The actor playing Preston has clearly tried for a generic American accent without putting much effort in. I'm fine with seeing 'Chelle flirting and shagging with 19 year olds but her with a 17 year old, who she used to teach, is pretty uncomfortable viewing. I can imagine the furore on here if the genders were reversed.

Preston clearly went to the same terrible yankee accent school as Vicky.

I'm not sure why he's into Mrs Fowlerson. There are plenty of gorgeous older ladies, but she doesn't have that spark.

If the genders were reversed it would still be him pursuing her, it always seems to be the man manipulating the poor, weak woman. It would've been interesting if Michelle had got drunk, called him & manipulated him into booking a flight on a parent's credit card. Showing the adult being remorseful would never happen if the adult was male. They reserve such storylines for the established baddies. They're trying to give Michelle a valid/exciting reason to be back but also want her to still be seen as a good person.

Yes, happy 32nd birthday. i remember the first episode and the sets looked smaller - Reg had died, Ethel was working in the Vic and there was a lot more racism too. The first episode was on i player a couple of years ago Ali and Sue were in it running the cafe. Ian was a whippet of a boy back then!

I agree that the age difference would be frowned upon a lot more than if it was a 17 year old girl and a much older man. I wonder if they have had any complaints about this? Michelle preferred older men normally!

yes, that was sad with Sue's baby. Dr legg was good and lofty was treated pretty shabbily by Michelle! poor thing. He is now a sports guru on the radio.
Debs and hubby actually worked away from the square, her hubby was one of the suspects for the 'who knocked up Michelle' story i think. He died in real life a few years ago.
Its funny that you sometimes never see the actors again once they leave - not always, but a lot of them became household names and then seemed to disappear.

i dont know - i dont remember too much outrage at the time over Michelle and Den but there wasnt any internet back then , just points of view on a sunday afternoon!
I am guessing there might have been, but i was only 20 then and working and wasnt as aware of the news and such like as now, it wasnt on 24 hours either.

I sort of get someone going for the 30 somethings, still a bit in common, not that old and , nowadays, with make up and hair products available everywhere they can look a lot younger too.
The fact its a teacher is creepy though - i assume the teacher had to leave mrsjayy? must have been some gossip at the time! it can sometimes work out - i was chatting to someone a while back and they said her dad was about 37 and the girl he took off with was 17 ( he waited till she became 18 till they could get married) and they are still together and very happy. She didnt have much to do with her dad and still doesnt however, tore the whole family apart and hers, but love conquered all. not teachers though!! Yes, agree. I have no problem with age gaps, and when Nuche was flirting with some random uni student in the Albert, it really didn't bother me. I don't look at a young hot guy with an older woman and think 'oh, why is he with her'

However, with your own pupils you have a duty of care. They are vulnerable (regardless of 'willing') and it is grooming. On top of that, Preston was a minor.

Back in 1985 when it all came out 16 year old 'Chelle had slept with Dirty Den, I don't recall any kind of fuss in the media. No internet then but even so, looking back it seems odd. I guess it was a different time then but agree it's different with a teacher and a pupil, even if the pupil is over the age of consent.

It's ironic that Nuchelle is a sex offender and is apparently getting off Scott free whilst Jay was entirely unwittingly guilty but lost friends, home, everything as a result.

Optimist, poor Jay. Hounded, told to leave his home, excluded from the vic. However, the others dont know yet that Preston is more than marks friend! Only Sharon knows about him and she didnt seem too concerned, was happy to leave Denny with her. She might not be happy if Preston is still around when they get back though. Who knows?

There is a candidate in the current French presidential elections who had an affair with his married teacher when he was 16. She was 40 and had a son the same age as him. His parents sent him away to a school in a different town to break up the relationship. He ended up marrying the woman when he was 30. I saw a recent picture of them at a political rally and they do look like mother and son. I find the whole thing very intriguing!

i nearly put my huge foot in it on holiday once with people i didnt know - the guy looked about 45 and she looked closer to 65! I nearly said something about 'your son..' but i didnt. She had been very ill with arthritis and other complications, so this may have made her look older than she was, but they didnt look like husband and wife either.
I really watch what i say now and i am so glad i didnt say anything to them that would have caused offence! you never know.
