i think in bbc's defence they have had cutbacks and have to shorten series.
I blame the govenment

BellsaRinging · 15/03/2017 07:21

Oh, thanks Soup. But why did she allow herself to be introduced as Caris to Ellen? Or did I dream that bit? Feel like I dreamt quite a lot of it tbh.

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 07:22

i wonder what the author thought of them wrapping it up like that?

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:24

Actually I think I am wrong to say Dr. Who hasn't had a female writer. They've had at least one in god knows how many episodes. God help your daughters if they fancy writing for television.

Pamela47 · 15/03/2017 07:28

Does anyone know where the Duvet cover was from as shown in the episode last night?.

BabyHamster · 15/03/2017 07:30

Also the Georgia thing was so confusing. So she hit a child with her car, she left the scene, the child died, and it turned out she was speeding. But the police decided not to prosecute because it was "an accident".

So in Scotland are you only legally culpable if you literally drive your car at someone with the intention of killing them?!

And Paula forgave Georgia but hated Kay so much she killed her and hated Ellen so much she wanted to ruin her life.

The radio times article is nearly as frustrating as the episode, everything that doesn't make sense is explained away as Paula being "mentally unstable", Ellen just had a lucky guess that Lia was in the library, and the writer hopes Paula "gets the help she needs". Ummmm. Well yes, and also goes to prison for a long time, for baby kidnapping and murder?!

Ok, I was possibly a bit overinvested in this series but it had such promise! Last night was really disappointing.

Charley50 · 15/03/2017 07:38

I thunk it's an ikea duvet. Or maybe Habitat?

Charley50 · 15/03/2017 07:40

It reminded me of a Sophie Hannah novel. not a compliment

AgentCooper · 15/03/2017 07:54

Wtf was that all about?! I think all of our theorising on here credited it with being a lot smarter than it turned out to be.

If I took 2 valium, let alone a handful, I'd never be able to drive a car, let alone hotwire one. Was that just luck that the OD didn't kill her? I noticed she was sick, that possibly helped.

And who puts a tag on a baby?! You take it out wearing that and folk would be like 'what's she done?'

We got an envelope on our doorstep on Friday saying some other series will getting filmed up here next month, so watch out for Ellen's street/gaff again!

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 07:55

no it was a lucky guess about the library, she hinted at reading to her

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 07:55

sorry, WASNT a lucky guess

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:55

I haven't bothered to read the Radio Times article.

absolutelynotfabulous · 15/03/2017 07:56

Was the ankle bracelet thingy the device for listening to Lia? Or some sort of tracking device. I remember thinking "oooh..a baby fitbit"!..

Notso · 15/03/2017 07:58

With the Georgia thing was it that Georgia who randomly happened to work with Paula hit Charis, was really upset and obviously it was an accident as she was trying to get her sick son to hospital so Paula decided to forgive her and cover it up. Which would explain the car and the hit and run article.
I still don't understand the police looking for Paula. Was it because Georgia told them what happened which would surely mean she was arrested too or was it because David decided to do really look at Paula through the glass as Ellen spent most of her working day doing. does really staring at someone in their office reveal their past crimes perhaps

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:59

Why did she hate Ellen though?

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 08:01

i think she hated Ellen because she wanted her job and she didn't love her baby enough, in her opinion

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 08:02

Ellen sent an email didnt she about Paula's husband not being around the night of Kay's murder?

carabos · 15/03/2017 08:02

The airbag/ hot wiring trick was the most ridiculous bit of the whole thing. DH asked me if I would know how to do that as he certainly doesn't. I know her character was meant to be an independent STEM type but that was just a bit Hmm, especially as she had swallowed a handful of what we assumed were sleeping tablets.

Dozer · 15/03/2017 08:03

Only saw the last episode. Lazy and sexist trope about mothers who lose children becoming psychotic and dangerous. I complained to the BBC over the baby loss/theft ronnie mitchell storyline, and this seems worse.

Plus "bad working mother" who returned to work early gets punished, then sees the light and took a career break.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/03/2017 08:05

"Why did Ian change so much."

Because he was manipulated by Paula.

"Why didn't Ellen want a paternity test?"

Because it's an insulting thing to ask for if the mother hasn't been unfaithful.

"Ellen wasn't having an affair with David, To me it was clear by her reaction."

Exactly. She didn't even know David had feelings for her until he told her.

Marzipanmodelling · 15/03/2017 08:07

Anybody else notice the baby in the end shot? I thought it showed Ellen had gone onto have another child and with David-in one way it was a better ending that she's with the nice architect than her psychotherapist!

diddl · 15/03/2017 08:07

"Anyone else fancy David, or is it just me?"

Oh no, not just you!

"Why did she hate Ellen though?"

Because Ellen had a child & didn't give up work & absolutely devote her every waking minute to said child?

TinfoilHattie · 15/03/2017 08:08

Just thinking - it's definitely not a house - people don't build £12million houses in Scotland

In the plot of the series it was a library. A bog standard one. Not that many of those are being built here either.

It's this building: www.tjl.com/lawlor-house which is a private home south of Glasgow city centre. Would imagine its value is well over a million, probably nearer 2. Not my style though, too much glass and too mabny shiny surfaces. With three kids I'd be buying shares in Windowlene.

TinfoilHattie · 15/03/2017 08:09

Just spotted it's valued at £3.5 million.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2017 08:10

But why did she allow herself to be introduced as Caris to Ellen?

I don't think she was directly introduced as Caris, just implied by Paula's comment about "meeting mine before meeting yours". It was then assumed by us and Ellen that this meant Caris.

Paula did a very good job of manipulating Ian with just the flippant comment about the affair right at the end. He did all the work making wrong connections by himself then.
