Just watching the night garden for the first time and come to the conclusion it is the Teletubbies the 2000's! Upsy Daisy = Dipsy, the little one with the scooter is Po, and the blue on is Tinky Winky!

Anyone know what happened to YOHO AHOY?
We loved that .

ruty · 27/03/2007 13:45

ds loves it. Only tv we have now is that at 6.20. Winds him down and slow moving and sweet. Great.

SueBaroo · 27/03/2007 15:30

Polka Dot Shorts was insane

'Mother of Bear, will this madness never end?!'

Blinking hilarious..

OrmIrian · 27/03/2007 15:33

Yay! SueBaroo remembers it too!! Loved it...

ruty · 27/03/2007 15:39

re night garden ds 2.6 loves the website too. very dreamlike. we've only watched it three times on TV`and he's already singing all the songs. I think it is genius.

Marina · 27/03/2007 15:50

DD loves it and I will gladly ship her off to you any time JanH - in the spirit of gift exchange after you posted that extremely interesting article.
tbh I struggle with the aesthetics of Ragdoll's output - hated Tots TV and Rosie and Jim, never really warmed to the Teletubbies.
But I can see the soothing charm of this latest offering, once you accept its bonkers lack of storyline. The colours are beautiful and both of mine are transfixed by it - in different ways
I loved Yoho Ahoy too! Ridiculously funny.

puddle · 27/03/2007 16:00

My two (a huge seven year old and a four year old)are both transfixed by this and it has become a treat to be allowed to watch it after supper.

I think it is quite magical and very lovely to watch - reminded me of the Jumblies and other nonsense from Edward Lear.

Marina · 27/03/2007 16:17

That is exactly it - very Edward Lear.

NeuroticMum · 27/03/2007 19:23

ds 2 and a half is absolutely transfixed by it, ive never seen him so trance like - it's scary.

SueBaroo · 27/03/2007 19:30

lack of storyline? Today everyone went for a ride in the Pinky-ponk, and nobody noticed the ponty-pines getting onboard. Then there was a bit of a groovy dance to round out the day, and everyone went to bed. Sounds like the story line to most of my Tuesdays.

#yes my name is iggle piggle...#

loobylooby · 27/03/2007 19:34

My daughter says that the blue pontypines live next door to the red ones - believed her having not watched it before! Very strange but very Anne Wood (Tellytubbies and Booh Bahs, as well as Rosie & Jim etc)

kiskidee · 27/03/2007 19:46

it does my nut in.

ruty · 27/03/2007 19:56

i don't quite understand how the characters are obviously much bigger than the ninky nog and the plinky plonk [?] but then suddenly are reduced to small enough to get inside.

DeputyMacDawg · 27/03/2007 20:04

I'm the one transfixed by it in my house.

dd usually off throwing toys

Blackduck · 27/03/2007 20:07

I HATE it - why is it on at 6.45 - it is for babies NOT small children.....! (DS auditioned for it, but didn't make it - bt no sour grapes here ) He loves it...

hotandbothered · 27/03/2007 20:12

We hate it - dd (3.5) said 'I don't like this Mummy. Please can we turn off the TV?' She never says that!

Blackduck · 27/03/2007 20:15

Actually think it makes the Teletubbies look deeply intellectual....

justamum · 27/03/2007 22:20

Ruty, I am so glad you said that, it has been really bugging me too, one mintue they are enormous and the next tiny. The bit that had me in stitches the other day was when the girl puppet thing pulled her "cord" to cheer up the little blue man thing and her skirt flew up revealing her spotty knickers; to me she will always be "floozydaisy" although DS tells me that is not her name.
It doesn't bug me as much as all the plot inconsistencies in Me Too but that is a totally separate thread

LowFatMilkshake · 27/03/2007 22:33

x-posts about 50%

But when I caught DD wa0cthing this and DS(3mnths) showing an interest in it, rather than battng at his baby gym I was horrified - I have never seen a show more geared at merchandise with a capital 'M' in my life!
At least Teletubbies started out as literature!

Back to Nick Jr we go!

snowleopard · 27/03/2007 22:36

I adore it, I've been waiting for this thread! I love the way it's so nutty and unexplained and they all mysteriously change size. I really love the music and the start and end sequences with the boat and the starry sky - there's something primeval and deeply moving about that bit. Me and DP's favourites are the ponty pines - so small that "even though there's 10 of them, they're hardly there at all" - genius, and Derek Jacobi is fab. Don't like Upsy Daisy or Iggle Piggle much though - they seem like the most normal and boring part of it.

I sit there transfixed while DS plays with his trains, draws and studiously makes stuff with stickle bricks, pausing only to check out the telly briefly when the Pinky Ponk (flying machine thing) makes that farty noise.

It's great. You're all philistines.

MrsGumby · 27/03/2007 22:37

My DS (3) and DD (9 months) love this show. Really embarrassed about admitting this (going through an emotional time at the mo') but I started welling up when I heard the music tonight...think it reminds me of the Mr Men theme tune from happier, bygone times!!!

mishw · 27/03/2007 22:42

DD1 (3yrs) loves it but I thinks its terrible, however it is marginally better than Me Too - does anyone else want to kill Granny sodding Murray and the rest of them? Same DD keeps asking me which way to go to work!!!!!

SueBaroo · 27/03/2007 22:59

I'm no Philistine, I love it.

Me Too, however, brings me out in hives. What was that rubbish story line about the male nurse wearing a hideous cheapo earring to 'hint' to the doctor that he had a friend who was a jeweller for no discernable reason at all?

Give me Macka Packa anyday. Jumping up and down cos he's too small to see out of the window on the Pinky Ponk. Genius.

wanders off muttering

thethirdwiseeasterbunny · 27/03/2007 23:20

Ds loves this programme and so do me and dh I want a ninky nonk style caravan

maximummummy · 27/03/2007 23:24

YUCK I HATE THIS SHOW !!! unfortunatly my two year old likes it . . . .
