they, i love this thread too.
we don't need to be educated really on a soap, they normally do social issues i know, but this is going too far now. The little Mo and Trevor story was about real issues, but it was well done and quite gripping. this isnt.
I think that he if he feels this strongly about it, he should make a one off documentary showing real people on benefits - i know that channel 5 make these type of shows, but maybe one with someone newly signing on, another one who has been on it for a while, someone who is on disability ( and going through the change over to the new systems)something like this.

EnidButton · 17/05/2017 12:12

Completely agree Theycalled.

They are Soap Operas because they're supposed to be a bit melodramatic. They can reflect reality and have to back everything up with facts but essentially they've always been an exaggeration of real life with far more drama than most people experience because their main purpose is to entertain. No-one watches a soap to be informed. If you gain insight into something you've not personally experienced or learn about something along the way then that's a bonus but it still has to entertain and engage. At the moment I'm getting neither of those things from EE so have stopped watching. Is he a bit dim? He can't inform viewers of anything if they've all switched off.

I really hope he goes soon. He should start his own worthy soap maybe. Broadcast it at 3am on a Wednesday so teachers can record it and play it during wet playtime on the big telly on wheels.

lazymum99 · 17/05/2017 12:39

just watched the trailer. Its full of spoilers. Don't know whether I can discuss it on here.

Need someone to make a thread decision on trailer questions.....

southeastdweller · 17/05/2017 12:47

We've been discussing the trailer spoilers on the spoilers thread.

lazymum99 · 17/05/2017 12:51

Ill have a look on there then. Don't usually but some of that stuff on the trailer is a bit ambiguous.

HateSummer · 17/05/2017 13:12

Gosh, no one needs informing these days. We're living in the Internet age, where the whole world is at our fingertips. I don't need a soap informing me about things like this! So bloody mundane!

They seem to have used a clip from every episode during the next few weeks in the trailer, because I'm recognising a scene everyday. Odd!

Oh and on the Rainbow debate: Bungle was a tell taling little shit, George reminds me of Dot and Geoffrey was about as bad as Flop from Bing. Zippy was the star of the show!

The80sweregreat · 17/05/2017 14:26

Hate, i thought that, Dee is shown on her laptop all the time - they have mobiles and what not - she just has to google the government websites and its all there about claiming on line and what to do. No need to queue up for hours ( not at first anyway!) plus, if she was really stuck, she could ask Libby..
There is a spoilers thread where the trailer has been discussed.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 17/05/2017 14:57

I know EE has an obligation to educate but its as a subtle as a sledgehammer. I was cringing at Ian's slimming club scenes. Dreadful acting from those extras too.
Meanwhile, back in the 80's, I have a very vivid memory of hating it when Rod, Jane and Freddy took up precious airtime on Rainbow, I used to launch my tommee tipee cup full of radioactive Kia Ora at them.

MyOpe · 17/05/2017 15:08

Mrs Botox very funny about Denise passing her GCSE making her the Square's only intellectual Grin.

And also Jack. Like a pit bull terrier with a boil on his balls. He is also a bit dim His dim shoutyness gets on my nerves.

The80sweregreat · 17/05/2017 15:16

Considering Jack the plank was once a Police officer , he seems to have little idea about how to behave! Always in trouble, has broken the law himself, seems to not know much. he is very irritating.
The children are lovely though!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 17/05/2017 15:18

I forgot Jack was a copper. So have the writers it seems!

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 17/05/2017 16:49

I don't think these current plots would be so hated if there was a main storyline to go along with them, but it's like the show is full of subplots and nothing else.

youarenotkiddingme · 17/05/2017 17:05

Well the soap taught me how to cook fishgingers. I'd never have worked out to put them on tray and out in over without fishfinger cam.
Shame they only had one baked bean to go with them Wink

HateSummer · 17/05/2017 17:22

youare 😂😂 fishgingers: Max's speciality!

The80sweregreat · 17/05/2017 18:18

Fishgingers! Love this..
They will be called this forever more.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2017 19:22

Finally caught up with mon and tue episodes and all the posts here :)

Gawd you lot talk 😂😂

Someone said lauren is preg. Is this a spoiler shown from the trailer :(

Why was IAN the slimmest in the class?

Leader was very patronising 😡😡

Denise. Christ that woman doesn't like to help herself does she

Take the god damn vouchers. It's not charity

Did she steal the biscuits or the nice man out them in her bag?

Finally Martin and lush are friends

Poor jack

The80sweregreat · 17/05/2017 19:26

blondes, we dont know anything about Lauren. Just musings from someone who thinks it will turn into a 'triangle' as happened with Ian, cindy and wicksy years ago. agree that Dee needs to get a grip!
hope your okay and baby blondes is still being good!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2017 21:04

@80'S - all good here thanks and yes baby blondes is a very content good baby. Feel very lucky x

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/05/2017 22:18

Fishfingercam was most odd. Grin

Denise is over reacting hugely to claiming benefits until she gets a job. It's not a big deal Denise, get over yourself! It's silly that she'd rather make herself starve. Are EE trying to be ironic by running this storyline alongside Ian's overeating?

Whit has pulled her nails off. At least she can get a nannying job now without the blue claws.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/05/2017 22:19

Glad you're enjoying motherhood, Blondes Smile

southeastdweller · 17/05/2017 22:48

Just read the recent interview with the current boss. As someone who's watched EE since day one I can't believe he's saying that the show as it is now is similar to how it was under the early days Shock. He even says that Ian's diabetes story is 'classic EastEnders'!

And no Mr Producer, EE isn't about 'informing' the audience - it's about entertainment.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 17/05/2017 23:17

Christ almighty. I think soaps do a great job in raising awareness of certain issues like rape and euthanasia and bullying but do we really need to be informed about diabetes risk, universal credit and bin collections??

DameSquashalot · 18/05/2017 00:02

They go into way too much detail with the explanation. It's so patronising and makes for very unnatural conversation.

Plus are bonuses tax free?

I'm sure in the days when I was lucky enough to get a bonus it was taxable. Lauren was talking about her tax free bonus. (This was a few weeks ago).

MrsJayy · 18/05/2017 07:55

Why did Whit look in pain taking her nails off were they embedded or something?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 18/05/2017 08:15

I was concerned that she threw a pot of nail glue across the room. The Carters won't be happy when they find superglue splattered round the new kitchen.
