WeeM I can't figure out where Ellen's flat is as it's so modern, I was actually starting to think it was in Edinburgh. It could be Dowanhill, there are lots of lanes there but not sure. Paula's house looks like it might be the Southside somewhere? ? Obviously recognise Merchant city, where the architects office is. Outside of Kay's house was Hyndland I think Grin

Summerof85 · 07/03/2017 23:17

X post Tinfoil and Deux !! Yes Deux, I thought of the Hand that Rocks the cradle too. Paula could be Rebecca de Mornay!

BlueDaBaDee · 07/03/2017 23:19

Definitely both unhinged. I think the daughter being in care is a good theory. Can't wait for next week!

Summerof85 · 07/03/2017 23:20

Also x post blue!

Riversleep · 07/03/2017 23:21

Yes I said to my DH that the baby should have been feet to bottom of cot etc but I thought it was all part of her not bonding. Also surely a bf baby should be in the same room. I don't know what to make of them. I was all team Ellen last week but now I'm not so sure. I think she's right still and Paula is hiding lots of things, but that she is also using it as an excuse to not spend time with the baby because she's finding it hard to bond. I thought Carys was dead, but why would the husband not just say that instead of going along with the whole charade?

LeBlonde · 07/03/2017 23:22

Ellen's place is a mews house in Park Terrace Lane, behind Park Circus. I saw them filming there last year.

Riversleep · 07/03/2017 23:26

Naveen Choudhary is the actor who plays Paula's husband. He's Pakistani/ English I think. The child Paula brought in was black/ White mixed. The child on the social media account had the same colouring as my kids, who are Indian/White mixed. So definitely not the same child.

SoupDragon · 07/03/2017 23:28

In the first episode, wasn't there a shot of Paula sitting in a room in her house just staring out of the window? I wondered what was wrong with her then.

I'm enjoying this although I had to watch the baby in the car bit through my fingers - I thought Paula was going to steal Leah!

Missanneshirley · 07/03/2017 23:28

I think ellen''s flat is in that wee lane that runs off woodlands road just after st George's cross...don't know it's name tho

Missushb · 07/03/2017 23:28

Interesting article about the locations

Missanneshirley · 07/03/2017 23:30

Woodside terrace lane ! Just had to look it up. If you are heading west along woodlands road you turn down left to it just at that garage that sells the classic cars

Noregretsatall · 07/03/2017 23:33

Very creepy....echoes of Hand that Rocks the Cradle.

Deux · 07/03/2017 23:34

And what why was a 10 year old child on social media. Tsk!

Optimist1 · 07/03/2017 23:37

I'm still team Ellen, but was horrified by the FB friending and leaving the baby in the car (although surely it would have helped her defence to say that she had sight of the car at all times?).

Riversleep · 07/03/2017 23:42

I thought it was Paula running the social media account pretending it was Carys?

Sinkingfeeling · 07/03/2017 23:46

The scene at the end of episdoe 1 with Paula sitting on a bed and staring out the window - the duvet cover on the bed looked like a girl's

I think that 'the replacement' is not Paula replacing Ellen at work, but Ellen's baby replacing Paula's own child ...

Poppytime · 08/03/2017 06:20

Just watched second episode - wasn't Paula worried Ellen would say something about the Facebook messages to 'Caria' when she brought her into the office and Caris would be like 'what messages?'. TBH I thought it was the same child as Facebook photo but maybe not - agree seems unlikely to be her child though and reckon she has definitely lost a child or had one put into care.

Ellen really annoyed me too with the newborn stuff - different room at 4 weeks (ok I guess some people do that), lowest setting on cot, blanket, pillow! Leaving the baby in the car was really stressful and her general gallivanting about looking glam - I was definitely in the Bon Marche category hah! Will still watch the next episode though!

Maybe Paula's husband doesn't say anything because it might set her off/she has some hold over him...am sure all will be revealed

NormaSmuff · 08/03/2017 06:26

last night's was more exciting.

NormaSmuff · 08/03/2017 06:27

I too was team Ellen but now not so sure.

The80sweregreat · 08/03/2017 06:48

This episode was totally bonkers - i can imagine the idea of having your baby at work with you feeding away whilst you work might appeal to a lot of women but is it really workable? I remember Addison lee taxis doing a similar thing as a trial once with toddlers coming in with their parents - that didnt seem to go that well either ( that was for a documentry on them trying to be a bit more progressive and the problems of child care)
Why did Ellen's hubby leave them alone together when he knows she has had mental health problems in the past and he knows her obsession with Paula and Kay's death? I , too, was concerned for Leah in the car - what was she thinking? however, i will watch next week to see what happens - the fact that the place where Georgia worked shut down makes me now believe that Paula is the bad one in all this. Probably wrong though!

TinfoilHattie · 08/03/2017 07:21

Theory. Paula stated in the first episode that she hasn't worked properly for 10 years since having her child, she has just done small projects and freelanced. I reckon either her child died, was taken into case or she had some sort of psychosis or breakdown and never recovered fully.

She worked at the company which is now defunct as maternity cover for Georgia a few year ago - Georgia not Caris's mum, but Paula's previous "victim" - she covered Georgia's own maternity leave and ruined her life and career. Now attempting to do the same to Ellen.

DevilsDumplings · 08/03/2017 07:25

I'm loving the Replacement Grin

I think Ellen's husband also treated Paula. The years she alleges she spent child rearing were probably spent as a psychiatric patient. Probably connected to post partum psychosis/loss/separation.

I don't think Paula has a child or not one in her custody anyway. I think the 10 year old is probably a step child or neice.

Georgia has me a bit stumped. Could also be a past psychiatric patient, ex work colleague, ex of Ellen's or Kay's husband.

Kay's husband is definitely dodgy as is Ellen's husband. Kay stumbled onto something amis and that's why she ended up dead.

Roll on next weeks episode!!

chicaguapa · 08/03/2017 07:28

Paula's 'problem' with Ellen seems to be about babies and motherhood. Quite a lot has been made of Ellen's lack of maternal feelings so I'm sure this is relevant.

I think Carys is dead. I'm not sure when she died though, but her death has obviously caused some mental health issues in Paula which her husband doesn't know how to deal with. And Paula won't accept it so pretends she lived. And she's angry with Ellen for not appreciating her baby and jealous that she has one when she didn't really want one.

The same was said about Kay when she said she didn't want children and David was happy with this. So I think Kay's death was an accident and she wasn't murdered by Paula. But Paula had been dripping poison into her ears too about David not having any children and Kay thought he was having an affair with Paula, so overall was pretty upset and that was probably why she was on the roof. I don't think she meant to fall through the skylight though and just slipped.

I don't know about Georgia though. There's obviously a backstory about the other architects and that could have something to do with Kay's call to Ellen before she died.

Optimist1 · 08/03/2017 07:29

I like your theory, Tinfoil, but if Paula ruined Georgia's life surely Georgia wouldn't have been willing to corroborate Paula's report to the police/SS about Ellen leaving Leah in the car?

SoupDragon · 08/03/2017 07:31

If Georgia was a previous victim, why would she listen to what Paula said when she called to warn her about what Ellen wanted?

There are enough things that don't make sense yet to make it interesting.

The errors in baby care don't bother me particularly as I wonder if some are to do with setting up camera shots - e.g. If thenursery room isn't big, they might not be able to show the baby at the foot of the cot and fit Ellen into shot. I did laugh to myself about the ease with which she bent over the cot having just had a c-section though, alth Ugh I think she might have given a half hearted wince :)

I love that they are showing her breastfeeding though - really unusual for a TV show especially with a working mother.
