HBO description of the episode: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

It was definitely root and stem in the book but in the series I associate the phrase with varys.... Might be getting muddled. I'll have a Google.

WeDoNotSow · 24/07/2017 22:30

Also, I got a bit annoyed with melisandre's reasoning of why Jon is important. Sure talk about him letting wildlings south of the wall, but don't mention the fat that he has returned from the fricking dead

AdalindSchade · 24/07/2017 22:32

Missandei and grey worm haven't shagged yet and it's definitely both balls! That was a weird dream

ClashCityRocker · 24/07/2017 22:38

Google suggests you are correct adelind I must stop eating cheese before bed...

Did they not shag after the battle in which barristan selmy was killed? I'm sure I remember having this debate at the time...

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 24/07/2017 22:39

Root and stem - It is known.

Makes me spend a lot of time wondering about testosterone production in tech unsullied, cause they certainly don't have the more eunuch-y feminine look about them.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/07/2017 22:40

I think it was more a case of Grey Worm pleasuring Missandei the last time. This time it looked more mutual.

gincamelbak · 24/07/2017 22:43

I am getting a bit frustrated with Jon Snow regally leading by surprise. You know, goes on about the horrible army of the dead advancing on winterfell and how he needs to convince the Dragon queen to let them mine her current home

Then BOOM! Surprise Sansa! You'll be in charge of the north (with the terrifying zombie army on its way) while I pop off down south for a bit.

DH has just remarked that Thronecast is Sky Sports News for dragons.

I hope Theon has his flippers on and paddles quickly behind Capt Euron Flashheart. I did let out an involuntary YAAAAARRR! When that drawbridge thong came crashing down.

I'm glad Sam did get a message to Jon about the dragonglass. I was fearful he would be busy with the books and forget to write. And good Sporner work too.

I've given up guessing what is going to happen next. Piracy, murder and maybe Littlefinger finally picking an accent...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/07/2017 22:43

Well, a woman who trained and trained as the Unsullied do would look pretty muscular. Eunuchs who trained a lot would be more muscular than women. have been reading too many trans threads recently Eunuchs are frequently described as soft in historical fiction, but I expect many would have lived quite sedentary lives.

ElenaGreco123 · 24/07/2017 22:49

Sam is not meant to support Dany. People keep telling him to practice archery, so he'll probably kill a dragon. Also he is related to the Hightowers, Lords of Oldtown - seat of the Maesters. The Maesters always hated dragons and probably poisoned the last ones.

The Tarlys OTOH are Targaryen loyalists.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 24/07/2017 23:00

DH suggests that Theon will bump into Gendry who will hoist him into his boat with his Popeye like arms...

Mustang27 · 24/07/2017 23:01

I think melisandre chose not to mention that to Dany as Jon allowing the wildlings through the wall and bringing the people together would appeal more to Dany's style of ruling, as in they have the same kind of agenda. Seriously though that's a pretty big thing not to mention and was surprised.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 24/07/2017 23:18

Just watched the first two Thronecasts. Surprised by how good it was - never watched before and I was expecting it to be a bit pants but it's got some real spark to it.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 24/07/2017 23:26

Is Randel Tarly Cat's brother?

honeyroar · 24/07/2017 23:34

Aww, poor Theon - what exactly did those of you who are angry with him expect him to do? All he would've achieved by attacking would his own death, not saving his sister.

Loved the Ayra scene. It so was Nymeria and I think she'll be back, but she's like her mistress, you don't tell her what to do, and she's some baggage from the past!

Sansa is annoying me. Something about her I don't like, despite all the awful things she's been throught, that slightly spoilt little girl who always wanted her own way and didn't like Jon seems to be still there deep down. My husband laughed at how quickly she shut up once she was told she was in charge. Perhaps Ayra will snap her out of it if she gets there. Jon is always on a mission and always gets backs up!

gincamelbak · 24/07/2017 23:34

No, she was a Tully

I think GRRMartin started to run out if names. I got confused about Missandei and Melissandre for a while. Blush

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 24/07/2017 23:35

Those dragon skulls under King's Landing were fucking cool, though! I liked the echo in that scene of the Predator line "If it can bleed, it can die"

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 24/07/2017 23:36

gin Ah yes! They're too similar, I was quite confused for a while there Grin

Lemond1fficult · 24/07/2017 23:46

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar There are historical cases of eunuchs not conforming to the soft and overweight stereotype; The ottomans had an army of conquered and converted Christian children called Janissaries, who were raised to be much-feared warriors.

It's also thought that eunuchs in the seraglio were only partially castrated, so they could pleasure but not impregnate the cloistered women.

maggiso · 24/07/2017 23:47

Isn't Randal Tarly Sams father?

RJnomore1 · 25/07/2017 00:04

Yes he is Maggi.

I didn't think the jannisary were castrated just sworn not to marry until they left the service?

Ontheboardwalk · 25/07/2017 01:08

I saw Ayra's 'that's not you' to Nymeria as a throwback like when Ned said she would marry a Lord and she said 'that's not me'. Same as the Littlefinger/Ned/Jon throttling scene.

Nymeria won't settle for going back to live at Winterfell. Ayra and her wolf army to take over the seven kingdoms.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 06:56

In the books the slave master who discusses the Unsullied with Dany tells her that they have everything removed. He even goes as far as to say that some eunuch soldiers just have their balls cut off but the Unsullied do not.

He says that this leads to them being less muscular and strong but this is made up for in their discipline. They are also fed Shade of the Evening which stains their lips blue (same thing with book Euron) and keeps them under control. They are basically stripped of all identity and desires.

The book unsullied come from all different races of Essos and range in appearance from very dark-skinned to almost albino.

The unsullied are the 'perfect' army as they simply do their masters bidding in terms of overpowering the opposing forces but don't then go around plundering their riches and raping their women.

AryaUnderfoot · 25/07/2017 07:09

I am a bit underwhelmed by the citadel plot. The cure for greyscale seems ridiculously simple. Also, no mention of a link between greyscale and grey plague.

I'd like to have seen at least some of the intrigue in the citadel. No glass candles, no faceless men, no great conspiracies, no Sand Snake!

Middleoftheroad · 25/07/2017 07:18

I interpreted the Theon scene that he went back into Reek mode. Watched it several times now and he looks at the violence, sees somebody getting a tongue chopped out and is reminded of Ramsay chopping him up, root but not stem.

Theon jumps out of fear, not to save Yara, is my thinking. I think Thronescast pointed out he was already in Reek mode when pouring drinks below deck (not a euphemism for Grey Worm's actions).

Why didn't Hotpie tell Arya that Sansa is at Winterfell? surely it's common knowledge?

Middleoftheroad · 25/07/2017 07:27

Sorry stem not root for Theon.
