglass? Did he suffer from very bad amnesia?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/07/2017 21:32

Picture here of Jorah's letter. Unrequited love and greyscale, poor sod.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 26/07/2017 21:59

Oo, thanks for that gasp!

yumyumpoppycat · 26/07/2017 22:02

Ok now.... there has been a very long winter ...don't blame davos...he doesn't even have fingertips ffs.

Sam drank from the skin THEN handed it over. tsk ;)

Mustang27 · 26/07/2017 22:32

Davos can do no wrong lol.

Oh well done Gas, what a shitey suck up letter though. Mills and Boon crap!!! Clearly he is brain damaged already Hmm.

I thought he had something gritty to say.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/07/2017 12:26

Proves he was going to kill himself as suggested by Maester Broadbent, though.
