Anyone else planning on watching this three-parter that starts tonight at 9?

"Fuck off ian "
Hahahaha

GMOOH · 14/03/2017 23:35

noel your comment made me laugh

So Paula definitely killed Kay?

What the fuck was the significance of a shadowy Dougray Scott walking over in the closing scene?!

Gamtanner · 14/03/2017 23:36

I feel cheated after watching that steaming pile of shit. Overdosing woman sets off air bag with torch battery. Confused

Proper fuming about this.

over invested

GMOOH · 14/03/2017 23:41

Also yy to prev poster who mentioned fancying Dougray (except when he spat in Ellen's face - accidentally but still grim)

Hamsolo · 14/03/2017 23:46

It really didn't make a whole lot of sense did it? glad it wasn't just me thinking so.

Notfastjustfurious · 15/03/2017 00:01

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one lost by this ending. I only started watching it yesterday because everyone was saying how good it was. 1&2 maybe but that last episode was nonsense. It's Apple Tree Yard all over again with no closure and a load of questions. Me and the BBC are over.

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 05:55

also there was no need to let the air bag off as inthe end she hotwired the car and drove off. i thought at least she was going to climb out of the car Hmm

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 05:57

I must admit the first episode was pretty over dramatic
the second was better with more suspense..

NormaSmuff · 15/03/2017 06:00

i think Ellen had been having an affir which was the reason for Kay committing suicide.
dh thinks the author wrote that Ellen went to prison but changed her/his mind at the last minute

eternalopt · 15/03/2017 06:50

Watching it again, my take is :

  • Paula saw the police at the office and ran away. She knew she'd been caught out and had nothing to lose
  • when she's in the car with Ellen, she tells her she knows she can't have Leah, but she wants to make sure Ellen doesn't either, hence trying to kill her
  • she says "the sooner you go to sleep, the sooner I can take the police to where she is" so she plans to give herself up for abduction and take the police to the baby, she just wants Ellen dead too
  • when she takes the police to the library, no one expected Ellen to be there. She was just turning herself in
  • Ellen and David? Who knows, but I think not.
Notso · 15/03/2017 06:52

So many questions.
Why did Ian change so much.
Why didn't Ellen want a paternity test?
Who leaves a baby on a window sill?
Why did the police suddenly start looking for Paula?
I thought perhaps Ian used that tracker thing Paula gave him for Lia and realised somehow she had taken her but no mention of it.
What was the point of the overdose?
Why did tablets turn Ellen into MacGyver?
Why take Paula into the library to arrest her?

SoupDragon · 15/03/2017 06:56

also there was no need to let the air bag off as inthe end she hotwired the car and drove off. i thought at least she was going to climb out of the car

She did climb out of the car - she had to reconnect the battery in order to hotwire the car.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2017 07:04

I thought Ellen didn't want a paternity test because she wanted Ian to trust her.
I thought the police went after Paula because Georgia backed Ellen up
I have no idea how Ellen turned into McGyver.
I think Paula just shoved Kay to get her to shut up during sn argument about Carisand she fell through the skylight by accident
Ellen wasn't having an affair with David, To me it was clear by her reaction.
Ellen wasn't planning on being a SAHM so I'm not sure what the comments about "women know your place" are about. She said she was considering offers when talking to Vernon.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the episode was great. Apart from Ellen's obvious misspent youth stealing cars.

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:05

Ian immediately assumed Ellen had taken the baby and then with no explanation as far as I could see, the police arrest Paula.
Very weird final episode. I hated the stupid part when she bumped into Vernon and got all preachy about how looking after a child is the best thing in the world. This is what happens when the BBC commission men to write about female issues.

marmiteloversunite · 15/03/2017 07:05

And what was the relevance of the big orange bracelet thing that Paula gave Ian for the baby to wear? Looked huge. Surely no baby could wear that comfortably?

Polkadot1974 · 15/03/2017 07:05

Must check how to Hotwire a car. Clearly a life skill I'm missing...

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2017 07:07

i was actually laughing at the ending - it seemed a bit rushed and didnt make a huge amount of sense - the baby on the window sill was so ridiculous and i was practically shouting at the husband to stop being so stupid! Did Ellen have an affair with David? How come Ellen's husband could just not go to work when he felt like it to look after the baby? how come Ellen always looked so well groomed? why were they even building a library in the first place? it seemed a bit out of the way place too! Apart from Vicky mc clure's acting, it was all very OTT.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2017 07:08

The big orange remand prisoner tag was so Paula could play the sound of Leah crying to Ellen. And to keep track of the baby of an accomplished car thief.

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:10

Yes, the bracelet thing was weird. Was there a tracker on there?
Does anybody really know why Paula hated Ellen so much? That was never clear to me.

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2017 07:11

Cow, i agree, seemed another 'public service announcement 'on working women and having children! BBC are very preachy lately ( EE is the same at the moment)

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:12

If I'm honest the library was weird for me too. It just looked like a really big modern house with a few bookshelves in it.

Oblomov17 · 15/03/2017 07:14
Angry Rubbish. Am so cross. So rushed. So many answers. This about the 3rd series of BBC rubbish that I've invested hours in. And then after the final episode, I've looked at dh and he said "what was THAT"?

That Sophie Okonedo one where she went to the US for the black man dying, and her husband was the secret agent, with her son having SN's : that was the same. Rushed.

Come on BBC, this is crap!!

cowgirlsareforever · 15/03/2017 07:16

Yes, the80s The writer Joe Ahearne is perhaps best known for Dr. Who, a show which has never had a female writer. Until we see more stuff written by women on television we'll continue to see more of this bollocks.

BellsaRinging · 15/03/2017 07:16

Also...who the fuck was fake Caris? How did she manage to get a random child to act the part of her daughter?
I enjoyed this until last night and then there were just so many unanswered random bits of rubbish that I feel like that was a waste of 3 hours of my life. Although I picked up some good wardrobe pointers.

SoupDragon · 15/03/2017 07:19

FAke Caris was her neice.
