I was just thinking about the scene where Arnott went to see the woman who had been raped by Farmer. Did anyone else think it was all a bit off? Obviously it could just be that she didn't want to talk about it but she muttered over what had actually happened and then shouted at Arnott "look he admitted it didn't he" and stomped off. Arnott clearly thought this was odd himself and I was surprised that he didn't look further into the details of the case.

Maybe this conviction is dodgy in some way (another set up?) or relates to Ifield/Huntley/Jimmy Lakewell?

CoolCarrie · 23/04/2017 11:35

I think pp Copper and Dubious are both on to something there. Farmer might be an oddball, but I really don't think he is a murderer and rapist. I still don't get how they were able to interview him without an appropriate adult unless that is something to do with the plot.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 11:55

Yes,, that interview with the young girl was odd : it'll come up again, I reckon...

More revelations tonight!

Our Virgin box keeps scrambling stuff we record and we watch LoD on a slight delay (so Dh can watch Barcelona...)

I've already told him if the box packs up when we're watching LoD it's either kick the cat, kick the DH or LTB.

buggerthebotox · 23/04/2017 12:52

Questions, questions! It's Episode 5 nearly, and not one question has been resolved. What do we actually know? Diddly squat!

8 hours to goSmileWine.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 23/04/2017 13:14

I can't wait and before it's over tonight I know I won't be able to wait for next week, but I don't want it to be over either Grin

I've not tied up anything Blush so some more random thoughts and observations.

Maneet looked terrible as she handed over the file to Hilton, beyond uncomfortable.

Who out of Huntley and Hilton is manipulating who? Hmm
When Hilton says 'Let's go up, bring that with you' She replies 'I'm sorry. I love my husband, I love my children. I won't betray their trust. It's a moral question. Sorry'

There's also the encounter when Roz approaches Kevin Gill on his cigarette break and he says he won't be a whistle blower because 'we all know what happens to them' Although at her interview Roz then produces photos of him with Kate after which he changed his statement Confused

I'm also still puzzling over Michael Farmer, his arrest and his previous.
I don't think he's capable of the crimes he's accused of and the bit in prison with the dirty protest in his cell is still bothering me. I just watched it again, two scenes at the end of Episode 2. He looks shocked and upset at the state of his cell and the officer says 'Beast's made a right mess for himself' Farmer says he didn't do it, didn't do it. The officer says 'Beast makes a mess, Beast has to live in it' and again Farmer says he didn't do it. It ends with him slumped on the floor looking confused and upset again.

buggerthebotox · 23/04/2017 13:59

I agree with your thoughts, enrique.

Here's some of my random observations:

When Roz rang the doorbell, did Tim look out of the window briefly and see a car there? One that resembled Nick's?

Why was Hastings at the Tim murder scene?

Was Roz onto Kate from the start? What's Jodie up to? She looked very uncomfortable cautioning Hana. But why shouldn't she be expected to caution her?

Why did Hana look so calm after being run over, abducted, tied up in a burning house? Why was she interviewed straight away, before even being taken away in the ambulance? Couldn't Roz have waited?

What was Tim doing in the cafe? He looked at Hana, and harvested her fingerprint. What was he intending to do with it?

And I'm feeling uneasy about Kate. I don't know quite why. When she visited Steve in hospital, she looked worried; and she made a point of looking at the monitor. It was almost as if she didn't want him to survive! Her undercover doings were unconvincing too, I thought.

As regards Farmer, what did he mean when he said "if I do well, will I be looked after?". Who was "looking after" him? No wonder he looked upset and confused!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 23/04/2017 14:13

Steve would have let Hastings know about Ifield's death wouldn't he bugger? We don't know what they've seen or taken from his private evidence room either, prior to Roz taking over the investigation into his death.

I've never got over Hana not being a traumatized wreck post hit and abduction, let alone returning to work as a prostitute and taking on previously unknown clients. She didn't know Ifield when he went to the cafe, so if he actually was a client of hers at her flat subsequent to that meeting, then she has nerves of steel and then some.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 23/04/2017 14:14

Forgot to say, do you think Farmer meant would he be protected in prison if he did well? Is someone getting to him in there e.g. with the dirty protest, or is someone fitting him up and he's powerless to deal with it so his best hope is not to have too bad a time in there?

beargrass · 23/04/2017 14:16

I'm still puzzling as to how Roz wasn't on CCTV at Ifield's flat. It just looked like the kind of place where it would be captured - and they didn't make any enquiries about it so far as I remember

PollyPerky · 23/04/2017 15:17

so...this is currently in the Daily Fail.

It's a transcript of a TV interview with 'Steve'..

DS Arnott woke up from the fall in last Sunday's episode, but so far he's been unable to nail down what viewers already know - that Thandie Newton's character's husband Nick (Lee Ingleby) is the culprit.

beargrass- she would have been ,but she took the laptop where it would have been recorded with her

ktel1 · 23/04/2017 15:19

Pollyperky- I think that is just a badly written/clueless article- it is the DM after all

ktel1 · 23/04/2017 15:29

So my latest theories

Jimmy Lakewell gang boss

Hilton and Buckells inside men .

Maneet working undercover for Ted.

Desford was previously investigating the gang which is why Ted brought him onboard

buggerthebotox · 23/04/2017 15:32

enrique I meant that the murder of Tim wasn't any of Hastings' business.. when Roz turned up she said she was the Duty Officer, and that, as AC12, it wasn't Hastings' call. True, Steve would have alerted Hastings. Maybe because there was a potential AC angle, provided by Tim and his subsequent death?

I agree Hana must be pretty tough, and, like you say, if she could meet with Tim and others then who knows? She may well be capable of murder and amputation of fingers.

And yes, I got the idea that Farmer expected to be protected in prison if he did well, whatever that means. Saying certain things? Not sure who he's expected to be protected by, though. Does he know he's being framed?

Another thing that's still puzzling me is the planted evidence on Tim's body. Rupal said she'd done a thorough job at the first PM. She was reluctant to carry out a second but had her arm twisted by Roz. And hey presto! there was new evidence from, of all people, Tim himself at the second pm! But no-one at the subsequent meeting, seemed to question the appearance of this new evidence. Yet they were all there-Jodie, Buckells, Neil, Kate, Rupal and Roz herself.

I find it strange that all of these people seemed to accept this development without question.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 23/04/2017 15:55

bugger ah I see. I just assumed that Hastings and his team would try and muscle in anywhere seeing as they have almost carte blanche and were already involved directly with Ifield but when Jodie and Kate turn up after the Scene of Crime Officers are already present, Steve tries to stop them and says it should be handled by an external team 'if only for welfare issues' and that it's all be cleared by his gaffa. So that's the slant they were putting on it, which is a reasonably valid one. Then Neil (?) says and we've taken it up with our gaffa, as Roz arrives.

I just took it to represent the power struggle, but yes, I suppose it's unclear whether the remit of AC-12 extends beyond investigating Police actions in already existing cases i.e. taking on new cases. I don't know, not having seen previous series.

buggerthebotox · 23/04/2017 16:04

D'oh! I meant the evidence planted on Leonie's body! My mind's all over the placeGrin.

enrique that explanation makes sense.

I'm slightly Envy at you not having seen the previous series, though. You've got it all to come....wish I did. Sad

Handbaghag · 23/04/2017 16:05

Place marking for this eve

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 16:06

I've been busying myself this afternoon watching series one. Other than picking up on a definite change of location and budget increase (and noticing how young they all look!) I'm not picking up many clues.

Hilton is a slimeball - but has always been about improving crime figures...

SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN series 1 - 3:

It's funny to see Dot in hindsight. It seems so obvious that he isn't trustworthy!!

tribpot · 23/04/2017 16:53

We're at 795 messages, including this one (and not including any posted in the time it takes me to write it!)

Do we want a new thread before the episode starts?

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2017 16:54

The reason Farmer asks about being looked after is because Kate says that she'll speak to someone after the interview to make sure that they're looking after him, or something like that.

ktel1 · 23/04/2017 17:07

Tribot- sounds like a good idea regarding a new thread- I don't know what the max post capacity is ?

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2017 17:22

1000 is capacity. Do we normally get through 200 posts an episode?!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 17:23

Easily! At least very shortly afterwards!!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/04/2017 17:36

We just don't want people posting in both at once. That would get confusing!

tribpot · 23/04/2017 17:41

I think it may resolve itself anyway - I looked back to the start of this thread, which started the day before Episode 4. By Sunday evening the posting was going mad with people counting down the minutes (not to mention commenting on Antiques Roadshow!).

Then just afterwards there are (quite understandably) masses of posts about OH MY GOD WHAT JUST HAPPENED.
