Anyone else planning on watching this three-parter that starts tonight at 9?

Snap!

SoupDragon · 09/03/2017 16:43

Yes, but I think the suggestion was that Ellen's husband was the father after an affaiR with Paula.

hippyhippyshake · 09/03/2017 16:50

You say Paula hasn't done anything but she meddled with Charis's FB page, took the photos of Ellen's baby, tipped off Georgia and I'm sure there are other suspicious things!

PrizePrawn · 09/03/2017 17:03

I can't wait til Tuesday, what am I going to do with myself? I wish there was more drama like this on telly. Another series of Dr Foster would be nice.

AgentCooper · 09/03/2017 17:10

DH thought Kay was Siobhan Redmond (Ellen's MIL) too! We used to watch her in the High Life and he was saying 'she's aged awfy well, hasn't she?' Definitely some deliberately confusing casting going on there...

Beingrippedoff · 09/03/2017 17:45

But Kay had black hair, and the MIL is a red head! They do have similar bone structure but quite easy to tell apart I think (maybe because I've seen them both in different things in the past)
Lots of v interesting theories here -? Ellen being gaslighted by her DH. However did he seem to really dislike both Paula and her dh so not convinced they have a history

DairyingLass · 09/03/2017 17:52

Team Ellen - but ...

Could the Replacement be narrated a bit like the Affair' which I've just finished watching? This three-parter shows us Ellen's point of view, then in the next three parts we will see Paula's and we will then be left to draw our own conclusions? (I think at least one of the 3 men are the baddies otherwise I'll be v disappointed with the BBC if it turns out that both Paula and Ellen are bonkers!

BabyHamster · 09/03/2017 18:16

Vicky McClure (Paula) is only 33!!! I'm shocked. They make her look much older in this.

wineusuallyhelps · 09/03/2017 18:21

Beingrippedoff black hair and red hair can be linked closely genetically. My friend has black hair and one of her children is red headed, as was her dad!

I really can't wait to find out who is the unhinged character. Or characters!

Meatycankles · 09/03/2017 19:16

I think Paula and Ellen's dh cooked this up between themselves previously. Paula wanted a baby but couldn't have one, maybe her baby died so they needed a surrogate. Maybe Georgia was asked if she'd consider it but it fell through. Then Ellen's dh meets Ellen as her psychiatrist, and identifies a potential unknowing surrogate - he groomed her, maybe he stuck a pin in a condom so she got pregnant, with the idea always being that they would undermine her psychologically until she cracked and Paula could replace Ellen in her job, and Paula and Ellen's dh could play happy families. Not sure where the other characters fit into it.
Definitely think not real SS people. If the police were really there about the photos they would have asked to speak to Ellen. The dh called them about something random so Ellen could see the police car there.

hippyhippyshake · 09/03/2017 19:21

Meaty, I like it 👍

wineusuallyhelps · 09/03/2017 19:38

Meaty you should be a scriptwriter. I'd love it if you were right!

Elendon · 09/03/2017 19:46

Ah so it's a bit of a Rosemary's Baby Meaty? It fits the narrative so far. I did wonder where I'd read this storyline before.

Summerof85 · 09/03/2017 20:47

Lucky you Agent , looks lovely!

QueenoftheAndals · 09/03/2017 20:51

I wish there was more drama like this on telly. Another series of Dr Foster would be nice.

I read that that's going to be back for another series later this year 🙌🏼

3catsandcounting · 09/03/2017 21:12

Baby - I too was shocked at Vicky McClures's age. I thought she was a well-preserved mid-40s!
Maybe it's because This is England was set a couple of decades ago??

meringue33 · 09/03/2017 21:58

Loving this.

Setting is not London and in fact Glasgow, one of the best cities there is.

Love that the "baddie" is English - of course they would be!

Love love love that the heroine is a not so young mother driving a Volvo and that there are two really strong female leads with awesome acting (what can be conveyed in a single look!) And that the plot revolves around a really commonplace issue that many women have to face - fears around maternity, career etc and also being a good enough mother.

Bit silly that they had to put a murder in it - to me it would have been interesting enough without - but anyway. Hopefully the murderer will turn out to be a man so there will be at least one dose of realism.

Very much looking forward to next week.

Cagliostro · 09/03/2017 23:44

Just watched episode 2- creepy!

BabyHamster · 10/03/2017 06:50

3cats yes, I would also have guessed mid-40s. I think it's the hairstyle! It's funny how much of an impact hair and clothing can have, the actress playing Ellen is actually older but I think looks about ten years younger than the one playing Paula.

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/03/2017 07:29

I think McClure is 33?.

I think it's the hair that makes her look older. It's quite helmetty and stiff looking.

diddl · 10/03/2017 08:16

The hair is awful, isn't it?

Although if some people can't tell Ellen's red haired MIL from her brown haired boss, I'm thinking it's so that Ellen & Paula can be differentiated for some folks!

HollySykes · 10/03/2017 08:41

Can I just remind you that whilst Paula didn't refer to her daughter by her name when she brought her into the office, she did say 'I didn't think you'd meet mine before I met yours' and asked Ellen when she was bringing the baby in. This was in front of the daughter.

BikeRunSki · 10/03/2017 08:58

"Mine" doesn't necessarily refer to "daughter" though does it? I think it's a subtle play on wirdsCould be "family", "child I look after".

neveradullmoment99 · 10/03/2017 09:29

Paula lost her baby. She can never have children. This caused her mental health issues. She stole Georgias baby because of her mental issues.
Ellens boss found out. She was trying to warn ellen because she just had a baby. Georgia did not want to speak to Ellen because of the trauma of what happened to her baby. Paula wants Ellens baby. She targets those on mat leave to feed her desire for a child.
The girl Caris is Paulas step daughter.
Thats my hypothesis.

newpup · 10/03/2017 09:43

Oh I just realised Vicky McClure was in Broadchurch!!
