Anyone else watching this chilling drama based on a Len Deighton novel ? The Germans won the Battle of Britain and now occupy Britain.
Includes quite a bit of shagging too, so I am told.

OP posts:

Huth reminds me of David Walliams.

eddiemairswife · 27/02/2017 14:24

I think I am going to watch both episodes again to fathom out who some of the characters are. Part of the problem is that a lot of the cast are unfamiliar, so I can't remember who's who. That's the result of watching too many Midsomer Murders on ITV3. There, the actors are as familiar close relatives.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 27/02/2017 20:56

His voice sounds like my DC doing an impersonation of an adult 😂

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 27/02/2017 20:59

It's difficult to work out the characters because it's always dark and because of the bloody hats they all seem to be wearing.

PageStillNotFound404 · 27/02/2017 23:00

I found last night's episode slower than last week's. Or at least, I expect week 1 of a multiparter to be slow because it's setting everything up, starting to dangle the threads etc. But the pacing seemed a bit off last night...sort of "nothing much, nothing much, muttering, brooding, nothing much, more brooding, more muttering, having a shag, more muttering, OH NOES NOT POOR ANEURIN, muttering, punch the Nazi, extra broody brooding, tune in next week".

CoolCarrie · 28/02/2017 06:04

I am sure Sam Riley didn't sound like that as Ian Curtis! Not nice on the ears at all.

daimbardiva · 28/02/2017 15:50

Not sure what I make of this so far. V stylish but yes v mumbly. I found his first encounter w Kate Bosworth's character almost funny - like a piss take of film noir.

I also find his raspy voice incongruous - also I think he looks too young for the part he's playing. I thought he was brilliant as Ian Curtis in control though.

Will keep watching - it's an interesting premise and from comments up thread looks set to improve.

It is fascinating to think of the position Archer's character is in..,

eddiemairswife · 05/03/2017 12:44

Looking forward to tonight's episode. I re-watched the first two episodes yesterday and am much clearer about who's who, and what has happened so far.

specialsubject · 05/03/2017 21:13

Probably given up due to incomprehensible sound. Yes, we have a sound bar and decent hearing. Have tried subtitles but too fast - and I read extremely quickly.

Not impressed.

DorothyL · 05/03/2017 22:00

Why did the scene at the cemetery happen twice? I'm so confused!!

CoolCarrie · 05/03/2017 22:09

I noticed that as well, I thought someone had put the wrong reel in!

Clawdy · 05/03/2017 22:15

Think they showed it, then did a scene change headed "Two days earlier. .." and then most of the episode was supposed to be flashback. It was a bit pointless and confusing.

eddiemairswife · 05/03/2017 22:19

How on earth can you say the subtitles are too fast? I managed to read them at the same time as eating my dinner/tea/supper (take your pick) and preventing the cat from helping herself. Perhaps you don't read as fast as you think.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 05/03/2017 22:19

Didn't see the 'two days earlier' bit, but even with it, it's a bit pointless!

YES, David Walliams and Huth are clearly related.

rollonthesummer · 05/03/2017 22:24

I agree!

fussychica · 06/03/2017 09:10

Think the repeat scene was a mistake rather than a flashback as the first time it was shown the spoken German was without subtitles.
I have found the sound better since episode 2 but put on the subtitles anyway. No problem with keeping up but maybe that's years of watching foreign films and tvSmile

Clawdy · 06/03/2017 09:54

Yes, the German subtitles bit was odd, but there's nothing online this morning about a mistake.

specialsubject · 06/03/2017 12:05

Oops, that's me told. Normally if I watched something subtitled I am laughing at any jokes well before anyone else, so it did indeed surprise me that I was struggling with these.

I must be thick, I'm on mn where it is unfeminine to be anything else.

slalomsuki · 13/03/2017 09:03

Everybody stopped watching this now?

I've continued with it an am actually enjoying it and looking forward to next week. Bit lost at times who each of the Germans are and who they belong to(SS, Nazi etc) but just go with it.

Clawdy · 13/03/2017 09:19

Still watching here. Getting a bit confused at times, though, and we always have the subtitles on! Have suspected the American woman is dodgy from the start but I'm probably wrong.

mydogmymate · 13/03/2017 09:36

I've found it really hard to follow the story & now I'm bored with it. I gave up halfway through episode 2. It's a shame because I normally love this sort of thing Confused

CoolCarrie · 13/03/2017 13:19

Too dark, and Sam Riley's voice is soo bloody irritating. Thank goodness next week is the last one. Roll on Line Of Duty 4!

rollonthesummer · 13/03/2017 14:52

I actually think Sam Riley's voice is quite sexy Grin!!

PageNowFoundFileUnderSpartacus · 13/03/2017 14:57

I'm still watching but more out of completism than because I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I think the problem is that I'm not very engaged in the characters and up to now it hasn't felt completely believable that there's something huge at stake. Archer is too one-note, and while I appreciate that it may be deliberate direction to indicate how guarded he has to be with everyone, it's not really translating as with any depth or meaning. The only character that I find really interesting is Huth.

It's also slightly off-putting that one of the Germans - poss Kellermann? - looks exactly like Sam Kelly playing Captain Hans in 'Allo 'Allo.

Buck3t · 13/03/2017 15:00

It's slightly better than okay, but Man in the High Castle so far has been much better.
