SPOILERS ALERT

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 2 "STORMBORN"

Come and discuss the second episode in the penultimate series, airing July 24th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6

HBO description of the episode: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episode and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones Smile

Btw the amount people were saying "Tyrion is great" almost merited a new drinking game. [hmm

Tyrion is suddenly looking kinda old btw.

Not just Ellaria, they have her daughter too. The perfect gift for Cersei. She can get her revenge for Myrcella in the best/worst way possible.

Something that amuses me about the Greyworm/Missandei scene is all the people on YouTube who have no idea why they'd bother having sex. What could be in it for Greyworm without a penis? What could be in it for her? Even when they saw how the scene ended... It makes me feel sorry for their present/future sexual partners Grin

BraveBear · 24/07/2017 17:38

This may not be the last we see of Nymeria. She had the "just in the nick of time" scene in season one when she saved Arya from Joffrey. I can't think of the right term but this show loves to repeat or revisit early lines/scenes, like Arya's line to Nymeria and Jon getting Littlefinger by the neck like Ned did. They do that a lot actually. So I think it's possible we could see Nymeria save Arya again.

NotYoonique · 24/07/2017 17:38

Did anyone else not find it odd that Hot Pie didn't ask about Gendry?

DispatchReady · 24/07/2017 18:37

AdalindSchade thanks I really thought it was Ellaria up there. So is the other sandsnake (the one who did have short hair but now has it bobbed!) still alive? Think I need to rewatch as the battle scene was really confusing and dark on my tv.

I laughed at the Greyworm/Missandei scene just because of that weird onsie outfit he was wearing! What was that?! I also giggled when Tyrion said about invading Casterley Rock and he and Dany looked at each other and I thought they were going to high five!

And the greyscale - I love a bit of sporn but that was a bit much even for me!

Does anyone else watch more than once? Blush

BraveBear · 24/07/2017 18:49

Yes, that's her daughter. They were both captured. I just hope the inevitable nastiness Cersei dishes out is left to the imagination like with Septa Unella...

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 18:52

Dispatch I think Tyene and Ellaria are the ones alive (probably not for long) and captured. Obama and Nym are dead. Nym was the one hanging from her whip from the prow of the ship. Good riddance - they are the most pointless characters in the show series.

I'm watching again tonight when DH gets home. I think I'll go and make a coffee when the Missandei/Grey worm scene comes on....

AdalindSchade · 24/07/2017 18:52

I watch twice. I looked away in the grey scale scene though Envy

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 18:53

Autocorrect changed Obara to Obama for some reason.

nigelsbigface · 24/07/2017 19:00

I really like Greyworm... didn't they say once in an earlier season that he still had a penis just no balls, or am I confusing him with Varys in that respect?

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2017 19:10

Apparently there was a surge of people looking up "eunuch" online last night Grin

Sorry posting here about an episode 1 point but figured no one on that thread now. I have one question from last week that has been bugging my friend and we are still not sure we have the full answer.

When the Hound spoke to Berick Dundarion he mentioned that he's known good men but they've been "hung from a cross-beam, beheaded, or shat themselves to death in a field somewhere". The first must be the Ian McShane Septon, the second is Ned Stark, and the third.... Who is the third? Do you think this is generic or someone in particular - this web page suggests generic but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts? movies.stackexchange.com/questions/76502/who-is-the-third-man-that-sandor-clegane-is-referring-to

Thanks.

DispatchReady · 24/07/2017 19:38

Thanks for clearing that up! Agree they were pointless characters, hence why I couldn't remember their names!

youngestisapsycho · 24/07/2017 19:43

I think Theon jumped as he knew Yara wouldn't be killed but he would.... least alive he can get help maybe/ let Danerys know what happened?

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 24/07/2017 19:52

Could it just be referring to the many many men who died fighting in the many many wars?
What with the bodies likeliness to empty it's bowels at the moment of death?

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 24/07/2017 20:01

I don't see how Theon had much of a choice? If he had've tried something, Euron would have slit Yara's throat.
And I find Euron a bit yawny, pyschoboy Bolton version twobot.
Really thought for a moment that Nymeria was going to be the end for Arya. That would've been one up on Ned Stark's beheading.
But Nymeria not going with Arya was quite satisfying, she did drive her away and it would have been a bit naff if now wild direwolf had have just gone 'oh yeah I remember you, lets hang!

Middleoftheroad · 24/07/2017 20:04

Jorah links Lady Mormont and Dany. If any convincing is needed maybe.

So Sam and his horrible father Lord Tarly will be on different sides. I will get great satisfaction if Sam gets revenge - like Tywin and his father.

Does Hot Pie equal a nod to Gendry at all? Laughed on youtube review that Hot Pie was boring Arya with the same boring speech about baking as he did Brienne. Arya's reference to her recent pie baking made me chuckle.

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2017 20:14

summer - I wonder if it's an oblique reference to the books where Dany gets the squit when she is wandering alone in the grass plains...?

"Shat themselves to death in a field somewhere" is probably some bastardisation of Septon Meribald's memorable Broken Man speech in A Feast for Crows. Ian McShane's character was 'loosely' based on him. Part of his speech talked about soldiers on the battlefield 'shitting in their breeches from drinking bad water".

The episode where the Hound returned in season 6 was called The Broken Man.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/07/2017 20:46

Squee! Just watched! Somewhat distracted because the Sand Snake left plays Mia in a fairy cartoon called Mia and Me that DD adores. Better make doubly sure she doesn't get out of bed at the wrong moment next week!

FX Nymeria follows Arya home and reappears suddenly to save her life/eat Littlefinger.

Why the fuck did Jon not warn Sansa of Littlefinger's designs on her?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 24/07/2017 20:47

I really thought that was Yara hanging. Are we sure it isn't?

Sleepthief84 · 24/07/2017 20:54

No, I'm sure it was the first two sand snakes that were killed. One stabbed and one strangled/hung.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 24/07/2017 20:55

Thank you! Grin Ok, that's a whip. I'm convinced.

Just watched that ComicCon link - if Davos shows up at Dragonstone and finds Melisandre there, what's he going to do? We've been cunningly reminded about Shireen too, just to be sure no one was forgetting!
