Ah I thought W1A was some police term!

ButtonMooooon · 28/03/2017 19:00

NotJanine me too, like AC12!!

tribpot · 28/03/2017 19:14

Sorry everyone! It never occurred to me that it sounded like a police term Grin

Summerof85 · 28/03/2017 19:45

I saw it was Methadone Mick from Still Game too! I was also wondering at the time why the camera was focusing on TN's husband's case in the boot. TN definitely knows more about the real killer....Really enjoyed it, didn't see the last series but saw the one before with Keely Hawes, not saying any more!

Alconleigh · 28/03/2017 21:33

I fear this is the season they have jumped the shark. It felt totally unbelievable.

Alconleigh · 28/03/2017 21:34

Plus the ACC being the dad from Raised by Wolves just made me think about the sheer glory of that show and my massive crush on Della, which was distracting.

bottomhangingout · 28/03/2017 22:24

The forensics stuff reminded me of an old Silent Witness ep where a forensic person plants evidence over a period of years. I think the episode was called The Wraith.... similar to this LOD but different too(!)

I think it went ott at end, but hopeful it will be explained rationally next week

Arkengarthdale · 28/03/2017 23:13

What does jump the shark mean please?

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 28/03/2017 23:18

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark

TheHiphopopotamus · 28/03/2017 23:20

'Jump the shark' refers to an episode of Happy Days where the Fonz actually jumped (or waterskiied, I believe) over a shark.

It's come to mean that when a tv show has run out ideas and has kind of entered into ridiculous or unbelievable storylines, it has 'jumped the shark'.

Personally, I'm not sure Line Of Duty is quite there yet but we'll see.

Arkengarthdale · 28/03/2017 23:29

Oh thank you!

FeralBeryl · 29/03/2017 01:54

Finally caught up Smile
Firstly, for the love of God why didn't Martin Compton brush up on his accent, he was part Aussie towards the end of season 3 but this is beyond a joke now! It's distracting me.

Tim forensic weirdo man, I think he is innocent but so frustrated he's conducting his own investigation, I agree that he thinks Hana is linked and was just evidence gathering at the cafe. He is going to fuck up by 'helping' and they'll pin the previous murder on him until another girl shows up.

Poor Michael hasn't had any luck has he, that fecking solicitor. Do you think his ex girlfriend (who he was convicted of raping) could be linked to Hana in some way?

TN's husband appears dodgy but is that a red herring for us? Why didn't he run after her with her work? phone - and was that his car outside Tim's house?

What do we think about TN's DS? Didn't get his name - Neil? Criminal beard too like DH

I knew I should have just waited and binge watched, can't bear waiting a whole week Angry

Fiderer · 29/03/2017 08:04

Disappointing, I thought. Love Adrian Dunbar but thought that episode a bit all over the place.

Possibly because I think TN is a shite actor. Watched Westworld recently where she played an AI robot. Which was probably the best she can do, being devoid of any emotion.

Wasn't she also in ER a hundred years ago? Playing some irritating sanctimonious doctor.

ElspethFlashman · 29/03/2017 09:41

TN has literally built her entire career playing sanctimonious characters. It's why she's always left me cold.

DH was distracted by her hair, which he thought was really cool. He kept admiring it so I think he has a wee crush. Grin I did like her big bun. I always wonder if it's quite sore on the roots though.

NotJanine · 29/03/2017 10:02

I wish they'd had a little known actor in the role instead. I just kept thinking, there's Thandie Newton pretending to be in the police.

I think I need to watch it again as I wasn't concentrating and missed a lot of the stuff you're all talking about!

ButtonMooooon · 29/03/2017 10:17

I am going to watch it again tomorrow as well!!! Making a mental note of things I want to watch out for!!!

Idbemonica1 · 29/03/2017 19:45

I didn't notice anything wrong with Martin Compton's accent, will be listening more closely on sunday. In fact I didn't know he was Scottish until I heard him being interviewed and thought initially what a rubbish Scottish accent he was doing...Confused

CoolCarrie · 29/03/2017 21:42

I thought it was odd that the lad didn't have an appropriate adult with him during his interview as he clearly had learning difficulties.

Summerof85 · 29/03/2017 22:26

I thought Martin Compston's accent was quite good for an English accent, considering he is from Greenock!

buggerthebotox · 30/03/2017 07:45

The "lad" was an adult though, wasn't he?

TheHiphopopotamus · 30/03/2017 08:14

An appropriate adult is called for for anyone under 18 or over 18 and classed as 'vulnerable.'

Didn't Fred West have one assigned to him, they made a drama about it iirc. I guess if Farmer had documented learning disabilities, he would have been entitled to one. (I'm not 100 percent on how it works though).

buggerthebotox · 30/03/2017 10:22

Thanks thehip. Yes, of course -Fred West! Forgotten that.

Steve said that Farmer had been diagnosed with learning difficulties at age 11, but I don't think there was any mention of it otherwise.

Kate suggested that he may not be able to drive, but I think she felt that she would blow her cover if she pursued it with Farmer whilst TN was sitting in on the interview. If Farmer doesn't/can't drive then he wouldn't be driving the car that mowed down and abducted Hana.

I have the feeling that, even if Farmer was entitled to an appropriate adult, he wouldn't get one.

Hygellig · 30/03/2017 11:26

I wonder why Martin Compston does an English accent, given that the series isn't set in any discernable location and the characters are from all over the place? (It's also one of the few programmes that has Midlands accents).

I didn't see the ending coming! It was gripping but I hope Line of Duty isn't going to go too over the top. It was more about paperwork and corruption when it started. Wouldn't Tim have checked more carefully to see if Roz was dead before deciding to be chainsaw guy? Is it so easy to bang your head on a worksurface and be instantly killed in real life?

ButtonMooooon · 30/03/2017 11:41

Dependent on how far in advance they knew where the Dot storyline was going, he framed Arnott as The Caddy as part of his accent I have no idea how far in advance they know where they're going with things!!

buggerthebotox · 30/03/2017 13:23

It's set in the Midlands, isn't it? And filmed in Belfast. Hence the Midlands accents? Ifield has one, and Vicky McClure is from Nottingham so East Mids I guess...

The Caddy had a Northernish accent (I thought) as Dot but when speaking to Hari Bains he spoke with a Southern/London accent. Maybe that's why Dot tried to frame Steve in S3 - Steve has a discernible London/South East accent. I think Compston sounds pretty plausible and I had no idea he was Scottish!
