Anyone else planning on watching this three-parter that starts tonight at 9?

Why did Kay ask Ellen to meet her at the library site?

SoupDragon · 08/03/2017 07:36

Leah was only at work with Ellen on that one occasion though wasn't she? She was left at home on other occasions.

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 07:36

Did Georgia corroborate the report? Missed that bit. She's obviously terrified of Paula though as soon as she got a call from her she was running away like a scared rabbit.

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 07:38

Why did Kay ask Ellen to meet her at the library site?

Kay texted though didn't she - could have been anyone using her phone. I think Paula is most definitely mentally ill, but Kay's husband is dodgy too. As is the library client.

NoelHeadbands · 08/03/2017 07:40

I liked that baby sounded really noisy whilst she was feeding, that's just what mine used to be like- I often worried they were drowning Grin

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 08/03/2017 07:43

Kay was certainly onto Paula. Hence the odd call to Ellen and Georgia's card in her handbag.

Paula has a hold of some sort over Georgia.

stonecircle · 08/03/2017 07:58

Kay texted though didn't she - could have been anyone using her phone

Kay spoke to Ellen didn't she? She sounded a bit agitated if I remember right.

BakeOffBiscuits · 08/03/2017 08:12

I think we are going to find out Paula is OK. All she has done is phone SS when she genuinely thought the baby was in danger.

All the other stuff is exaggerated in Ellen's head, because she believes Paula is a murderer.

I def think it's the men who are the bad uns!!

Optimist1 · 08/03/2017 08:24

When Ellen was told that there were two witnesses to her having left the baby for ten minutes, she deduced the second one was Georgia - this seems logical.

Yes, I think Kay did speak to Ellen about coming to the library.

GMOOH · 08/03/2017 08:55

Didn't Kay speak to Ellen on the phone and said something along the lines of, I'll text you the entry code?

On that note, why was the entry code changed?

SoupDragon · 08/03/2017 08:59

All she has done is phone SS when she genuinely thought the baby was in danger.

And pretended to be a child on social media.
Taken and kept a scan picture.
Made little snide remarks to undermine Ellen's mental well being.

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 09:04

All she has done is phone SS when she genuinely thought the baby was in danger.

Don't believe that she thought the baby was in danger at all. She did it maliciously to get back at Ellen because of her snooping and what Paula saw as interference.

BakeOffBiscuits · 08/03/2017 09:08

Yes, I know she's done the other stuff, but I meant "serious" stuff. They other bits could be explained away somehow.

I'm just putting forward an alternative view.
I'm just hoping the programme isn't about Paula losing a child, so she's became a unhinged and wants to steal other peoples babies!!!!

Bluntness100 · 08/03/2017 09:26

I reckon that's exactly what it's about. I think "the replacement " is the baby, she's lost her own child and had targeted Ellen as she was pregnant and is ultimately after the baby.

RainbowDashian · 08/03/2017 09:52

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if I repeat something that's already been said. I really dislike Ellen and Paula. They are both really unlikeable characters but I'm enjoying it so far. I think possibly Kay may have thought David was having an affair with Ellen. Paula watches David and Ellen a lot so perhaps she is blaming Ellen for Kays death and Ellen blames Paula and so they are both paranoid about each other.
That being said there's something really odd about Paula, I reckon either her child was removed from her or the child is her husbands and she's desperate for a child of her own after possibly losing a baby.

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 10:11

I think Paula is sleeping with David too - she was skulking at the corner when Ellen left after visiting him. And Kay thought he was having an affair.

If Ellen's husband knew Paula professionally wouldn't he have said something? I know patient confidentiality and all that, but in that situation where your wife is stressed to high heaven by this woman who you KNOW to have been seriously mentally ill you'd give her the heads up, wouldn't you? Not the gory details but just enough info to let Ellen guess. Perhaps his mother is the one who knows Paula in a professional capacity.

Merrylegs · 08/03/2017 10:17

The whole thing is bonkers but most bonkers is the cavalier approach to the 'authorities':
Ellen - 'don't you think it's odd that my best mate calls me at night to meet her at a building site because she has something important to tell me and then kills herself in front of me knowing how shocking and potentially dangerous that would be as I'm heavily pregnant. She's my best mate btw.' Police - 'Nope, perfectly normal. Case closed'.'

Children's Services - 'We've had a photo sent of a baby crying in a car. Just a baby. In a car seat. That's the whole picture. Let's send two (two!) social workers without delay to grill the mum and put her 'on probation'.

Bonkers the lot of them.

Whywaitfortomorrow · 08/03/2017 10:23

I am totally confused...everyone looks very similar to everyone else. Ellen/Paula, Ian/Kieran, Kay Gillies looked similar to Ian's mother, maybe both being mother figures for Ellen since her mother passed away ? Maybe Ellen and Paula are actually one person, we are seeing both leading separate lives now but will all come together as one in the last episode, and one being in the other's head? Hence that weird ending last night. Almost like talking into a mirror and talking to yourself.

Maybe that's why Georgia asked Ellen to leave her alone, as Ellen has already been harrassing her but Ellen can't acknowledge/remember.

Loving this, looking forward to next week.

Merrylegs · 08/03/2017 10:28

Yes I thought Ian's mother was Kay - I thought it was a flashback when she first appeared. In contrast Ellen and her sister are completely, actually remarkably different - one small and dark, one tall and fair. Are they meant to be related or did I miss something?

MyHairNeedsASnip · 08/03/2017 10:42

whywait they do! Is the blonde sister the same person who works at the office or do they look the same too? I'm easily confused.

missyB1 · 08/03/2017 10:44

Merrylegs Im glad i'm not the only one that thought the Police would never be so quick to call it suicide and not bother with any investigations! And i highly doubt SS would have made it so official about a baby being in the car alone for a few minutes whilst mum was close by - not that I'm advocating that!

MrsJayy · 08/03/2017 10:52

It is all so tense ellen chatting to a child (who does that) paula replying as said child . The husband of ellen telling her what to say when Ss come round the final conversation had me a bit sweaty. Dh thinks Caris is paulas husbands child but not hers and Georgia is the mum. It is 1 of those dramas that drives you nuts you just want answers,

Riversleep · 08/03/2017 10:54

why wait that's brilliant! I think you have it Grin

Whywaitfortomorrow · 08/03/2017 10:56

So according to www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/the-replacement/characters - now have added Vernon/David, Ruth (office manager)/Rianne (Ellen sister) to doppelganger mix.

MrsJayy · 08/03/2017 11:00

whywait that is all a bit fight club however you might be right,
