SPOILERS ALERT

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 2 "STORMBORN"

Come and discuss the second episode in the penultimate series, airing July 24th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6

HBO description of the episode: "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episode and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones Smile

How were Euron's 'Ironborn' able to distinguish themselves from Yara's 'Ironborn' in the middle of the night in a flaming battle?

Are they all on first name terms?

Were they wearing special 'Team Dany' stickers?

How did they not see any of Euron's fleet coming. They're not exactly inconspicuous.

Great battle though. Glad to see the back of the sand snakes.

MyDressIsBold · 24/07/2017 11:18

Thank Christ Qyburn has seen The Hobbit so they can just shoot those tricksy dragons right out of the sky.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 11:30

Thank Christ Qyburn has seen The Hobbit

Love it - I was thinking the same thing myself.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 24/07/2017 11:34

I was hoping for zombie dragon when he took cersei down there Grin

BraveBear · 24/07/2017 12:57

"That's not you" is a throwback to when Ned Stark told Arya she'd marry a Lord and run his castle and she said "No, that's not me." And being an obedient pet is not Nymeria. But not for the first time this season I felt they could have made it a little bit clearer.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 13:09

There has been criticism for years that there has been a distinct lack of direworlves in the series and an ignoring their importance to the Stark kids. The scene seemed a bit too much like fan-service and a bit of 'too little too late'.

Sadly, I can't see them adding any more direwolf scenes to the show. The whole 'wolf pack in the Riverlands' storyline seemed very tied up with Lady Stoneheart in the books and I don't think they can make any more of it now.

I'd loved to be proved wrong,.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 13:17

So to summarise Littlefinger:

S3-5 "Keep everyone guessing, never tell anyone what you want so that your actions cannot be predicted and thus prevented".

S7 "After having pimped her to Ramsey Snow I would very much like to fck your sister, just like I wanted to fck your evil step-monster. That's alright isn't it King Jon?"

Are we supposed to buy this?

DispatchReady · 24/07/2017 13:35

Just watched...still feel like some of the dialogue is a bit off but fast moving episode.

Was that Ellaria and Yara hanging off the ship?

I took the "that's not you" comment to mean that Nymeria isn't going to meekly follow Arya like a pet...like Arya herself. Made me laugh when Hotpie said they were the same - both survivors! Errr...don't think you're in the same league Hotpie Grin

Where is Ghost? Still at Castle Black! Thought we might see Bran this week or at least a raven from there to tell Jon his brother is there!

Whoever asked about Thronecast, it's on after the 9pm showing on Mondays, you'll get last week's on catch up though - I think it's quite funny!

AdalindSchade · 24/07/2017 13:59

It was the other two sand snakes. Ellaria and yara are still alive and captured

ElenaGreco123 · 24/07/2017 14:13

Yara will obviously be given to one of Euron's commanders as a reward or even Euron himself.

Ellaria will most likely fall prey to Qyburn once Cersei has her.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 14:18

In the books didn't Euron marry Asha off to one of his loyal men and have a walrus stand in for her during the ceremony? Maybe he'll do that. Maybe he'll marry her to a walrus...

AdalindSchade · 24/07/2017 14:50

Yara might get married off but she will then murder the bloke and then murder euron I reckon
Ellaria on the other hand is toast

SootSprite · 24/07/2017 14:54

I'm hoping Yara is somehow saved, but I want cowardly bastard Theon to die horribly (though he will probably survive somehow).

Ellaria will be Euron's gift to Cersei. She won't survive.

I did love the way Grey Worm and Missandei got together. I didn't understand the Arya/Nymeria line until it was explained. Very nice.

Can't wait for Arya to get oop north and (hopefully) kill Littlefinger.

nigelsbigface · 24/07/2017 14:55

Oh good call
Bravebear and all other pp's. bit sad now as I really wanted a nice Nymeria/arya/ghost/John reunion.

Tormundsbrow · 24/07/2017 15:33

What does everyone make of Jorahs purpose? Is he there for Samwel story line or his own?

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 15:47

Tormund there is a different book character - Jon Connington - who has arrived in Westeros with grayscale. There are lots of different theories about how greyscale may have more significance to the story and maybe the fight against the others. The wildlings believe children who get it as infants are cursed - Val (wildling woman not int the show) really dislikes Shireen.

In the show I think it isn't significant that Jorah has greyscale. The importance will be to Sam. Jorah's purpose will be for something else - not related to his greyscale. Hopefully it will make some sense.

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2017 15:48

i thought the Missendei / Greyworm scene was an excuse for gratuitous nudity TBH (I think most of the major actresses now have no nudity clauses in their contracts, eg Emilia Clarke isn't going to do the same sort of scenes as she did in the early seasons, so they are looking to the minor characters to get their tits out instead...)

I was underwhelmed by the Arya / Nymeria reunion. If that's all they do with it, I would rather that they hadn't bothered and spent the CGI money on Ghost instead (who has been conspicuously absent for some time now)

I think Jorah will be partially cured, so his life will be prolonged beyond the 6 months diagnosed by the archmaester. This will allow him to get back to Dany and then sacrifice himself later in this season (or next), both because he needs some kind of final redemption but also because he recognises that his greyscale is returning

Tormundsbrow · 24/07/2017 15:55

I see, so they're using Jorah to cut out another character?

I was wondering if Sam would get caught, kicked out and returned to Jon with the books from the restricted library etc.

I thought Jorah may have been used because of the nights watch link, which would give Sam the push to go further for him?

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2017 16:02

I FF'd through the Missendei / Greyworm scene. I fail to give a shit about either character and seeing their nips and arses won't change that!

I also FF'd through the battle. It was hard to see who was who and it was just Flame Squelch Flame Squelch. I stopped at the Theon scene. I know he has PTSD but I was hoping he might do something. Mind you, it would have been pointless - Euron was just going to cut him down anyway.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 16:04

Sam's purpose this season seems to be to discover the blindingly obvious about Westeros.

Hasn't anyone told the librarian that you can tell what books are on the shelves if the spine is pointing out?

He'd probably just reply 'ook'.

The citadel is starting to feel a bit like the Unseen University.

AryaUnderfoot · 24/07/2017 16:07

I FF'd the Missandei/Grey Worm scene too. They've done 'Unsullied have feelings' in previous seasons and there was no need to rub it in (horrible image springs to mind) any further.

Just gratuitous boob count notch-up.

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2017 16:19

Lol at "ook" Grin

Tormund - there's a whole, pretty big storyline that has been cut out of the books and they have given parts of it to other characters, so Jorah has the Jon Connington greyscale story (but the show has overtaken it now in terms of how far advanced the disease has got). It works well, though, because of the NW link and as another way to bring together Jon and Dany

AdalindSchade · 24/07/2017 16:37

I love missandei and grey worm but they really didn't need her tits and ass in that scene
She does have amazing boobs though

NotYoonique · 24/07/2017 16:49

The Arya and Nymeria scene makes me really emotional and I can't quite work out why

ElspethFlashman · 24/07/2017 16:57

I think because it was the first glimpse of someone with a heart underneath AryaBot. She used to be a great wee lass, and now she's this killing machine. I'm hoping she finds her soul again in Winterfell.

However I suspect she and Sansa will just encourage each other's hardness.
