I know it's been discussed before but what exactly is the freehold of the Vic? If Shirl sells is it like selling a house?! She can sell it can't she as she's the licensee?

Surely the freehold is for the building ( like a block of flats?)
She is a joint licensee so surely would need the others to agree?
With pubs the term freehold usually means it's not tied to a company/brewery,

Also you can be the licensee and not own the pub, you could just be the manager

Dp is the licensee of a pub that is in a building worth about £4million (it's not ours) if Shirl gets away with selling the Vic I'm going to encourage dp to do the same - I could do with £4mil of someone else's money Grin

Something in my hazy memory tells me that when Mick first turned up he had a holdall full of cash and bought the Vic really cheaply because Phil was desperate to sell. I may have dreamed that though.

Yeah that rings true about hold-all. I think Phil sold it to him freehold because of problems with building? Did they have cellar leak or something and Phil coughed up some cash towards repairs?

If he bought it leasehold I think Phil would still be responsible for some of the repairs?

I've even googled! And some breweries do a loan and you have to use them as sole suppliers but can often use them discounted until loans paid off.

We said this when they were first poor, they must own the building outright, in which case there is no reason they couldn't get a small mortgage in the building. Just the piece of land in that location is worth a fortune
